You’re right Brewski, the match averages are down by about 4000 a game because of GWS and Gold Coast, but I specifically didn’t mention averages because of that. I mentioned the TOTAL attendance, which should be up, even if only slightly, if all was well, because there are now more games played each season.
And I couldn’t agree more with you about the coaches – see my previous article http://www.theroar.com.au/2013/03/08/afl-coaches-rule-change-whinging-not-unrecognisable/

It could Yank Paul, but it wouldn’t explain the fact that despite there being an extra 21 matches every season, total attendance in 2012 was down by over 360,000 on the figures from 2010. The AFL should be very worried about this. Anyway, I thought the Australian economy was in reasonable shape.

Yes Dinny, the main hope is that the game gets better to watch. I agree that the tactics won’t be the same as they were in 2007, but let’s hope that a bit more space develops around the ball. Whatever happens, the sky isn’t going to fall in, as the coaches would have us believe.
AFL coaches' rule-change whinging not unrecognisable
Too true on both counts, dean and Floreat Pica!
Wait until a grand final is decided by this dreadful system after a five-minute hold-up to the game and inconclusive footage.
