Utter 1970’s garbage stereotypes, you guys have been well and truly indoctrinated.

You can enjoy more than one football code you know, gasp!
There is a reason soccer is number one,by a large margin, on planet earth. Enjoy your rugby/AFL and enjoy football too.
Think for yourself. Just once.

Soccer is the alternative to AFLX

Seems like a negative article to me.
CCM have done so well for so long, now they’re down everyone is sticking the boot in.

CCM dropped Reddy and Bosnar because they didn’t buy in to Walmsley’s tactics, they were a disruptive influence so they had to go. Shame because a team made mostly of youth need a spine of experienced players to guide them. This is where LG fits so well. Part of the reason he agreed to come was for the mentor role to younger players.

Caceras wanted to leave so CCM let him go and got a nice transfer fee. Good business.

This signing should also see a boost in crowd numbers.
In no way does this go against the “entertainment, youth and community” mantra.
This is an exciting signing by CCM, both for their own supporters and the league as a whole.
CCM should be applauded.

What does Garcia's signing mean for the Mariners?

+1000
Evidence based decision making would be great.
I’d like to know the reality behind salary cap vs no salary cap too.
There is enough sport played around the world to get some reliable data for these questions.

Is A-League expansion heading down the wrong track?

“Minor premiers”

If anything the GF winners are minor premiers because they have only won a six team mini comp.
The diminishing of winning the league in this country is maddening.

Is A-League expansion heading down the wrong track?

Institute the 3+1 rule or 4+1, 5+1 whatever, as long as there is a +1.
It won’t solve everything but does show some integration with Asia.

Won’t hurt the HAL broadcast rights in the region either.

Push to evict Australia from Asian soccer

Which begs the question,if numbers aren’t the problem, what is?
Maybe the multitude of different development pathways might be? Every man and his dog has his hand in the fee paying “academy” merry-go-round. The fees are high but the standard of coaching quite often isn’t.
If the FFA ever gets a well funded and well thought out system nation wide, from grassroots to the top..well it just might be a game changer.
But won’t they have a fight on their hands getting all the fingers out of the pie.

The Socceroos need fanatical fans to succeed

Agree with football playing second fiddle, but as you said “Again as the game continues to grow this should become less of a problem.”. If you look at Uruguay, only 3.4 mil. Even with competing sports I can see the growth of football in this country matching their juniors numbers one day.

The Socceroos need fanatical fans to succeed

With regard to population:

Belgium FIFA Rank 4 pop 11.2 mil
Netherlands FIFA Rank 5 pop 16.8 mil
Portugal FIFA Rank 7 pop 10 mil
Uruguay FIFA Rank 10 pop 3.4 mil

We do have the population to be a top 20 team at least. Just need to get the development right.

The Socceroos need fanatical fans to succeed

I don’t watch the big three commercial channels. If they moved AFL to SBS I wouldn’t start watching it, I’m just not interested.
I will watch whatever channel has the football but I would prefer it to stay on SBS because they know and respect the game.
I don’t think the channel is the problem. If you love the sport you will find it no matter where it is.
Increased ratings may need the attraction of the so called Euro snobs. How do EPL ratings compare to the HAL? Is there really a different group watching Euro football that does not watch the Aussie league?
One thing I hear often is the idea that the HAL is low quality. Maybe changing that perception and increasing the quality may do more for ratings than channel jumping.

Can football afford to walk away from SBS?

Is it likely for a team to win from sixth?
In the nine GF played to date the team with the higher league finish won seven. The lowest league position for a GF winner is second and the lowest league position for any team appearing in a GF is third.

Two leg finals would reduce the small chance of a cellar dweller winning, make it less like a mini cup and more like the rest of the league, lengthen the season and bring in more revenue.

It’s time we stopped rewarding mediocrity
