Welcome to a big Saturday of NRC coverage, with the final game of the day between Brisbane City and Melbourne Rising. Join us for…
101-0. It sounds like a reasonable opening partnership. But no, it actually refers to the scoreline in a recent schoolboy rugby match in Sydney…
Remarks made by Jon Plumtree, the coach of the Sharks, back in August that the Australian conference is the weakest in the Super Rugby…
There’s also a Facebook page which links through to that site as well. Only 41 likes, so it’s not gained much traction – but if you google NRC live stream it’s the first thing that pops up. And it’s not where you want to go.

Streams, a shield and craft beer: How to boost the NRC
My favourite was his comment to the City front row after a collapsed scrum that “the ground is not your friend”

He played well. Threatened on numerous occasions

That was not expected.
With both sides coming into this match undefeated (yes, only 2 rounds, but still), and plenty of stars out there a close contest was expected. With Melbourne taking the lead 29-18 at the break there was no indication of what was about to happen, and a clean 50 points were scored by the Rising in the second half. Even though City brought some parity back into the scrum, they were completely blown away everywhere else.
For the Rising, Sean McMahon had a great game, as too did Tom English – but given the comprehensiveness of the victory there wasn’t much separating the players out there. For City, Frisby and Kerevi tried hard.
I’d given a scoring breakdown, but given the regularity of points being scored, you’ll have to wait until the official details are released. I was doing my best just to keep up with the play.
Thanks for tuning in.

Kerevi did have his moments – but the City pack was well and truly monstered there.

79′ 74-18 Kick off fielded up English, and they attempt to run it out of their own half, before knocking on.

38′ 71-18 And then over through Johansson (#23), who will attempt to convert his own try.

37′ 66-18 Some great hands from the Rising pack sees them very very close in front of the sticks

36′ 66-18 Scrum holds, but advantage to City for Melbourne collapsing. They try to run it out through Tapuai, but going nowhere. Brought back for the penalty

35′ 66-18 City scrum on their own 22. About 5 from the sideline, near side. The packs are having trouble setting here. Gotta be longer than 30 seconds? Not that City mind I suppose.

He’s been non-stop – hard to argue with that choice

Nope – they lose the ball and the Rising clear

Can they salvage something here?

33′ 66-18 Scrum penalty against the newly arrived #17 Tuia (Mel) sees a city lineout 10 out

32′ 66-18 Genia scragged. The ensuing ruck is pretty messy. Somehow City retain it before Genia just drops it. Not sure what happend there.

Agree PP – you even see sides struggling in Subbies when they move up a division (thinking Lindfield here), and whilst that doesn’t always happen, the step up to SS is substantial. To be able to gear up enough to attract sponsors quickly would be difficult. You see the same in the EPL – it’s very difficult for clubs who get promoted to stay in.
You’ve hit the nail on the head – they are the bastions of club rugby in the west.
