This isn’t a serious article is it?

Which sports are dying in Australia?

You’re starting to become my favourite contributor Mary, I can’t believe how far apart our views on everything are. I’ve never read an article of yours I agree with but heck, I can’t wait to read the next one!!!! The best part is, you aren’t even trying to stir the pot!!

New NRL ad is 'simply the best'

Let’s just make it nrl v super league?!? Bugger country off, there’s only 3 countries who really give a stuff anyway. State of origin can exclude the poms & kiwis & super league could do the locals v exiles thing but from there let’s just have the best 17 blokes in each comp meet up at the end of the season & prove which comp is better. England as a country doesn’t give a flying rats bottom about league. Nz has the all blacks, that’s all they care about & league is but 1 of 4 massive-ish ball sports in oz so only 25‰ of the population really cares about (or plays) league.
Nrl likes to call itself the best league comp in the world, let’s prove it. All the kiwis & aussies in the UK would have something to strive for instead of knowing they’re never a chance of representing oz again & the much maligned super league, a comp where old or stupid nrl players go to fester until the nrl takes them back, would have the opportunity to stick it up the nrl.

Blake Austin playing for England is a disgrace

The clubs are putrid in the UK, thank god the fans are so awesome!!! I understand why a little small inept club like Skolars or Whitehaven’s owners and management might have reservations about the new kids fast-track promotion (eg. Skolars have been treading water for 25 years achieving nothing but exactly the same results under exactly the same stewardship) but those crusty old men & women need to pull their heads out of their backsides and embrace change otherwise this great sport will be consumed by the all conquering soccer and events like NFL or NBA or MLB, all of which come over here & make the fan experience amazing.

Anyway, good on the Wolfpack, long may they shake up the game over here!!!!

Wolfpack win frosty promotion from Super League clubs

League’s dead over here mate, especially in London. Just enjoy watching Lachlan Coote carve it up, that’s all there is over here

Lessons that British rugby league never learn

Bloody brilliant!!!

Nice work Freddy, now bring on Game 3

Now Izzy won’t have Latu to play with in Heaven (when time eventually comes for them)

Tolu Latu officially stood down by Waratahs

I don’t disagree with you David but it’s quite hard to read an article where you bag a guy who is just trying to bring about a new concept for a sport, in light of your involvement in cricket in the 70s….

Agustin Pichot: Villain or visionary?

Good piece mate

Arthur ‘Pony’ Halloway: The original supercoach

I also reckon when you play test cricket you should open with your bowlers & let the batsmen bat last

Commiserations Steve, I know you’re a big Toronto fan & it’s definitely a shame that Toronto missed out this season as I’m sure they were going to spend big & bring some big names into Super League. That said London has to be in Super League & will hopefully attract some crowds again on the back of this. It’ll be tough on the London fans having to make Friday night away games up North but having Saints & Wigan etc coming down to visit, which will bring the fans of those clubs based in London to home games (hopefully in droves) & should make a decent atmosphere out in West London, maybe even the Hills Hoists lads will show to watch?!?
Just on the game for a moment, I thought that 1st try review nearly ruined the game; they spent far too long figuring out if it was offside &, if I was just a neutral sports fan watching a big league game on the off chance (as there’s not a lot else on Sunday nights on tv here in London for non-NFL fans), I would’ve probably switched over to Strictly such was the delay getting the call made. Another camera angle or 2 would’ve helped, as would someone in the box able to control the fast-forwards & rewinds slightly better (I actually thought it was a high shot on the fullback but they didn’t seem to fussed by all of that). To that end, I hold grave reservations about Trailfinders being up to scratch for Super League games but I’ll sure as heck be out there watching a few games next season, something I haven’t really bothered doing during their time in the Championship.
Very small ‘error’ in your article too, (despite my hatred of them) I think you mean Skolars when you refer to the League 1 team early on. But screw ’em, Skolars will battle harder than ever for crowds now the Broncs are back in with the big boys!!

Broncos seeking to buck a troubled history

Thoughts on Toronto buying a 25% stake in Skolars Steve??

Bitter divisions loom in British rugby league

My favourite part of the article is the photo & that thug Watmough applauding one of the worst hits seen on a footy field. That Manly team of the early/mid-2000’s were a bunch of lovely blokes….

For John Hopoate, a ten-year ban just isn't enough

I’ll go too mate but for the best value footy in London, you don’t need to look to a Broncos game (& certainly not a Skolars game hahahahahahaaha £15 for a ticket to friday night lights this week, as if?!?!), you need to get down & watch the Hills Hoists or the Silverbacks etc. Free entry, as good a level of play as Div 1 & a decent BBQ!!

I’ll be getting my Challenge Cup tickets via Groupon too, Cat 4 £50 tickets reduced to £15 definitely shows the perilous state that league is in this country.

Allez les Catalans!!!

English rugby league grapples at Wembley with the impact of expansion

Love the hoists, love the community work being done by the teams, hate Skolars, mild-disinterest in Broncos & a massive man-crush on Benny Barba. But basically I just love rugby league & want it do well.
Challenge Cup day is alright if you know it’s on……
Just calling it how I see it Cathar.
Hopefully see you pitch-side somewhere in London soon!!

