Great article Steven. You hit the nail on the head. What bothered me most about the hire of Moyes was the easy comparison people made to Alex’s first years at United i.e. rugged Scotsman coming from a smaller club that punched above it’s weight. IMO this was rubbish as the context was completely different. Discounting the fact that Fergie significantly overachieved at Aberdeen, the United of the mid-80’s was completely different to United in 2013. One was a serial underachiever with a drinking problem, the other a over a perennial champion with a huge mortgage. Apples and oranges.

Liverpool, leakage and a lack of self control

Great wrap up of the situation without any of my in-built bitterness or bias as a Man U fan. Well played Sir…and completely agree…from a neutrals perspective the demise of ManU has to be funnier.

Liverpool, leakage and a lack of self control

Completely agree Paul…very bitter and tawdry. In my defense it’s been a long while since we’ve had to deal with mid-table mediocrity. The transition is quite confronting.

Liverpool, leakage and a lack of self control

My therapist advised it’s best, for my own sanity, to bury the Moyes piece…like a dark part of history that didn’t really happen. Kind of like the Ricky Stuart years at Parra and Star Wars Episodes I, II and III

Liverpool, leakage and a lack of self control

Hey, hey, hey. When did a sports opinion site turn into a forum to debate the pros and cons of funding for the private education sector? We need to leave this up to the more learned minds of Abbott and Rudd to discuss…hang on…I leave it up to you guys.

Losing my religion at the schoolboy rugby

Ahhh…The Sheriff brings us crashing back down to Earth. As a reluctant tax payer I’d say I’d be (somewhat) happy to contribute to schoolboy rugby if it meant sustained and consistent success at the pro level. But considering the black hole that is the Wallabies at present, I’d rather see my tax dollars moved into other areas vital to the national interest, like Orica Green Edge or Neil Robertson

Losing my religion at the schoolboy rugby

Thinly veiled!!! I take offense to that. This had a thicker blanket of homo-eroticism draped over it than the beach volleyball scene in Top Gun

Losing my religion at the schoolboy rugby

Thanks Will. Great question re: why doesn’t this translate to the higher levels. I’m not sure if it’s coaching, or maybe just the uber-athleticism in the pros makes the running game redundant because the defenders are just to quick and strong. Either way this was the most enjoyable rugby game I’ve seen in an age.

Whilst I’m not enamoured by Moyes, I think he’s a solid enough manager to keep the ship afloat. I’m not too fussed that we haven’t made a ‘marquee’ signing. I think there’s enough quality across the squad to match it with Chelsea and City. In De Gea we have a superstar keeper whose only 21 and will continue to improve. He has future best keeper in the world tattooed on his forehead. RVP is one of the best strikers on the planet. The backline has amazing quality, and if Vidic stays fit, is without doubt the best defence in the competition. It all comes back to midfield. And to be honest I don’t think we need to go crazy. Personally I’d love to see Fellaini wearing the red. He’s not Cesc, Thiago etc. But he is a proven EPL performer. Very physical and combative, a knock on recent United teams. Knows Moyes. Can alternate between advanced midfield (and score goals) or play in his perferred rearguard position (which is where we need him most). Plus he’s only 25. Thrown him into the mix, and if Kagawa performs to his potential, I’m confident of a repeat.

2013/14 EPL season preview: Manchester United

Well spotted Swampy. Perhaps it’s because the noise from across the road is now just a low hum…or maybe I’m just sh#t scared that they’ll romp home so I’m in denial!

Three outstanding issues before the EPL kick off

I was thinking of Al Wasl from the UAE as the Dothraki, but I can’t argue with Julian Lennon! It is known

Sir Alex Ferguson, a dwarf and Mother of Dragons

Mourinho got bored and went elsewhere is one way to look at it. Mourinho got the Roman salute on the way out the door after a dip in form and lack of champions league success is another.

Agree that many sides, refs, maybe even the FA, are intimidated by SIR Alex…but you can also argue there’s no way Man City are better than Everton after getting smacked 2-0 a few weeks ago. Champions are built over a season, not over a single result. And no-one – regardless whether you like him or not – builds champions like SAF

Sir Alex Ferguson, a dwarf and Mother of Dragons

Hi Chris. Good call. My missus reckons I think I’m God’s gift to football without any knowledge of comedy…personally I think you’re both right

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

Ha ha. It’s good to be the king! How about being Everton? The story of a troubled, proud merseyside club looking to restore past glory and break the Manchester and London dominance in English football! Or has that been done before?

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

Wow…and here I thought some light hearted banter was allowed in sports fandom. I stand corrected. Absolutely no malice intended Michael. A thousand apologies to all of merseyside for any offence. As for the size of my brain…if it were a little larger I’d offer your advice in return and say if you don’t like the article on the website you’re on stop reading it. Maybe click on another link. But of course I don’t have the capacity to offer that sort of sage advice.

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

I’ve been criticised in the past (by my Scouse loving friends) that I only ever write about Man U. So I finally put something together to give a fair and balanced perspective on the English Premier League and I get rubbished. You just can’t win.

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

If Livo score as frequently as he does they’d be challenging for the title

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

Touche Michael. Perhaps I should have included the line about Rodgers self portrait or his love interest with Jonjo…hindsight’s a wonderful thing

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

Methinks the Liverpool faithful doth not appreciate my humour

Being Brendan Rodgers: Liverpool's EPL woes

That’s the highest compliment I could have been paid. And I didn’t even have to mention an incident with a holden fan and an excited cattle dog. I’ll save that one for next year!

Remembering Bathurst: Beers, boobs and burnouts

Love it Futbanous. I hope you don’t mind if I rip off some of those ideas…you’ve got some real pearlers in there. Don’t crack the sh#ts if you see some of those as headlines in the next few weeks

Jumping on the Sky Blue bandwagon

I’ve been on hiatus for a little while and thought a bit of satire might be acceptable now. I’ll keep chipping away though, and maybe sometime in the near future we can all get along and have a laugh!

Jumping on the Sky Blue bandwagon

LOL…So long as Kasey doesn’t give that sign to a four year old and take pics with his iPhone it’s all good

Jumping on the Sky Blue bandwagon

A bit of hyperbole about the TV coverage I know. Although some prime time free to air would be nice for those of us not fortunate enough to have pay TV. The violence part I sourced from a very credible sports news website called The Roar http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/08/22/a-league-bans-several-players-after-brawl/

Jumping on the Sky Blue bandwagon

I know I know…it’s not meant to be fair dinkum. Just to rile a few feathers. I’ve been taking the p#ss out of the Eels and the dog molesting, public urinating, salary cap rorting, league fraternity for years. No reason why I can’t take the mickey out of football as well.
