So glad that i am not the only person who isnt a complete moron around here – Jedinak is not suited to Postecoglues highlined high pressing possession based system. And if the writer thinks that Bresciano was our best up until he went off then i want whatever he is smoking. He was our second worst after jedinak and had it not have been for his set pieces he would have been the worst. In a high pressing system as soon as one player doesn’t apply the hard press the whole system falls down as there is always one player free for the opposing player to play out through. When Bresc plays this is what inevitably happens. Add that leckie is not suited to this game style either. He’s too direct, doesn’t have the touch and finesse to work the ball around. All three of them would suit a counter attacking system where the defence sits back suiting jedinak would would become another CB heading balls clear and creating a wall, and then leckie on the counter attack would be devastating. Milligan should be starting over jedinak and bresc shouldn’t even be in the squad Aaron Mooy does everyhting he can albeit with a bigger engine and an eye to youth.

Asian Cup: Victory a fitting jewel in Postecoglou's crown

“Ange got it wrong” – no he didn’t! Focus on he big icture and that is winning the tournament. We’d already qualified for the next stage which was a much of a muchness in terms of teams we’d face (or as you’ve pointed out we’ve actually got the easier team) so why run the players into the ground?!

“the team Ange sent out wasn’t good enough to win” – were you even watching the match we were the better team and created more chances. It was only bad luck and finishing which prevented us winning this game (as well as a signle brainsnap defensively) .

“Burns didn’t stake a claim” – again, wrong. With the exception of the defensive lapse Burns was brilliant rarely gave the ball away and set up a couple of good chances. Those 2 runs into the box he did were awesome as well, last player that did that for Oz was Kewell in his prime. Superior player to leckie who lacks the technical ability to play this game style.

2015 Asian Cup: Ange lost the game, but it's not the end for Australia

Great article although i would have Son as number 1, Honda 2 and Kagawa 3. And personally i get the feeling that our player of the tournament is going to be James Troisi!

25 players to light up the Asian Cup

Cowan?! is this a joke?

Cowan in, Starc out: Australia's best Test XI

Whoa good little stat that one did not know that. Good article Ronan!

Fact: David Warner is the world's best batsman

Incredibly overrated player and the constant garbage about him being ‘reliable’ and a ‘team player’ is just emotive BS and really means that he’s constantly mediocre which is proven by his stats and recently have been getting worse. He did a job whilst our stocks were low circa 08-11 but these days there are many bowlers around that trump him. If we want someone to truly hold up an end and keep it tight to restrict runs and suffocate the other team then they should go all out in that regard and pick someone like sayers or bird who have phenonmenal FC records.

The Siddle Summit: Is Pete cooked or ready to resurrect?

Had archie chosen to continue in Europe circa 2005 rather than come back to the a league im sure he would have cemented a place in a good euro league (eg a france, germany or holland) and been a lock for a socceroo place rather than the periphery figure he played for most of his national team career. Because he came back to Australia i don’t think most australians know how good he really was. Should be inducted as the first legend of the A league when he finally calls time.

Archie, we're glad the A-League knew ye

“Having a league in which the best players are annually – or biannually – shipped off to bigger competitions is utterly unsustainable.”

Wrong – being a selling league is what will make us sustainable in the long term and will be the best direction for maximising Australian playing stocks on a global scale and in turn improving the socceroos. We don’t have sheik’s or Russian Oligarch’s queuing up to buy our clubs and routinely lose millions of dollars a year.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Why do we need Maxwell when we’ve already got Smith and Clarke in the team who are both more than handy spinners?

If the selectors are fair dinkum about picking a second specialist spinner and are fair dinkum about rewarding consistent shield form (so they’ve said) then Stephen O’Keefe is a no brainer. Plus he can bat as well!

Glenn Maxwell close to Test recall

Good article by he way Jordan, well said

Shaun Marsh is not a Test quality batsman

Hughes in at 3 for Marsh, Waton in at 4 for Doolan = Australian batting lineup instantly 30% better

Shaun Marsh is not a Test quality batsman

The choices Ange Postecoglou must make

Really enjoyed reading this and the memories it brought back.. well done!

