106 IOC members voted yesterday to include rugby 7s into the Olympic programme for Rio 2016. With the lure of an Olympic gold medal and the desire to see Australia succeed in the spotlight of the Summer Games, the ARU and Australia’s governing league body should make the best players from both sports available.

My guess is that the IRB would have little to no interest in this issue. But you're right that some people in both codes would prefer league and union players to never meet on the field whlst they remain contracted to separate bodies. Nevertheless, it would be very popular with fans, and I can think of no reason why the players would not like the idea. And maybe, just maybe, enough forward thinking administrators, as well as sponsors and television executives, would come together to make it happpen.
