They weren’t renowned, but they still had Steve Johnson kick 49 in 2007, 46 from Cam Mooney in 2009 and 52 from Podsiadly. Not to mention in all three years there was another goalkicker not far behind the club’s leading goal kicker.

Do you need a dominant forward to win a premiership?

It’s a weird situation with Thon. He’s 19 and apparently he graduated last year, but he stayed on to do a post-graduate year at high school (something that I’m surprised exists) so he could play together with his brother. The whole postgraduate stuff seems a little shifty and it’s pretty much going to come down to Thon’s camp convincing the NBA that he was in fact a graduating member of the 2015 class.

Is Thon making a mistake?

They have history of changing the 3 point line. They made it shorter in the 90s before quickly changing it back.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

Well first of all, the NBA already changed the rules once. In the past you could hack at any stage of the game but they then changed it so you couldn’t do it in the final two minutes. Hacking just isn’t in the spirit of the game and the NBA have already half admitted that. Want to know how you can exploit bad free throw shooters? Foul them when they take a shot! Heck, even if the rule does get changed you could just commit a reach in foul when they have the ball and send them to the line.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

I can’t even reply to that. If you think Dwight, Drummond and Jordan are talentless then I’m speechless.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

This is another great solution that’s been suggested. Would end the tactic immediately if fouling Dwight off the ball resulted James Harden going to the free throw line.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

Good point about the fatigue. I think coaches should definitely be implementing free throw shooting randomly throughout their practice sessions. Not only does it catch the player off guard instead of them being in a free throw shooting rhythm, which is similar to a game situation, but it also gets them practicing under fatigue.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

Dwight, Shaq, Drummond and Jordan are all incredibly talented big men who do a whole lot more than just dunk. You’re crazy if you don’t think anyone who is a poor free throw shooter in the NBA isn’t trying to improve.

It’s time to end the Hack-A-Shaq

It should also be mentioned that the NFL, NHL and NBA have FAR more teams, so of course the number of winners and participants will be slightly higher. Comparatively though, they are pretty much the same.

The AFL’s grand final 'problem'

For what it’s worth, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda saw some of the biggest increases in membership numbers and crowd attendance this season. If they keep going along the right path they’ll build incredibly strong fanbases.

The AFL’s grand final 'problem'

We’ve seen two three-peats in the last 15 years, yet we’ve still had almost the entire league make the grand final. No other league can say that.

The AFL’s grand final 'problem'

Totally agree that Rioli has been majorly overrated in the past. Betts is without a doubt a better forward than Rioli and Wingard is without a doubt a better overall player, but I don’t think either of them have the ability to turn a game as much as Rioli does. We also haven’t seen Rioli go missing this year, so hopefully this is the start of him being able to shake the overrated tag.

Cyril's sensational season Riolis on

In terms of consistency over their entire careers, I’d certainly take Wingard or Betts. Rioli seems to be moving in the right direction this year though, as you’d have be very harsh to say he’s only been a brilliant bit part player.

Cyril's sensational season Riolis on

That’s what makes me cautious when it comes to Collingwood. But when they have young guys like Seedsman standing up on a huge occassion like Anzac Day, it’s hard not to be excited about their future.

Overreacting to the first four rounds in the AFL

I’m interested to see what Collingwood will do as the season progresses. They’ve got some seriously good young talent who’ll hopefully get even better as they get more games into them this year.

Overreacting to the first four rounds in the AFL

The NFL Pro Bowl is arguably the worst. The players don’t look like they want to be anywhere near that.

NBA All-Star Weekend needs a revamp

Why? Because the All-Star Game has become incredibly boring to watch. Seeing Westbrook score a bunch of points with no one guarding him isn’t fun. Seeing LeBron finish an alley-oop for the Cavs in a competitive game with people defending is entertaining, seeing him finish an alley-oop with nobody around him even caring, isn’t. Heck, you can see it in some of the players that they think this exhibition game is a waste of time.

It hasn’t always been a game where both teams just drop a crazy amount of points. Over the past 6 or 7 years it’s slowly morphed into an offence only game.

NBA All-Star Weekend needs a revamp

In the past teams would actually try to play defence. Go back and watch the 2006 All-Star Game for evidence of this.

Personally I don’t mind having no-name guys competing in the dunk contest, as those no-name guys are usually the best dunkers.

NBA All-Star Weekend needs a revamp

There is little to no chance that the Lions use the franchise tag on Suh. They’d rather let him walk.

Forecasting the NFL's franchise tags

Emmanuel Mudiay is 18 and playing really well in China right now, I could see him being a franchise changing player for any of the teams that are in need of a new point guard.

In the NBA, sometimes losing is winning

I’d rather take someone like Cowan who consistently makes 30, over someone like Watson he consistently makes nothing.

Change needed before The Ashes

Milwaukee are just making up the numbers. They will stay 8th and will not win a single game against the Heat in the playoffs.

Don't take your eyes off Milwaukee

Also, WTF? “where Buddy Franklin is engaged in a wrestle with Taylor Walker.” In what universe does Taylor Walker play fullback?

Interchange cap will make for better spectacle

Worsfold will support any rule change as long his players are still getting cheap, high tackle, free kicks.

Interchange cap will make for better spectacle

Yeah, the AFL trying to speed up teh game but also slow it down is completely confusing. Which one do you want, Demetrio?
