Bench better this time for Tahs. Much prefer big guys like Holloway and Skelton coming on at 55, rather than starting with them in an attempt to dominate, only to see the oafs pace themselves and wilt. Poor handiwork by Horne & Folau but Horwitz had one of his good games. Clark error free, as per usual.
I can't get over the fact that Stage 1 is 10 teams play 135? qualifying matches. Stage 2 is 6 of those 10 playing 5 K-O matches. Bizarre. Throw in disruptive ACL matches and you get a lottery.
Hopeless across the field of course, mostly between the ears. I would like to focus on a few players.
Everyone on the Roar and at the Tahs knows that Paddy Ryan has never been able to scrum. Wrong shape, not strong enough, poor technique. No place in Super Rugby. Missing Kepu a big factor, not that he's the world's best scrummager.
Hooper doesn't scrum. Ben Robinson used to grab him to keep him honest. Now he's a passenger.
Latu has strength but not much else. Sees his main role as being second to the breakdown and using his hooker's arms for more turnovers than penalties. That' bonus comes way after the ability to rake and throw straight.
Folau used to have great hands. Now he seems to have caught up with the team's collective fumble. It's tempting to say his mind is elsewhere but he's not asleep. Can't lose that great hand-eye coordination, must be taking his eye of the ball. Perhaps he's getting gun shy.
In 3 minutes, Foley missed a conversion, had yet another kick charged down, then dropped a kick cold. When the "iceman" melted, the team melted away.