A rugby league postcard from the edge

I’m not a code-warrer mate – I played union my whole life, love league, now ‘play’ aussie rules in London (for the social side of things mainly) as well as staunchly attend as many Chelsea games as I can.

I’m just commenting on the dire state of rugby league in not just London, but out in the wider UK. I say this having briefly worked for a London-based league team, albeit one most people will have never have heard of!!
Amateur rugby league in London is going alright I guess, the Hills Hoists (all aussies basically), Silverbacks & Brixton Bulls try their best & I guess the Broncos & Skolars are out in the community using their limited resources but even blind Freddy Fittler can see the sport struggles over here, no matter how rose-coloured your specs from specsavers are.

Come on down to Clapham Common on Saturday & watch the Demons mens Premiership team, containing 6 UK players & 6 Rest of World players (supplementing the rest of the team of Aussies) & save yourself from having to go out to Ealing or (heaven forbid!!) stab-central Wood Green to watch a fairly dire level of league for somewhere between £15 – £25.

& if not this weekend, you’re all invited to the Common on August 11 when we host the Grand Final; a better day of amateur sport world-wide you’d be hard pressed to find 😉

A rugby league postcard from the edge

Great idea about the ‘shit’ Pan-Europe comp Steve, I like it a lot.
RL really is in the doldrums in the UK besides the like of the top 6 teams in Super League,

Being ‘actively’ involved in Aussie Rules over here I’ve got to commend the AFL for the attempts they make at building the game in foreign markets – eg the Champions League in Amsterdam last month where the winners of all the domestic comps in Europe got to face off to be champs of Europe. RL on the other hand just doesn’t seem to give a stuff over here (in my London-centric head at least), the early stages of the Challenge Cup are pitiful & 124-0/144-0 speaks for itself!!

The invite is always open for you to pop down to Clapham Common Steve (home of Wandsworth Demons, your local UK team). Come down & watch the thriving London Aussie Rules comp which comprises of 3 men’s divisions & 2 ladies’ – still amateur but way more professional than League 1 RL in/around London 😉

Looking forward to the ‘Ladies Who Don’t Take Much Interest In The Commonwealth Games’ to form on the back of this article & your faux-interest in the Games.

Any other female athletes besides Sally doing track &/or field? Who knew Australia was any good at lawn-bowls?

Tell me your thoughts on the crowd sizes Mary, that’s usually a band-wagon you like to jump on…..

How to avoid the 'Summer of Dog-House', an amateur guide

I’m Aussie. Born & bred in Oz for 32 years. I now live in London and will do so for a while longer. I even have a British Passport. I’ll never ever support the Poms (unless they are playing the stinking Saffas). I would never dream of turning my back on the Wallabies even if I never went home again.
Then again, both my parents were born in England, got married in Canada & settled in Oz & they only support Aussie teams so I guess it’s how much you love where you are & how much you want to fit in or identify with the culture or locals. Kiwis in Sydney should be like Sydneysiders in their attitudes & lifestyles but they shouldn’t be forced to support the Wallabies (or worse, the Tahs!!!). Should a Queenslander who lives in Perth support the Force? You probably support an English soccer team – have you lived in West Brom or Watford?? Should we force chicks who only attend rugby games to perve on guys & don’t know the difference between a box kick & a box jellyfish to not come to games because they aren’t real supporters? No. People can do what they want & support who they want!! You should just be glad you live somewhere where you can discuss the game with opposition supporters, over here, you walk up the wrong street wearing an opposition colours (not even strip, just the colour!) & you’ll be set upon.
Ultimately we all hate the Poms & the Saffas, let’s all come together to work on that.

The grand slam: Don’t dream, it’s over

Apparently Kevin Pietersen was giving him stick about his strike rate!!! Kevin Bloody Skunk Head Pietersen!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bloke who changed allegiances so his nation hates him & then dogged his captain so his team hated him. What’s he even doing on Channel 9, he’s not Aussie, isn’t a Protea & we aren’t playing England?? Ahhh yes, Warney & Pup’s mate…. Channel 9 have lost the plot, let’s get the new selectors to chose a new commentary team too. Renshaw was brilliant & I hope he soaks up balls as our opener for the next 10 years. At least when he missed those balls, he didn’t get bopped in the head like that old bloke Voges (who I hope is ok). It’s the media giving their opinion instead of reporting – I don’t care who thinks what about Renshaw’s strike rate, I just want to hear the report that he was part of an Aussie win & I don’t want to hear that info coming from a squeaky voiced Pom with a Saffa accent who is universally hated

Problem with Renshaw's strike rate? You don't know Test cricket

That was bloody brilliant Spiro, a terrific reminder of why rugby is the greatest sport of all; why the RWC, despite some lop-sided games here & there, is such a great event; and how some sports & events go the extra step in engaging (in this case healing) the community. I cannot wait until next Friday for the tournament to start & look forward to reading the rest of this epic story when it’s released.
As always, good work Roar!!!
