I reckon there are 34 year Sydney Swans members, plus those from South Melbourne who still follow their bloods, that respect those rubbish flags they were supposedly handed. Let me see, 2 flags in 83 years…..still less than Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong, North Melbourne, West Coast, Brisbane, the latter in less time. But yeah, kudos to the AFL and the successful leg up they have handed this club that has done so amazingly well from their assistance. Fair dinkum. What cloud are you on?

Swans' Mills takes out Rising Star award

Counts for three fifths of stuff all. You still haven’t answered the blokes question and your integrity is lowering by every second deflective post.

Swans' Mills takes out Rising Star award

Except that they have more members than last season……40,000+. Attendance might be down, but memberships are up?

We need to talk about footy in Queensland

I’ve given them lots of credit Daws, in other articles. They were good the Dogs.

I suppose there will be those that keep rolling out the 0-21 stat for the Eagles…..bit hard to break it against a side that is not from the top 8 though…….

Key talking points from AFL Round 5

I did say a “Stronger team would not let them get close”. Your boys let us get within 3 points. A stronger team would have won that game by 10 goals plus. The Bulldogs gave up the lead. The Bombers gave away the lead and the win. I’m simply saying, that stronger team we have not seen yet.

All crook with the flu? I’ve heard Ross you this one a few times.

Key talking points from AFL Round 5

Rick, I’m of the belief that there probably is depth pushing the selectors but not necessarily across all comers. Rucks and defence, definitely not.

But guys like McGlynn and Cunningham were walk up starters last season. Cunningham gets a gurnsey this week due to the late withdrawal of Reid. Goodes comes in at the expense of McGlynn but was formerly kept out by Towers. Heeney is keeping anyone of these guys out.

If one of Richards or Grundy were to go down around now, then they get desperate. Reid being injured means they are missing that tall defender and it comes down to the young shoulders of Rohan. There simply isn’t anyone else.

I agree with what you are saying but I probably wouldn’t cast “Depth” as the problem and look more specifically at depth of defense under current circumstances.

Sorry to make a Bulldogs story about the Swans…..

How good were the Dogs!!

Bulldogs emerge as the team to watch in 2015

It isn’t panic stations. You are probably turning a lot of dials, swearing a lot and those sorts of things. You never want to lose one of those games that are locked away when you are trying to finish top two and make amends for last season.

You certainly don’t want to lose an away game to the Dees.

I recall the round 17 match in 2010 where they kicked 8 in the first qtr and left the Swans in their wake. I still remember the text message from my devoted Dees supporting brother ….”WOWEEEE”. They followed that up with another 8 in the third.

A bloke by the name Colin Sylvia had 28 touches and another bloke name Brad Green kicked 5. A young bloke in name Jordie McKenzie, in his second season, made 12 tackles.

The Brownlow went to Sylvia, Davey, and Frawley. None of them are there anymore, nor a Green and Bruce who both had a day out.

But they have been replaced with a rejuvenated line up. Howe, Lumumba, Vince, Cross, Garlett and Hogan.

I was talking upsets last week, thinking the Demons could bring about the upset of the round.

I’ve seen it happen to the Swans before, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened again.

Swans won't panic, says McVeigh

Here is my very short summary.

Malthouse needs to go…..now. Forget records, forget history, forget experience, forget Nisbitts comments about him…..he is not good for the Carlton football club.

A win is a win, but a 9 point win over a shocking Richmond outfit is not a season defining moment for the Cats. There are two challenging games to come.

Turnovers cost the Swans. They stayed in it, because they are a great side, but a stronger team won’t let them get that close. Who that stronger team is, we haven’t seen it yet, as the Swans have been able to claw back and lead, or go desperately close.

If there is some way the AFL could reconstruct the draw so the Lions and Gold Coast play each other each week, this might be the best chances they each have of winning a game this year.

The Hawks turned it up against North but maybe crossed the line just a tad. Time on the sidelines for Hodge and Lewis is a certainty, how long will be determined by this new system.

The Eagles showed why we shouldn’t get to excited about the Giants just yet. And I would expect a Hawks side, even without Hodge and Lewis, we do just the same.

Freo were simply too good.

You want to beat a bottom side by more than two points, if you are the real deal. In my opinion, the Bombers are not the real deal.

Port have the edge on the Crows.

And for me, 7 out of 9 isn’t bad.

Key talking points from AFL Round 5

Sydney’s fragmenting defence.

Smith held Walters, he didn’t hit the scoreboard. He’ll account for for which ever small they put him on, probably Dal. Tabener kicked one, Ted or Reg will easily hold Boyd. The other will take Stringer. Reid was played into form, he’ll float back and cause too many problems.

Buddy and Tippett could kick 10 between them, and Goodes will cameo in his return match.

2015 AFL season: Round 5 preview

The Cats are in strife. I eluded to the fact in an article just yesterday. Although it was more a comical look at the recent run of outrageous calls being made, there was some weight to it.

Their start has been tough. Hawks and then Freo, but you would expect a side that was still a finals hopeful to perform better against the sides they will inevitably meet again in September. I suppose you can include North in the mix but they are actually a good notch under the big 4.

To only just topple the Gold Coast, who are looking like only winning 3-4 games for the year was the shock. With Richmond, Collingwood and Sydney to come, they could very well be 1 and 6.

2015 AFL season: Round 5 preview

I believe Goodes is playing on because with the removal of COLA the Swans need to absorb a good portion of his salary (yes I know he is on the Vets list) to ease some of the back end pain of the back ended Tippet and Buddy deals. The longer they can draw him out the better.

