A now masters sprinter / pole vaulter whose passion for athletics far outweighs his ability

What does it say about the sport of cycling when the three riders who Cadel says get the most “respect” from the peleton have all served suspensions for drugs…

Cadel Evans talks to The Roar: Great Ocean Road Race, Tour de France and more

What I want to know is;
What happens when a cyclist in a bike lane comes across a car in the process of turning left? On a strict interpretation of the Road Rules, both may have right of way and yet they both have to give way to each other!

Let's be careful out there, but learn some bloody road rules!

“Not since perhaps the days of high jumpers Vanessa Brown and Christine Stanton has Australia had two world class competitors in a field event.”

I asume you are talking about females and have forgotten about Joanna Stone and Louise McPaul?

Mickle shines for Australia as Mitchell Watt withdraws

Tim – Do you think that the reduction in doping over the last few years has / will lead to what we might consider to be more boring racing? Where people win the tour by not having a bad day as opposed to breaking off the front and gaining time.

It seems to me like there just isn’t the same chance of a single rider dominating a stage as in the past. No one seems to break away from the bunch until there is only 1 or 2 km to go where as my (perhaps romantic) memories of past races was of now proven dopers looking over their shoulder with 10km of climbing to go and just taking off.

Tour de France 2013: team leader special - part I

“Le Bron is not the offesnive weapon that Jordan was, more an all rounder.”

Were you aware that Jordan made the NBA All Defensive Team 9 times? But I agree that they are different players with different attributes. And the rest of your comment is spot on.

And rather than Usain Bolt v Carl Lewis I would say:
Carl Lewis v Ben Johnson
Carl Lewis v Mike Powel
Sebastian Coe v Steve Ovett

Flo Jo’s 100m world record is definitely wind assisted. The probably wind mark was about +5m/s.

A good (and very old) article about it is here:
http://people.brunel.ac.uk/~spstnpl/Publications/FlojoWR(Linthorne).pdf
And even the generally opinion free Wikipedia says it was wind aided.

If you have to cheat, why compete?

McCabe is only 22 and ran his PB this year. As far as I am aware he has not made senior Australian team before. Not bad to make the Olympic final and equal the Australian record with your first senior uniform!

Does this mean that if Dibaba does her double double tonight you will rank her as high as Bolt?

Well, time for me to eat humble pie and say that Steffensen ran a faster split than I expected him to and he totally justified his place in the team.

Should Steffensen even be in the 4x400m relay team?

5:55am AEST.

London 2012: Superstars Rudisha, Bolt and Eaton go for gold - Athletics Day 7

Did you also notice that the guy who he was critisizing (presumably Offereins as he ran the slowest split) came up to Steffensen during the interview and put his arm round Steffensen.

London 2012: Superstars Rudisha, Bolt and Eaton go for gold - Athletics Day 7

He does, but my 200m review was written before the semi finals of the 200m. Lemaitre did actually run his second fastest time ever in the race though. It more comes down to whether Spearmon can produce his for of 3 or 4 years ago. Spearmon has been out of sorts so far this year but at his best he is better than Lemaitre at his best.

Final will be on at 4am Saturday morning Australian EST. They have a days break between the qualifying and final.

London 2012: Australia looking for gold in Athletics on Day 2

You’re welcome Tim. And you weren’t even going to go to the track that day…

Yes, for the rest of my life I will be able to say “I saw a man run 9.58 seconds for the 100m”.

Is Bolt the greatest sprinter of all time?

It is not really Jessie Owens’ fault that his achievements were confined to a single Olympics. There was this thing called World War 2 that got in the way and he was accused of running for money and so was banned from amateur competition.
