…like Bradley Wiggins? I’ll quote from the article.
“He’s not bad on a bicycle for starters and then there’s his sport of choice away from the spokes and Lycra…rugby league.
Born in Ghent, raised in north London but living in a tiny village near Chorley. He had NO ESCAPE in deepest Lancashire.”
Doesn’t really prove your assertion that league is “doing well” to attract support outside it’s heartlands, does it.

Why rugby union must innovate or die: Part I
@Greg
Yeah the Kiwi v Kangaroos tests in the 80s were pretty buzzy.
The warriors have really replaced the Kiwis in terms of profile over here, to a large extent.
The warriors playing the NRL grand final would easily outrate a world cup final appearance by the Kiwis, for example.

That’s a big call, and other than long-established ‘league countries’ such as Australia, PNG etc, i can’t think of ANY places where league wins the contest. Just sayin…
Why rugby union must innovate or die: Part I
klestical,
“this growth in New Zealand particularly has exploded out of nowhere… Now, it is apparently bigger than Rugby Union in the Auckland area.”
Rugby league bigger than union in Auckland? Not even close. South Auckland? Not even there son.

Is it a class thing?
Rugby lacks the talent of rugby league
Anakin,
Um… Brad Thorn plays in the second row not the ‘union front row’
