Collingwood vs Geelong

vs

The 2011 AFL Grand Final will be Collingwood vs Geelong on Saturday, October 1 2011 at the MCG.

Collingwood and Geelong have been the two teams who have stood head and shoulders over their rivals in the 2011 AFL Premiership and will do battle in the grand final we had to have.

Collingwood finished first on the AFL ladder after 22 home and away rounds, but Geelong have beaten Collingwood twice in the 2011 AFL season.

The AFL Grand Final will be played in front of over 90,000 spectators, and broadcast on Channel Ten to an audience of over 2.5 million viewers.

Collingwood have played the 2011 AFL season as a pronounced favourite, but will start the grand final as $2.05 outsiders, while Geelong have had the momentum throughout the AFL Finals and will start as $1.80 favourites.

In the 2011 AFL Premiership, Geelong have won both matches against Collingwood, 8.17.65 to 9.8.62 in Round 8 and 22.17.149 to 8.5.53 in Round 24.

The 2011 AFL Grand Final is the first time Collingwood and Geelong have met in a grand final since 1952. Collingwood have played Geelong in four VFL/AFL Grand Finals, with Geelong winning on three occasions, while Collingwood has won only once.

Collingwood are no strangers to VFL/AFL Grand Finals, having played in 42 of them, winning 15, drawing 2 and losing 25, the most recent being the 2010 AFL Grand Final, beating St Kilda by 56 points. Geelong have played in 17 VFL/AFL Grand Finals, winning eight, the most most recent being in 2009 when they beat Geelong by 12 points.

Magpies show poison of succession planning

by johnhunt92 - April 17th 2012 @ 1:02am

Collingwood is at war with itself following its thumping at the hands of Carlton. What to do with the twos?

by Vince Rugari - January 24th 2012 @ 5:08am

The gap between rich and poor in the AFL has never been greater. In 2011, the chasm in quality and resources between the powerhouses and the cellar-dwellers was a massive talking point. It could widen in 2012. Collingwood and Geelong were the premier teams last year – both in a good position off the field, [...]

AFL financial reports highlight wealth divide

by The_Wookie - January 13th 2012 @ 6:40am

Its finance reporting season for AFL clubs and the annual reports are in for all but St Kilda, and so we gain an excellent snap shot of the current economic climate amongst Victorian clubs. We can’t produce the same across non-Victorian clubs due to the way those clubs are operated. Adelaide, Port and Brisbane (and [...]

Calm down Eddie, it’s just business

“If they (Greater Western Sydney) go after Scott Pendlebury, I will declare war on Greater Western Sydney.” The fighting words were delivered via Triple M’s speakers by the one and only, Eddie McGuire. The Collingwood President went further saying: “I will steal every one of their good players for the rest of my life.” Is [...]
