Brisbane Roar Brisbane Broncos GPS Queensland if in doubt kick it out

I think people are within their rights to question a club signing a 38 year old but I do agree that people need to be a bit more researched before they comment.
It’d save a bit of energy
As a roar fan I hope Broich wasn’t let go because of his age
Our squad is certainly a mixed bag but we always draw on our talented Youth team anyway
Hopefully we can glean a bit of info from the FFA cup games on squad balances
Too old? How about we watch Maccarone play first?
This article seems to be written as Cairns competing with all the other expansion candidates for that next spot in the A-League.
This is a flawed way of looking at things
I’m a QLDer and would love NQ to have at least the Fury back and a Cairns team.
But it won’t happen any time soon.
1. The FFA are NSW and VIC centric
2. The league isn’t ready for expanding or 2nd division yet
Once these two things change, then expansion candidates should be looked at
And as much as I love NQ, you’ll be down the pecking order, once Canberra and Wollongong transition in then NQ should be added
What hope is there for football in Cairns?
Waz I’m also a QLD Socceroos fan but it does make sense to hold the Thailand game somewhere cold like Melbourne
Ange has stated it himself that he wants Australia to create a bigger home advantage for his team (crowd, weather etc.)
Although ur point is valid that the Socceroos can’t overdo it, need to get used to winning in all conditions
Queensland deserves to see more of the Socceroos
As a football fan in QLD it’s obviously not ideal and appreciate Tuckermans article but it’s s bit of a nothing issue
Nothing can really be done, financially and objectively a game in Brisbane won’t satisfy the FFA
Financially, the QLD govt is all over the shop and football is a long way down the pecking order of sports on their priority list. Having said that, Socceroos games generally get bigger crowds in Brisbane than has been seen in Adelaide and Sydney. Perth did pack its stadium but it’s comparatively tiny
Objectively, Suncorp Stadium’s pitch isn’t great. The Socceroos are convinced that the Southern states will offer them a better pitch which they probably would, suiting the way we try to play.
TBH people want the Socceroos to be able to play the way they’ve been trying to so maybe not choosing Suncorp is fair there. As badly as I want a socceroos game in Brisbane, the Thailand game would be the worst to have in Brisbane seeing as the bad pitch and humidity would probably just help Thailand a bit.
Having said all that, the FFAs image is already a tarnished one and ignoring one of its largest fan bases for so long deserves to be scrutinised regardless
Has Brisbane been abandoned by football in Australia?
I agree punter
I have been cynical at times regarding Anges unwavering belief in playing out from the back
But regardless of the complaints this emphasis on total football diversifies the ways Australia can be good, if in doubt we can always go back to kicking it out
A disappointing result, but cultural change is the real aim of Ange's game
Milligan has always been a technically sound and very solid player so it is weird that so many Aussies have secured deals in Europe (of varying size and success) yet Milligan hasn’t
A disappointing result, but cultural change is the real aim of Ange's game
I agree that it’s mostly physicality and urgency that got Aus over the line vs UAE
Interesting to see Aus actually score 3 goals from open play against a stingy team
I still back Ange but he better not overdo the craziness with selections and systems.
The mind boggles at how Dylan McGowan is in the side.
He was one of the defenders fiend wanting in pretty much the A-Leagues worst defence and somehow he got selected.
Everyone’s hating on Ryan McGowan but can hardly blame him considering the new system he was put under.
I thought Kruse and Jedinak were good.
Mooy and Rogic for me were disappointing, they are our most gifted players but have to be prepared to hustle because international football don’t give too many chances.
Socceroos beat Saudi Arabia in spite of systemic issues
I couldn’t agree more with this article.
It can’t just be the FFA, perhaps more a cultural cringe associated with the game in Australia unless you’re going for a trendy European club.
FFA should re-think its marketing of the Socceroos
Anon
It’s basic economics that the FFA either ignore or haven’t addressed.
FFA should re-think its marketing of the Socceroos
I think the relatively poor support for the Socceroos could be a combination of the attitude problem aforementioned as well as the poor marketing from the FFA.
Football continues to have teething problems and hopefully this identity crisis resolves to more people actually getting behind the Socceroos and an A-League club.
Having said that I went to the Asian Cup game vs South Korea in Brisbane and the atmosphere for that was actually very good, Suncorp Stadium pretty much packed.
When it comes to big events and summer events Australian fans can turn up.
If marketing was better for these qualifiers as well as a bit more
I don’t think smaller stadiums are the answer either for a variety of reasons.
Football has the ability to go forwards and get bigger, why go backwards.
