Is it a pipe-dream? Yes, probably. He got an extended run during the last Ashes, and didn’t capitalise. But the thing I like about it is that he’s pursuing what he values- a bit like Jarryd Hayne. They’ve got a fair bit to lose (potential money/ fans/achievements in previous sport/format), but they’re doing it anyway. Good on them, and it sends a good message to kids also to follow your dreams.

Steve Smith 923 runs at 44.
As stated, this is why- Smith’s average is climbing, North’s (conversely) was heading South (pardon the pun). That and like SS said, a winning team doesn’t need to change as much.
