Adelaide Crows
One of two AFL teams based in South Australia, the Adelaide Crows entered the AFL Premiership in 1991 and won their first match against Hawthorn by 86 points. The Crows enjoyed terrific success in the late 90’s, winning back to back AFL flags in 1997 and 1998. Adelaide have since continued to be an AFL finals force despite an ageing list.

Having been a haphazard reader of The Roar over the last few years, I always presumed that my first published piece would be a cunning, searing and revolutionary work that the common man would not have the critical faculties to comprehend. I would show that I’m capable of thought in a manner not available to [...]

Since the advent of 16 teams in the AFL in 1995, every year bar two has seen a team rise from outside the eight to the top four. This year, who is it likely to be? With five new coaches at the helm this season (not including Kevin Sheedy at GWS), it is worth noting [...]

For a nation that prides itself on its sporting prowess and rich history, the one thing I’ve noticed is how poor, many sporting competitions are attended in this country. There is one exception however; the AFL. Now I know what you ‘leaguies’ are thinking: “Oh, just another GayFL wanker who likes starting code wars.” Believe [...]

News emerging that Essendon will cut ties with their Bendigo affiliate after season 2012 in order to enter its own reserves team, a la Collingwood and Geelong, seems to strengthen the argument for the same model to emerge in the SANFL. At the time of the Port Adelaide merger between the SANFL-based Magpies and the [...]

Fact: AFL clubs without a coach have a thing for Collingwood assistants and past players. Of the five vacancies for the top job created by clubs this season – Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, St Kilda and Fremantle – two have been taken by ex-Pies, one a player and one an assistant coach. And more could [...]

Fremantle have Ross Lyon. Melbourne have Mark Neeld. The Western Bulldogs have Brendan McCartney. Adelaide have Brenton Sanderson. For those keeping score at home, that’s four coaching appointments in the space of four days. It’s been an unbelievable few days. How bizarre it is that every single one of the coaches that led teams to [...]

After a season from hell, the Adelaide Crows must act tough until the end of the year – and so far, so good. Jack Gunston’s desire to leave the club and return home to Melbourne is understandable. Home sickness can be debilitating, and better he leave now then draw out the process and become an [...]

Each AFL club has a certain word or phrase that you can associate with them. With the season now entering finals time, I have attempted to link them all. Adelaide: Powerful with a whole state behind them. Struggling at present, but they will return. Brisbane: They are a rabble with a CEO who is scared [...]

“Wanna go to the footy at Adelaide Oval this Sunday?” read the text message from a friend last week. “I don’t give a shit about the two teams, but it’ll be good to see footy at the Oval,” it continued. “Then we can stay in the city for some pints” – the final drawcard. That [...]