Lleyton Hewitt's top ten best wins

As an out and out striker, yes I think Kewell could be fantastic. he’s no longer quick enough for the wing and hasn’t the stamina or agilty for CM but in the past few years has bulked up a lot and seems to be very strong. His heading is also vastly underrated – could be the new viduka for us.

Harry's hopes for Brazil get a boost

Ablett, then daylight, daylight again, Judd, then daylight again, then Goodes

Goodes or Ablett Jr: who is better?

In hindsight it has been a bad move because he has fallen just short of playing time meaning he has been left to linger on the bench. But at the time Rogic made the decision (to the head to Celtic) it was a good one. A massive club playing in the champions league and deep into cup comps. The problem is Rogic has been injured for half the season to date and the guy who is ahead of him is rated by Lennon as being in the form of his life.

The biggest question for mine then is – why didn’t he go on loan to another Euro club like a French, Belgian or Dutch club?

The curious career of Tom Rogic

1. And Victory will stop this from happening how exactly? By your logic im sure Victory weren’t happy with Heart coming into Melbourne full stop but there’s nothing they can do because the market positioning of clubs is ultimately approved by the FFA.

2. Fans that previously supported neither team may begin to support Heart which really is the largest potential area of growth. After all, melb is 4 mil ppl, only 18,000 a week turn up to Victory and 7,000 to Heart so that’s a lot of ppl who are still unaccounted for. A lot of ppl whom may potentially jump on the bandwagon should they ‘identify’ with the club. As we’ve mentioned geography is the easiest and most ubiquitous way to do this.

3. Whoever started supporting a team because they had better facilities?! North Melbourne have good facilities now, and they still only have 3 supporters.

Melbourne doesn't have the heart for two teams

Johnson, but then Haddin and then daylight.

Is Haddin the man of the series ahead of Johnson?

As I always say whenever anyone writes this article, the solution is = South-East Melbourne United (leave the branding to the ppl like what they did with WSW) with the natural boundary of separation being the Yarra River. Base the club out at Waverley or Monash Uni and start building links with the area.

Melbourne doesn't have the heart for two teams

Yes early on he bowled quick, but throughout the bulk of his career for Australia which was after he came back from the collision with S Waugh (00-06) he mostly bowled at 135-145 km which as I mentioned complimented the our attack perfectly

Is 130kmh too slow to be a Test bowler?

Totally agree Ronan and in fact I would say that our penchant for speed has actually already seen us overlook good options. Damien Fleming for example was a beautiful bowler yet was overlooked in favour of Brett Lee despite his average being better than Lee’s.
Stuart Clark likewise was probably discarded 2 years before he should have been in favour of Siddle and Johnson despite having a much better record. If you bowl the ball in the right spots and can move it in the air and off the seam then you’ll always threaten batsmen.

Furthermore I think it’s a must to actually have one bowler who bowls around the 128-135 in your team as a means of variety and balance. Take the all conquering aussie team 99-07:
Med-Fast (125-135) Glenn McGrath
Fast-Med (135-145) Jason Gillespie
Fast (145+) Brett Lee

McGrath was the ‘stock’ bowler who’d bowl long spells and keep it tight, whilst Lee was the ‘shock’ bowler frightening batsmen with his speed (albeit leaking runs) in short bursts, and meanwhile Gillespie was something in between (like Harris)

Is 130kmh too slow to be a Test bowler?

The two biggest contenders who are not already established socceroos, are Sainsbury and Spiranovic. Both are head and shoulders above any other defenders in the league and play in a position that we are weak in.

How are the A-League's World Cup bolters shaping up?

100 wickets… I wonder how sooner this milestone would have come had Haddin been keeping throughout this whole period rather then Wade.

Why Nathan Lyon is not Spin Jesus

James, totally agree mate. People are making way too big of a deal out of this. It’s clear his motivation isn’t there anymore so why stand in the way of someone who is most likely raring to go (Panesar).

It's Swann's way, as Graeme chooses a divisive retirement
