What’s the alternative though? Say, “I think there’s issues with Grey’s work as defense coach?” – a week away from another go around the mulberry bush with the Darkness? That’s not going to do a lot for either the performance of the defense coach or the players? What you say to media and what you actually think are always two completely different things…

And how would any of us know whether Grey’s defensive plans are any good or not? If players aren’t making the tackles, we’re none the wiser.

If we were actually making tackles and still getting carved up, then fair enough. But we can’t realistically debate the merits of Grey/Cheika’s “hide the playmakers” defensive structure, if the front line defenders aren’t making the tackles. We just don’t know if it could work at all…

The actual selection decisions necessitating players being hidden is another question entirely – and one definitely worthy of debate.

Wake up Wallabies, rugby is an 80 minute game

Yes indeed. Well said.

The annual Christmas wish list: Rugby edition

Totally agree Antoni.

As to the opinion piece, I think it’s largely speculative drivel relying on assumptions, half-truths and unproven hypotheses yet I thank the author for the read.

Attitude the major problem for the Wallabies

I became interested in rugby as a kid after reading articles in the SMH by “this guy with a weird name”. The most interesting insights and opinions in cricket came from Peter Roebuck. In rugby, it was Spiro.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the memories, Spiro

Wallabies future is bright, insists Cheika

I’d be surprised if we don’t see a Pooper redux with Hooper and McMahon trotted out early on next year – especially against the Scottish…

The Wrap: Wallabies go missing in the championship quarter

Totally agree with this.

Five talking points from England vs Wallabies Spring Tour Test

You’re comparing an apple (the Australian playing pool) with an orange (the English equivalent).

Australia has the talent (just) to cover a XV + limited injury cover. What we saw today shows the lack of depth across the park comparatively. To be able to replace Billy V with Nathan Hughes is a luxury we don’t have (yet).

Cheika has done a wonderful job of restoring player pride in the jersey. They turned up today. They were on. There is a belief there that I’ve not seen under Link, (outside of the 2013 EOYT and his last game before resigning) and certainly more than anything we saw with Deans.

Some work to do on exits and learning when to be the Harlem Globetrotters and when to play 10 man rugby, but still, I feel like Wallaby rugby is in a better place now thanks to his leadership than it has been for years.

For mine, the glass is half-full.

Lunacy.

Not really. If anything it’s worth more.

Lord makes an assertion with no substantive examples given to support his position.

What! certainly does and contributes to the discussion moreso than the original author.

Big questions: Can Kuridrani equal Ella, should we farewell Moore for Folau?

Beautiful. Literally laughed out loud.

Wallabies vs England - what's your tip?

Folau as captain? Smoking. Crack.

Wallabies by 52.

Your boxing ring analogy is mindless. We’re talking about courage on the rugby field. Foley stayed flat in the face of extreme rush defenses smashing him back on his butt regularly. Cooper’s entire test history shows that once the forwards are going backwards, he retreats 10 – 15m back from the gain line.

And yes. On balance, Foley’s performances this year have been better as the starting 10 than Cooper’s.

Cheika's 2016 Wallabies: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Thought he looked like the old Stephen Moore against Wales and Scotland, but seemed to be MIA last week against the Irish. I’d like to see new options next year, (and a new captain).

Wallabies team to play England: Timani, Naivalu to start, Mumm benched

Frisby hasn’t shown anything worth picking him over Phipps.

Nonsense

Agreed.

The grand slam: Don’t dream, it’s over

Yeah, I’m sorry but your baseline premise of a petulant Cheika does not match the reality of any interview he gave. “…near to apoplexy” is just empty, meaningless hysteria.

The Irish deserved to win. They were the better team on the day. We could have won it, if not for execution issues entirely of our own creation. To say the refereeing was consistent with itself or consistent versus other tier 1 referees is erroneous.

Cheika gets graceless over Garces with Grand Slam gone

Obviously because we’re not following PR’s game plan.

…or maybe it’s the first year of a WC cycle?

Wallaby Grand Slam hopes gone, and so must be Dean Mumm

Do we have a back rower anywhere with a “bl” in their name? I just want to be able to call it the “Blooper” when we play two 7’s…

Highlights: Wallabies' Grand Slam dream gone after 24-27 loss to Ireland

Disagree re: both Mummy and Simmons. Where they both have played like powder puffs in the past, they both put in hard efforts – especially in that first 30 when we were getting whistled off the park at the breakdown.

Highlights: Wallabies' Grand Slam dream gone after 24-27 loss to Ireland

Agreed David. Hope we turn up with our A game so we can really gauge where you’re at and where we’ve come since June.

It’s going to be a monstrously epic encounter. This next week can’t go fast enough!

Wallaby Grand Slam hopes gone, and so must be Dean Mumm

Agreed. Simmons did a lot of really good hard work today – especially when we were under the pump in the first half.

Slipper just looks beaten and a shadow of his former self.
