You just hit the nail on the head with Akira, he’s lazy. I have watched him closely over the past few seasons and to be fair, his best rugby was when he was playing No 8. He now tends to seagull in the backs far too much.

Cotter must address depth and team cohesion issues to avoid first-season Blues

Excellent article, Harry. I, like you, favour option 4 and if we know Eddie at all, so does he!!

English way, Welsh way, Brumby way or the 'fight Pacific fire with a Pacific inferno' way: Eddie's four options vs Fiji

Spot on GoodGame, the Angus Ta’avao incident came to my mind also when reviewing previous comments. To me the fact that Farrell’s body wasn’t bent in an effort to tackle correctly indicates he was always going to have high contact. The onus is on the tackler to adopt a position which will not injure or engage in high contact, not the ball carrier, He failed to do both so I am at a loss to understand how there is no case to answer.

'Mockery', 'broken game', 'laughing stock': Rugby rages as red card reversal clears Owen Farrell for World Cup

Good to see you are being fair about the decision, possibly too much. Having said that you are entitled to think what you like and I agree not all decisions go as predicted. However, in this case, I believe the transcript etc of the proceedings will not be made public. If this is correct then I have to then ask why? What do they have to hide or do the RFU fear a successful appeal? If it’s the latter then they are then denying natural justice to apply which is a Common Law hallmark of all legal proceedings in this country and the UK. My personal opinion is the decision was such an abominable one that teams should group together and
threaten a boycott of the upcoming competition. On the face of it, this quite clearly smacks of favoritism in light of decisions which have preceded it and the severity of previous penalties. These proceedings have to be open and available for scrutiny otherwise any lingering faith in the judicial system will be lost and the games standing with suffer immeasurably.

Not a bad team, however, I would have Rodda instead of Frost. Also Ardie to 7 and Hoskins Sotutu to 8. I don’t think White and Smith worthy of a position against the likes of Weber who I would start and Christie on the bench. I am inclined to go with Alex Nankiville at 13 although Len Ikitau is a breath away. For me, Lienert-Brown is injury prone and therefore unreliable. The wingers look good but both a left wingers. I guess Reiko, having played 13 will probably adapt more easily but one thing is sure they have pace to burn. I would love to have Shaun Stevenson at 15 but considering the quality backline it is tailor made for Petaia’s attacking ability. Leaving Jordie out loses the long range kicking component though. At 16 I think Porecki or Lonergan, Taylor is getting too old. The only other change to the bench would be DMac for BB and Jordie for Will Jordan who I think will struggle to overcome his concussion problems.

Lions tamers: 16 All Blacks and 7 Wallabies in our projected ANZAC team to tackle the mighty reds in 2025

I saw the 71 Lions play Auckand and the ABs in Auckland and they were a very good side, far better than any other Lions team to have come before them. When yiu are tryingto compare different era teams, so many factors must be considered. Gone are the 20 or so matches on tour now days, enter professionalism in place of amateurism and consider the massive rule changes throughout that 44 year period. My memory is not that great but 4 tests, and 1 v Maori ABs, another v Junior ABs plus games against Canterbury and Auckland makes it nearly an 8 test tour with a touring party of just 30 players. How many international teams could sustain that sort of effort and commitment today? They are the questions that should be asked and answered when pondering this comparison of the two sides

Who was better? 1971 Lions versus 2015 All Blacks

I understand what you are saying and agree it may improve Hooper’s game without the weight of leadership. So who are the automatic inclusions in the Wallabies who command the same respect as Hoops? Is it Alaalatoa (captain of Brumbies), Gordon (captain of the Waratahs), McDermott (captain of the Reds)? Nobody from the Westeren Force or the Rebels are candidates so the option of changing our captain right no is dead in the water. Of the previously identified players, none starters so who else is there? Nobody measures up like Hooper does. He may be remiss in some areas (talking to refs) but there is nothing wrong with his decision making and all round ‘gameability’. I would pick him every day of the week as a starting 7 and captain. BTW, I am a Kiwi without bias, just love this game and appreciate expertise when I see it, irrespective of borders.

Hooper is brave and elite, and changing a captain is momentous, but it's a risk worth taking

Says someone who just a series to Ireland. Show me a better No 7 in the world today that can go 80 minutes. There is only one, Dalton Papalii and he is serving his apprenticeship. He will get there in time. BTW, I am a kiwi not pushing my own barrow here.

