Titans and Blues Fan with a great passion for NRL

yeah I’ve been a keen admirer of the Reynolds/Reynolds combo.

This Raiders one though I think will shine a fair bit as long as the team around them commits as much as they do. I have no doubt Blake Austin is Origin grade on his 2015 form, Sezer is the quiet achiever, but a level head could be what we need in 2016. That was Hodkinson’s job. Be the level headed driver.

Is Laurie Daley preparing to cook with Sticky halves?

exactly my point

NRL stars' threats show the game is a gerontocracy

yeah I rate the guy too! Hopefully he doesn’t spend his tenure at the Burleigh Bears and gets a good run on the pitch each week.

A strategy to save the Titans

you can’t blame Roberts? I think you can, he was on his arse a year and a half ago and the Titans threw him a lifeline. Then he just walks out with no repayment of faith?

mind you that was the 2nd time he was thrown out of a club.

What’s going to happen if this next club doesn’t work out in 12 months? that’ll be 4 clubs in a short career. says something about loyalty and the character he is.

A strategy to save the Titans

how many times have you seen a rejection develop into a release? It’s nearly all the time.

however, that makes 4 halves at the titans. Should make for some great competition within the group, Will they be possibly be moving Ash Taylor to Fullback?

A strategy to save the Titans

obviously not from the Gold Coast.

A strategy to save the Titans

Well it’s just broken out that Adam Reynolds requested a release from Souths to join the Titans.

maybe someone at head office read this article?

A strategy to save the Titans

what’s wrong with a sugar high while they develop local talent? At least it’ll get people to the games.

I think the back office is slowly being cleaned out, I know a lot of staff have moved on since 2010 and even immediately after David May quit a few heads we’re taken of the roster.

A strategy to save the Titans

@ferret, I know they are investing in local juniors which I am 100% behind them doing. My concern is that the club is just being used as a cornerstone for players to negotiate better contracts now, or a halfway hotel for players looking to revive their career.

I understand that now Annesley has come out and saying that they are not going to pay overs, which is a great move as this is now the 2nd time they have been made a pawn in a players financial gain. Annesley saying they wont pay overs now blocks anymore of this (hopefully)

but long term aside, what am I meant to do as a fan? just wait idly for another 5 years before we start becoming a serious contender? All other clubs reshufffle for immediate results or at least a decent shot at one.

As a fan, I don’t want to just sit idly, I want something to cheer about.

Yes, Bird nailed that statement, I’m pretty sure the manager of Roberts looked for a way out for more cash and found one.

A strategy to save the Titans

You mention the Tigers, but the Balmain-Wests have at least got a great history to be proud of.
I agree with the Searle saga being a complete mockery, although he was the real push behind getting the team started. I do have him to that for that, but it is like he created it and then took it for everything it was worth.

but the most important thing I can stress, is I’m sick of being the club that would never be taken seriously. All other clubs have some pride behind their team, but i fear the Titans are missing the mojo at the moment. they’re losing fans.

I’ll go down with the sinking ship. but I’m only going to bail so many buckets if they are drilling holes in the bottom at the brig end.

The Titans must rescue the James Roberts fiasco

Mate, there is no problem… I don’t know how 7-0 is any sort of problem. Inglis or Slater??? if that is a problem I’ll eat my own hat!!

Hey NSW, Queensland has State of Origin problems too

What Laurie says we should all stick with. He is an Origin legend and knows the game. We are all sideline critics. Laurie HAS to win this series. If he puts A.Reynolds in and he has a shit series just to prove us all right? I’d rather us ponder the fact and win the series of Laurie’s decision.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

Structured play is what I was referring too. Remove that and create combinations and adlib attack.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

Disagree. I think we have Elite players that can beat them. We just give QLD too much credit. Yes they are 7-0, but they are not unbeatable. Especially with NSW 2 home games. Melbourne was always a home game for 3 of those players you mentioned, so it was always pushing shit uphill versing QLD in Melbourne.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

His performance week to week is still top class. And his Test match appearance was awesome. He’ll step up, there is too much passion there in his heart not to.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

Are you saying that because of his 1 mistake in Game 2 (2012)? Because I think the fact that he made that mistake will make him a better player at origin level. Thurston & Cronk are the best kickers in the game, and even though Uate messed that take, 100% hand it to the QLD halves as that was perfectly in the middle of Stewart and Uate.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

100% agree EagleJack

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

Stewart has put his hand down for Origin due to injury. Jennings plays #3 on the left, same as B.Mozz and Jennings is the best at countering Hodges who is in amazing form. Reynolds needs more time, I love his ability, but if he is defending on the right edge it’s going to leave a massive hole.

Hoffman, I’d love to fit him in somewhere, I just don’t know where, as there are 4-5 back rowers that I couldn’t drop before him.

Farrah is an 80min player. even in origin. Gedley will be there to aleviate some pressure and farrah will move into first receiver on the left and pearce can float right giving us another attacking/kick option.

Back to Blue, don't try be Queensland

Yeah the editors messed it up (again) it was Aaron Woods, who the hell is Keith Woods Mr. Roar????. Gidley is still the best interchange player. He can slot into Hooker, the halves or any position on the backline. I still think Uate over Tafua, 20m out Uate just powers. Wade Graham & Mason I don’t think are up to the tast, Watmough is powering, I don’t see why he should miss out and I think Fensom should get a look in as 18th man.

Thank you so much for adding to this incredible narrative. Loved reading this article.

HOWZAT!: Kerry Packer vs David Lord and the World Series battle

If broadcasting goes to channel nine there is no chance you’ll get NRL on IPTV.

Is five years too long for the NRL internet rights?

I think the Ennis situation has a lot to do with his reputation. You look at Greg Bird and Paul Gallen for example. Used to be the Bash Brothers. (miss those days). But Gallen has acheived some respect but Bird still gets the whistle for far less that his opposing team because of his reputation. Mind you some are deserved. Still love the Birdman.

Remember the Penalty Count secret code name? “How is ‘Trent’ Going?”

Look, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. BUT my article tries to explain that our game would be better off without it. Especially at Junior level.

Hasler and co. setting a bad example for junior coaches

Agree with you wholeheartedly there. I think Bill was a good ref, but he is a terrible teacher/manager.

Hasler and co. setting a bad example for junior coaches

Always put forward excellent comments Baz, and I appreciate it!!!! 🙂

Just because they are the best performing team in attack and defense doesn’t mean they aren’t disciplined, they might be sacrificing a bit of discipline for this excellent attack and defense.

But I still think referees dud calls are the nature of the beast. As much as I just spit at the TV whenever Bill Harrigan comes on defending the stupid calls that were made over the round, I still don’t think it gives justification for them to get in front of the media and blame referees for lulls in performance or high penalty counts.

We were always taught to “Play too the whistle”.

In regards to the offside rule, when I played proper footy (I now play Rugby League Touch) we used to test out the Ref and touchies to see what we could get away with and then adapt to the refereeing just like how we had to adapt our defense if our game plan wasn’t working. That, in my mind, was clever coaching. Not blowing up at the referee because he was effecting our game plan.

Anyway, he may have a good point. BUT take it up with the commission. Don’t give it to the media!!!!

Hasler and co. setting a bad example for junior coaches

As you mentioned below The Barry, Referees are just going to say “We were right” and have the full support of Bill Harrigan come Tuesday.

But my point remains, I also played junior footy and the refs stuffed up all the time. But it didn’t result in my coach blowing up and every parent on the sideline attacking them.

The standard must be set at NRL level that doesn’t effect junior grass roots football. I don’t know the solution, but it doesn’t involve accusations of match fixing or tide turning by referees.