Just a thought.

It’s not always about the player. Much could also be said about why O’Keefe went on one season longer. And why Malceski wasn’t offered a deal.

Goodes must accept his role has changed

I am your opposite moose, Swans Fan, soft spot for the Cats. Been yelling at the screen a lot lately, hard to watch the Cats.

I try and watch every game each week, sometimes I am up late playing catch up until Monday or Tuesday. It certainly helps to not just have a one eyed view of your own side and be able to join in constructively in discussions about other sides.

Why can't we support more than one AFL team?

My grandfather was a Cats fan, he was also mad about the Wrestling. I looked up to him and so I always had a soft spot for the Cats. Still do. And I love the WWE, its good fun.

I’ve followed the Swans since 82. I bleed red and white, but there’s this strange navy tinge to it.

I’ve copped it from my mates since I was kid.

It’s been a good decade 😉

Why can't we support more than one AFL team?

We normally used the whole field. Everyone formed an oval shape, a short kick apart, one footy to begin with, then introduced one or two more. Someone started off with the ball, everyone had to be on the jog/or on the move, the circle/oval moved clockwise and you moved the ball by hand or foot through the circle. Back in the day we would do it until the coach was blue in the face. Sometimes the only drill we did all night!

It morphed into finishing with a goal; maybe switching direction; a kick out situation from full back….but god forbid anyone went straight through the corridor or tried to be creative.

It was all about encouraging people to follow up their handy work, keep on the move, get your hands on the ball lots, work the angles….that sort of thing.

Pagan’s Paddock has become Pagan’s Graveyard

Collingwood – they are second getting the ball inside 50m and winning the most contested ball. Carlton don’t have a forward line, Collingwood do.

Richmond – The Cats are gone. To be the lowest ranked contested possession side in the comp is poor. As bad as Richmond were last week, they’ll bounce back stronger than the Cats.

Sydney – History to repeat itself, although the margin won’t be as bad. The Swans have kicked 20 plus goals in the last 4 outings. The Dogs haven’t got the defense or midfield to handle the bigger Swans bodies.

Gold Coast – think I might mow the lawns.

North Melbourne – Petrie, Brown and Waite will give Schoenmakers and Gibson hell. The Hawks look shakey without their key defenders.

West Coast – the Giants are better than last time in so it won’t be a blow out. Looking forward to the ruck contest.

Melbourne – tipping an upset. Do I think it will happen….no. But I like tipping upsets and this is one I think is a possibility simply because stranger things have happened. I hope Vince keeps up his in your face tagging on Fyfe, that’ll be a great battle.

Essendon – as one Roarer wrote in a different article, St Kilda are just ordinary.

Port Adelaide – shame that the Crows lost last week to take just a little of the shine of what should be a massive Showdown.I think Port showed glimpses of their 2014 form last week and that form got them to a Prelim. Adelaide’s form saw them crushed by a bottom eight side.

Move on Don

Pav scores the sealer as Freo beat Swans

I may be wrong, but I think Eade introduced the Flood to try and negate Pagans Paddock. Although, “The Flood” was the label everyone else put on it. We have also seen the introduction of zones at kick outs. This may have come from Basketball. And has manifested itself it other forms of zones and presses.

We are now seeing more sides playing corridor footy. Swings and Roundabouts.

Do they still do circle work at training? Gees I hated that drill.

Pagan’s Paddock has become Pagan’s Graveyard

I don’t buy in to the facebook follower stat. I’m a sports lover, I am a follower on facebook of Cricket Australia, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Swans and Geelong Cats, the V8 Supercars and Red Bull racing in general. But I am only a paid up member of the Swans.

Liking a page on facebook is very different to actually supporting the club. It’s more about having access to the updates for those particular people or organisations.

If there are 500,000 people who support the Broncos, I’ll eat my shoes.

I’m not sure that the current (round 4) success of these teams is necessarily anything to go by. The Lions have suffered some major injury set backs and the Gold Coasts million dollar draw card isn’t playing.

One side gets to turn their form around this week……unless it is a nil all draw.

Maybe this article is a bit premature?

The biggest loser after four rounds? Queensland

Brilliant.

sorry

Special.

A day in the life of Bruce McAvaney

Anyone can report a comment Don.

I was quite clear with you that I found your post unnecessary.

Move on.

Just how good are Fremantle in 2015?

I’ve got a life Don.

I assume you do to, go and live it.

Move on.

Pav scores the sealer as Freo beat Swans

It is very much my business because it is my post, and my part of the thread that you chose to comment on.

The fact that you can’t move on speak wonders.

Pav scores the sealer as Freo beat Swans

Good read Jay.

A couple of things. Norths inconsistencies will forever keep them outside the top 4. I’m loathe to write off the Hawks after the way they punished Sydney in last years GF, but I can’t see them steadying the ship in the same fashion as 2014, in terms of injuries.

I’d be more inclined to bring Hawks back to the field and throw a blanket over them and Sydney, Port and Freo (in that order) for premiership favouritism.

Your comments on West Coast are spot on. 0-20 against top sides tells a big story, no matter when it happened. They obviously couldn’t break the hoodoo against Freo……Hoodoo’s and curses do come to an end but footy psychology intrigues me. I wonder how mentally prepared they are when coming into the big games. There was obviously a disconnect for 11 goals to be kicked on them.

You used my name specifically in a comment to Powerbot. It is unecessary. The post has been removed.

As I said, stick to footy opinions.