Agreed

I totally agree Whooshka, in fact, like my other sport (water polo) actual time elapses only when the ball is in play, much the same as a number of sports – gridiron and basketball to name a couple. In water polo each quarter is 8 minutes of actual playing time which extends to about 12-13 minutes of real time. Clearly, the length of our halves would need to be addressed, I’m thinking possibly 30 minute halves. Other interesting points in water polo, even the penalty shots taken from major fouls are taken in ‘dead time’. Additionally, it is an offence to waste time (only a minor foul) which results in a team change of possession. Furthermore, if a player is excluded from the game for brutality (red card), the player can be replaced after 4 minutes of actual time elapsing. With each quarter being 8 minutes of actual time a rough correlation with rugby would probably be in the region of 20 minutes before the red carded player could be replaced. I haven’t intended to give everyone a lesson in water polo rules but demonstrate some sports have got it pretty near right already and a ‘leaf’ could possibly be taken.

The public deserves better for their Test rugby dollar

The biggest problem I have experienced with Kayo is maintaining the internet connection. Obviously, that would depend on geographic location and type of connection. We don’t have NBN yet and are doing everything through a landline, however, I still get kicked off during a game when internet traffic in my area becomes excessive. No doubt this will change in the future but currently it’s far from perfect. The way to avoid having to ongoingly connect to specific games is to take the Channel 507 option on Fox through Kayo. This option is at the end of all the viewing options. Obviously, that only works when all games are being shown on 507 but most are.

Brumbies coach wants free-to-air TV deal

Yes they do

It doesn’t make it right though.

I totally agree.

I totally agree. If only he had kept his mouth shut but that negates what he is trying to say. It’s a real shame as (I’m an All Blacks supporter) everyone wants to play against the best of the best and he will be a huge loss to Australia. Think about his try record and then think about how many more it could have been if he hadn’t played Rugby Leagure and AFL for 5 years (?). Could he have scored nearly 100 tries, I think so. He is one of the most gifted players I have ever seen and I am nearing 70 so I’ve seen a few. I hate seeing the Wallabies win especially when it’s NZ as the losers but I love watching this man soar above others and score the unscorable tries. He’s a freak and to tear up his contract is to deny the world an opportunity to continually witness greatness of an individual’s sporting endeavour. Having said that I don’t know where Raelene goes from here. To say she is between a rock and a hard place simplifies it, basically.

There is one thing I know about you, you do care!!

Kiwis get stuck into Super Rugby format

Well may you have a glib look on you face. BTW with Ackerman going do you think that will affect the Lions seeing as he brought them from nowhere when others (even John Mitchell) couldn’t?

The numbers behind the 2017 Lions tour

Spiro I’ve lived in Australia for more than 37 years but born a kiwi. That really brought it all back to me, especially Athletic Park where sometimes you had to hang on to something to stop being blown over. It will be a great series and I pray the Lions never stop touring because it’s great for the game. I would like to see all teams visiting the UK to play a test against the Lions. At the moment the nearest thing to that is the Barbarians but the last time they looked like a Lions side was in 1972, the team that scored the greatest try of all time started by Phil Bennett and scored by Gareth Edwards.

The 2017 Lions are up against history and a rugby nation united behind the All Blacks

Trust me, there are many!!

The 2017 Lions are up against history and a rugby nation united behind the All Blacks

I am amazed at your comments. None of these guys are up to it.. I just watched two games tonight, one of which was close to a test match standard and the other was rubbish. but we continue to to say we are going well. Australian rugby is probably at its worst state I have ever seen it. What I suggest is we ditch South Africa and Jaguares but retain everyone in our time zone like the Sun Wolves, all 5 aussie teams all the kiwi teams and a Polynesian tream. I also propose free transfer between all clubs but allowing the players to play for their countries. Why can’t kiwi players players play for our clubs and vice vicerca. They do in thew NRL so why not in Superugby aussie style. We are going down the gurglia being ruled by SANZAAR. Piss them off and play like we use to, it was so much more brutal in tose daysd!!!!!!!

Four Wallaby bolters who could be Cheika's 'Peter Who?'

What a great idea!. It also enhances Japan’s financial standing and reduces the voting power of South Africa who have the backing of their TV networks. That strong backing has had a lot to do with the unfair conference structure and the current state of the Super 18. Japan should be encouraged as they have shown they can play – WC 2015 Japan V South Africa, go you Blossoms!
