North Melbourne Kangaroos
Since the club was introduced to the AFL in 1869, the North Melbourne Kangaroos have become well known in Premiership circles for their ‘Shinboner’ spirit and its ability to win them games when their backs are up against the wall. The Kangaroos have won four AFL flags, with success coming in 1975 and 1977, then again in 1996 and 1999. With former Brisbane Lions hardman Brad Scott at the helm, North Melbourne will look to be a force in seasons ahead.

“To think that a club – because it has only 35,000 or 40,000 members should be relocated – is just not sniffing reality.” So said North Melbourne’s CEO Eugene Arocca this week in the latest attempt to reassure supporters the Kangaroos aren’t going anywhere (many have resigned themselves to this for some time now). I’m [...]

Focus all you like on the Gold Coast Suns, Greater Western Sydney Giants, Melbourne Storm and whoever else joins the NRL in its mooted expansion; the NRL and AFL have enough cash and invested interests to ensure they’ll survive and, eventually, flourish relative to their market, for they are too important to fail. It’s the [...]