Surprisingly Thailand only got 30,000 to their game against us in Bangkok, this is a massive football notion that really gets behind its team yet the crowd wasn’t that big. There would’ve been at least 2,000 Aussies there as well.
One thing you have to give credit to Ange for is getting behind his team, although he has to make sure he doesn’t overdo it because all Aussie fans do tall poppy syndrome.
Will the Socceroos make the World Cup and does Australia even care?
Robbie Juric sounds like an interesting player
Seriously I don’t think Cahill has to prove his worth to go to the WC
I do agree that Jedinak has been immense as a captain and in midfield so it is a loss
Confederations Cup preview: Australia
The mighty Brisbane Olympic
Love getting out to Goodwin Park
Jai Ingham, Matt Mundy and others are solid players
I think the NPL Queensland is now going through the motions a bit I reckon
it was at a really good standard a couple of seasons ago
That was evidenced by the number of players pushing up into the Roar and other clubs
It’s an interesting time to be alive
Missing the A-League? Try watching a local club
I agree
This is why I don’t think there should be a second team in Brisbane itself, even though I’d wholeheartedly agree there should be another team in QLD
How significant is the Melbourne derby?
I pretty much relate with everything in this article
It’ll be a shame to lose the joy of Viceland documentaries and average graphics interspersed with Ruben Zadkovich captivating the empty rows of Hindmarsh Stadium
A-League gets its FTA future, but loses football's SBS heritage
On the topic of expansion I think there’s two sides
One is that the league needs more clubs to avoid the league stagnating and create more oportinities for young players etc, as well as appeal to new markets around the country.
The other side is that the leagues current 10 clubs aren’t exactly prospering.
If the league were to expand soon I’d say Wollongong and Canberra have to be near the best candidates for me
As a QLDer I think Townsville could work but requires a more mature and patient approach from the league.
For me it’s a crucial market to break into, the NRL and AFL are doing big things up there but there’s a really strong football history along with the ethnic history up there so it’d be a shame to lose NQ
It’s always baffled me how the GC continues to fail to support franchises.
It’s got the population, plenty of people play sport up there and plenty of talent comes out of the GC
It is a transient place but the fact that even an NRL team finds it tricky is crazy
Does Melbourne deserve two A-League teams?
Goes without saying a lot of homework has to be done before City come in or any Brisbane team for that matter
Queensland does seem to have a very large football partication base but an awful conversion rate into Roar fans, let alone rusted on ones who go to more than five games a season.
This could play into City’s favour, they look about a thousand times sharper than the Roar so they will surely engage this demographic which could make them more than viable
I am still concerned though that this team would cannibalise the Roars fanbase if City don’t galvanise the status of rhe ALeague here in QLD
As for the non economic side this is where the FFA need to look outward.
Personally I think a team from another QLD city is still the way to go, Gold Coast would be the logical choice and could work if managed better given its proven production line of good players and population but even NRL struggles there so who knows.
North Queensland could be worth another look
Ipswich is a city on the up but its proximity to Brisbane is a tricky one. Also I get the impression that a lot of the Roars most rusted on fans are based out in Ipswich.
Brisbane itself doesn’t have the tribalness required and seems to be too rugby dominated and competitive for a genuine derby. City and Strikers have shown they do have the plans to carve a niche for themselves which is encouraging but not my first choice
Brisbane fans live in every corner of Brisbane and a North vs South divide is more banter than anything.
Having said this I have lived on the Northside now InnerSouth and they are different
Brisbane Roar or Brisbane City? It’s a conundrum!
Brisvegas I agree Brisbane isn’t a tribal city with a genuine divide within the city.
A derby could work but it wouldn’t get close to the Sydney vs Western Sydney derby because it lacks that divide and hatred.
One thing the Strikers’ big has is that there seems to be genuine hatred between Strikers and Hollandia Inala (now Brisbane Roar)
Brisbane fans are very spread out, probably the most concentrated in the south-western suburbs but I know Roar fans live in every corner of Brisbane and all over QLD
Brisbane Roar or Brisbane City? It’s a conundrum!
I agree the FIFA rankings always seem to leave more questions than it answers.
Not sure on the references to Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan either
Australia slide down in new FIFA rankings
Goodness I agree with this Locomotiv
Comedy exhibition games - on and off the field - only hurt the A-League
Yeah it’s a toughie but you’ll generally get more kids at a Sunday game than a Friday night game anyway
I’d say a later kick off means more of a build up for the game such as those at home can actually watch the build up, and means people have time to get to the game after or from work
I think the pregame march also works better with a later kick off
I prefer a later kick off but at the same time a significant portion of our support is families so understandable if they want to try make it easier for them
A-League crowds are a concern, even if the football is fine
