Fussball ist unser leben
Stop trying to defend him. I generally respect most of your comment but trying to defend Muscat is way out of line.
Kevin Muscat to announce retirement
It a pretty easy equation
no salary cap = professional league.
If salary cap goes so does the comp. It will become a semi professinal game like the old days.
But maybe thats not a bad thing a game for the fans!!!!
Now thats an interesting concept..
Memo David Gallop: it's time to Scrap the Cap
I think it some thing that can be tinkered with I agree that there are some great young player soming through but having player like Yorke, Fowler, Brioch, Hernandez, Cassio, Henrequi, Dadi have been great inclusions. It also brings up the level that has to be played. I can honestly say that the A- League is getting better and better in quality but this will only be shown by the results in the ACL. Actually player like Cassio, Seo ( Korean import for the Roar) have decided to become Australian citizens which is good if they can keep there involvement in football generally. But it is a damn shame to keep quality kids from stepping up and I would expect that in 10 year they might drop the imports to 3 or 2.
Forget imports, clubs should foster local talent
I think an FFA is worth a shot, in the UK the FA has been a great tradition. It wouldnt really get the crowds but it would be getting the interest at a local level. Part of the A-Leagues problem is converting participation into crowds. And this could be a good chance to get another rise in crowds.
But its always get great news coverage when a minnow tops a Premier league team and there is always one every year.
So I will be supporting my local team if the FFA cup occurs.
New football unites with old soccer for new Cup
Im no league fan but I think they missed out in 88 and 91.
But Im aware that a Brisbane punter put 100K on them to miss out on the finals and hes going to throw a big party.
Could Broncos miss finals for first time?
I was stoked they played so well …
They seemed to gel much better as a team and have a little more composure and discipline. They are far more creative and a less likely to have one route to attack.
Nicoles was the only blipp.
Brisbane Roar are the real deal
Well said,
You make alot of very valid and relevent points.
NRL entertainment should stretch further than cheerleaders
Fair point,
maybe a FFA cup with out the A- League teams to start with 16 places
3 x VIC
3 x NSW
2 x QLD
2 x SA
2 x WA
1 x TAS
1 x NZ
1 x Canberra
1 x NT or play off for the 4th NSW and VIC team
All in a hat pull first name pulled out get the home match.
winner go back in the hat and till the final 2.
final is a game warmer match prior to a A- League game
Winner get the promotion to the A -League.
The winner of the FFA cup get to play in the A- League, State League and automatic entry into next years FFA Cup
The A- League has one space only for a State League Team. You are subsided by the FFA and get money for a draw and a win nothing for a loss.
its an idea but it might under mine the A – League crowds.
Lots of hole in the idea but worth talking about
We need a local FA Cup, but it must be done well
Bombolas was taken on at the Roar so as an ex Qld minister he could sort out some deals and I quote.
“I know a lot of members of Government, I know many bureaucrats and I’ll be leaning on some of those to try to work out some deals for the club.”
Looks like he had us all fooled as he hasnt delivered anything to date. The problem now is that if he does get a special deal it is seen as lobbying the state and favour will be done for a mate.
I am ashamed of him as chairman of the Roar as he care for himself and does not give a stuff about football or the Roar. I felt he handled the Farina incident badly as well.
Can Brisbane Roar turn their troubles around?
I think it would do no end of help to have a decent Brisbane side for the profile of football in Brisbane.
50% of boys 6 – 16 years of age play football in Brisbane so it not like no one plays it. It jus the support that is lacking and the general disinterest.
I can see Paul Okon the next in line for Ange.
A-League transfers are all Roar and no bite
I think its a top idea, but I think you will find that every single league player in NZ would give league up for a chance to play in a All Blacks side. I was listening to Wally Lewis this mornign talking about Origin in the 80s and it really was all about a great team (Qld) playing a great group of individual players (NSW). It really was a them v us attitude but with the NRL, ARL and the nation game being introduced there is a lack of fire when the Qlders play NSW maybe bring another team in will spark a fire in the belly once again. The crowds are still awesome and the football to class, but the biff is no longer there. 😉
Introduce a Kiwi Island of Origin series
I agree possibly bring in 2 more players on the field as well and why not have a line outs
Rugby league should bring back real scrums
Dont ever ever ever mess with the AFL and NRL seasons keep them well apart.
To be honest it been a disaster exept PG, AU, WP with out the MV the average crowd is 8767
MV are down but they still have strong crowds and is hardly an issue from the overall A – League persrpective.
I think that any crowd in the non major cities over 8000 is a success. BR will get thier 2nd highest crowd because it thier 2nd night game at suncorp.
BR are not under the FFA board and refused terms, its really a political issue. Remember the former minster ofr sport in Qld is now CEO of the Roar.
Despite all the poor news I still think that the A- League is still developing, remember that the AFL has had 150 years and the NRL 100 years. I just hope that the owners the supporters all realise that it a long term commitment and that despite all the neagtive stuff the A- league is still better format, better media and better comp that the NSL. It will get better it will have crowd numbers that go up and down. How many more people can the AFL and NRL get? it can grow forever there must be a ceiling that they can achieve with crowd numbers. What we really need is clubs that remain solvent and not go bankrupt because they have over commited. The FA in the UK have recognised this and punish clubs that are not solvent by stripping them of points.
FFA and club need to invest in youth football and recognise that strength of and sport is built from the grass roots up. Football already has 600,000 odd registered players so the numbers are there already. More kids play football than any other football code. It transfering the players to supporters that is the key. So the base is there Frank Lowrey knows this and that why the FFA has expanded so rapidly. In the hope that putting a frame work in that people will fill the seats.
Just stick by your team, stick by the FFA, stick by the Socceroos dont be a fair weather supporter because there will always be a low and high point in every team. The FFA whist not perfect and have stuff up on a few things is generally trying to work on improvement, they dont stick their head in the sand, I think they know to get success that all sorts of plans, statergies need to be used.
Despite the gloom, A-League crowds not plummeting
i watch with interest to see what happens after the other football codes finish up
Smeltz in a goalscoring league of his own
Who run football in this country the club or the FFA?
I watch with interest.
Swine flu keeps Minniecon grounded – for now
Im in 2 minds about Nicols he is a serial offender at passing the ball behind a running player, he struggles to judge the speed and the distance to pass the ball. Its usually in the midfield when the pass is more lateral to a man who needs to run onto the ball. The issue is that the player is commited and the turn over results in a quick counter. He often has a cry and doesnt bother getting back behind the ball to defend. ( all though I do remeber him doing it once) But I have seen him pass some pretty basic passes that have come know here near the intended receiptant.
Yet he has the abilty to pop up and finish some nice goals. Goals that need to be hit well and accurate. If you dotn close him down he will finish, I think he has been lucky to be in a good side lat year that didnt show him up to much. He has a talent for being in a position that let him gets the glory. He often doesnt have an average game, he is either on the ball woeful. Brisbane will struggle if he doesnt grow up a bit and stop thinking he should be in Europe.
If he pulls his head in and works on the passing he will be quite a good player, i wouldnt want him to lose the goal scoring ability because he is a natural goal scorer and has a enough self belief / arrogance.
Who is the A-League's next poster boy?
