I agree Stevo. I’ll just add that City might be in a position where they can afford to make a couple of poor decisions where they will still have those same resources as you mentioned to get it right, as silly as that sounds.

City Football Group’s dominance means fans must take the good with the bad

Do you think the Mariners’ defence can make a real game of it? There’s been some positive signs in both their h2h meetings this season

City Football Group’s dominance means fans must take the good with the bad

Draft picks do make competition even for certain sports, but I never said football should adopt it. No chance.

I take your point about the spending of Victory and WSW. As I mentioned though, it’s the resources City have and the spending they’ve done off the pitch that will keep them at the top for the foreseeable future

City Football Group’s dominance means fans must take the good with the bad

A reward for the Mariners after finishing 11 points behind City though.

Hope to see a great crowd, but to Grem’s point I would still like to see a floating GF

And that’s where this country getting saturated by EPL content is actually hurting the perception of the A-League

The rise of Jordan Bos is proof the A-League is working

Thanks Grem, good points you raise. I think it’s Melbourne City’s access to everything that might not be the best thing for the league. I get that they’re not invincible, failing to beat Adelaide this season and drawing against Mariners a few weeks ago. I take your point about poor decisions being made, but I still see City being at the top for the foreseeable future with the amount of resources at their disposal. As you mentioned though, Australians value the championship over the premiership which will be good for competition (even though I’ve stated previously that eventually we need to more away from finals)

Nice article you provided Stevo. Those types of salary cap implementations such as wage bills help to an extent, but using La Liga as an example, Barcelona and Real Madrid receive the majority of the TV rights deals earning almost €320 million combined. 50% of the league receive almost three times less than that figure. It’s still valuable money especially for the lower clubs, but again the discrepancy in today’s game is worrying.

The EPL not having any sort of salary cap tells the story. As it said, they don’t want to risk ruining their product – Hands down the best league in the world. The power of spending will only get worse in my opinion unless UEFA start to get more involved. Man City breached financial rules on more than 100 occasions, and with any real significant punishment looking less likely, that can’t be good for the game

I think unlike 2020, Denver are in a position where they don’t need to double-team either LeBron or AD. Defensively, the rotation on the floor during play has been great to watch and that’s all down to coach Malone

It’s not a bad line-up to have that’s for sure with the likes of Nabbout and Jamieson also alternatives. They’re a talented side obviously, but I was just thinking do they really have the depth that some assume they have? Every team in the league has kids to call upon which is expected given the salary cap situation, however, I think people just assume they are stacked with more depth than they actually have

Is Sydney peaking at just the right time to stifle the premiers?

I think Sydney needs to look at someone much younger than Young (excuse the pun).

If I were Sydney and the chance presented itself, I would look at bringing a player back such as Matt Jurman who’s currently with the Jets to replace Wilkinson.

Is Sydney peaking at just the right time to stifle the premiers?

Agreed. I added Wilkinson more for the experience he provides. It can never be underestimated in these types of games and yes, he’s presence won’t be a problem if the defence and mids around him are able to provide sufficient cover

Is Sydney peaking at just the right time to stifle the premiers?

Can’t argue with that xeno. I’m currently watching the NBA between the Nuggets-Suns and there’s been booing going on since the opening tip-off. It creates colour and atmosphere while most of all making it entertaining, which has not crossed any boundaries for me.

Soccer is on another planet in terms of hostile atmospheres, and again, it just adds to the spectacle.

Is it possible to find a right or wrong answer in the Buddy booing debate?

That last point you raise is a good one. There were suggestions thrown out there to clap opposing players to show them respect. When it’s all said and done it’s just a game, but in the heat of battle of course you want to win at all costs. Creating a hostile environment is a duty of the home crowd to make to help push their players over the line in my view

I fully get that. I’m just pointed out how fascinating the differences are between us and the rest of the world

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

I think it has the potential to really turn a lot of fans away if the AFL treat it the same as the dissent rule (they’ve since changed it), where if any word at all was said it would result in a 50m penalty.

If the AFL do want to stamp booing out of the game altogether, how would they do it? Clubs would eventually go broke after being fined for every game

Is it possible to find a right or wrong answer in the Buddy booing debate?

Good points. Do you think it’s a cultural thing where Australians want to show a certain amount of respect, whereas around other parts of the world they thrive on that sort of atmosphere and intimidation?

It’s your opinion and you’re rightfully entitled to it

I get where you’re coming from Cloak. I just feel as though the biggest tests are coming up for you guys to truly determine where you stand amongst the elite to get a real picture

You can only beat who is in front of you, but June will present Melbourne’s biggest test

So you’ve viewed booing as bullying your whole life watching sport? I agree that some instances can be excessive, but it’s funny how Australia and to narrow it down, The AFL, are the only ones who are ever involved in this sort of debate. Would this conversation be brought to light in any other part of the world?

They’re not just any average player Davico. Ginnivan’s personality and character rub some people the wrong way, and last year he wasn’t just an average player. JHF has received a lot of attention as the #1 pick since his trade from North. He’s the #1 pick for a reason…because he possesses a heap of talent. I never said that they have to be HOF legends. 99% of the time, fans boo certain players for a reason.

I don’t agree with your take that it’s been a struggle to secure Grand Final venues.

Perth were able to secure a GF at Optus Stadium (an AFL venue) in 2019. Melbourne City have been the best team in the competition for quite some time now, and they’ve had no issues hosting the past two GF’s at AAMI Park (a stadium also used by the Melbourne storm – offering very little competition)

Arguably the best GF took place at Adelaide Oval attracting 50,000.

So yes, you can point to financial reasons as to why the decision was made, but attaining venues was not an issue in the past

'Damage the game': Cove boycott is justifiable, but won’t make a difference if they go it alone

I didn’t suggest that there wasn’t any media attention at all regarding Ginnivan and Horne-Francis. Has there been more coverage of Buddy’s case in the past 24 hours? Absolutely. Those arguing that Buddy was booed because he’s a champion of the game is pretty accurate. As Matthew Lloyd mentioned last night, you don’t boo average players

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

If this is true, then WSW should hang their heads in shame. Swapping shirts at half-time and straight after full-time I don’t agree with after a loss as there’s a time and place for everything.

What Ninkovic did though is worthy of fans turning against him? Seriously?

Grow up Corica: Sydney FC coach in childish act towards Sky Blue legend Ninkovic

Derby games in particular should always be played with the highest levels of intensity and passion. I understand the heated rivalry and dislike for one another but when that final whistle blows, class and sportsmanship should be taking over.

Despite copping endless stick since arriving at WSW, Ninkovic demonstrated that perfectly, unlike Corica who worryingly is a manager of a professional club…
