Ricky Stuart is the Zack Snyder of NRL, doesn’t matter what he does or achieves there’ll always be people ready to tear him down. He’s done brilliantly with this team, doesn’t matter if they win the GF or not, for the first time in years the Green machine is breathing fire.

The Raiders premiership favourites? Not if Ricky can help it

Great article, visions of Wingy of finishing the last sentence, dropping the mic and exiting stage left.

CRAIG WING: New South Wales need execution to match their energy

Can we punt Bob Fulton? Dude was perched up in the box like Emperor Palpatine watching his Death Star explode with all the arrogance of a fictional evil overlord.

Swing the axe, Laurie - NSW cleanout must start immediately

“The only thing that varies is how many pooper valves Wally Lewis ruptures”.
That’ll do me, giggled like a damn school girl. Bravo.
*Slowly stand and clap*

The Blues must save face and lump for youth

“However, you gotta be professional and discreet about it.
The Eels weren’t
That is all we are really punishing them for and to me that just isn’t right”
Sorry Tim, have to disagree mate. The Eels were give several chances to come clean. Several more than was afforded to any other club found rorting the system. Greenburg made comments to the effect that when Storm was penalised he hated that they couldn’t accrue points so he felt this punishment was as fair to the fans as possible and I agree with him. The Eels have been systematically rorting the system since 2013, you can’t afford to take the fans feelings into consideration, but the NRL did and now Parramatta gets the cap under control and they’re free to get points back on the board. The issue isn’t that the Eels got caught, it’s that they cheated, got caught, had the chance to come clean and continued to duck and weave. All in all a very fair outcome.

Parramatta only broke the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not get caught

Ahhh Rugby League, you big beautiful mess. No issue whatsoever with players being charged for touching refs, absolute issue with MRC picking and choosing who gets charged. Article in the SMH today saying Mitchell Moses was only warned because there was 4 seconds left on the shot clock and well, here it is in it’s entirety:

“However, the panel decided not to take any action against the Tigers playmaker as James stepped backwards and was in the way of Moses as he prepared to feed the scrum in the allotted 35 seconds on the shot clock.
Under rules introduced this season, teams failing to form a scrum before the shot clock winds down will be penalised and there was only four seconds remaining when Moses put his left hand on the left arm of James and moved him aside before feeding the ball”

Make’s perfect sense. You may never touch a referee, unless they happen to be in reach within that 4 second window of the shot clock winding down… Lol Rugby League, I love you with everything I got, but sometimes you give me a headache.

Sorry Dave and James, you really can't touch this

Whilst you can argue that this game shouldn’t have been decided by golden point, how about focusing on the fact that the Broncos had 3 seconds left on the clock and one tackle left to make to get their hands on the premiership. That’s on them, whether they lost the game by a conversion or by golden point is moot, they had just as much opportunity as the Cowboys to win the game and couldn’t put it away.

Now the dust has settled, Wayne Bennett was right about golden point

I was 4 years old in 1989, which means that whilst I have seen footage of the ’89 GF I don’t have any emotional attachment to it. It’s a game of footy from an era before my time and whilst I’m told that it’s the greatest of all time, what I experienced the other night was it for me. I don’t support either team, but was barracking for the Cowboys (mostly because of JT). To see the game unfold the the way it did is something that will forever stick with me and I’ll no doubt be repeating to anyone who will listen, that in my lifetime the 2015 GF between the Broncos and the Cowboys was the best I’ve experienced.

It was bloody good, but it was still not better than '89

Great article, and as a born and raised NSWelshman, I can say with a completely straight face, GO THE COWBOYS!

Welcome to Sydney, where you're in Cowboys territory

*Slowly stand up*
*Slow Clap, increasing in tempo*
“Here’s to you, The Barry, not necessarily the Hero we wanted, but the Hero we needed”

In all seriousness though, did a Dragons fan write this dribble?

Are the Bulldogs the NRL's new chokers?

Excellent article Dan, and a timely reminder that ref’s are just as highly trained, competitive and prone to slip ups as any of the players. I think you wrote another article earlier this year that touched on the ref’s perspective, and honestly I think we need more. As a League supporter I devour any and every article about my team and subsequent players, so I feel like I almost know them, when they make an on field mistake I blow up momentarily (as they do too) but because im able to see them as real people and not just a faceless jersey I’m quick to get over it. Hoping with more and more articles regarding Ref’s the same could eventually happen for most League fans. Also good choice with the brekky, I panicked there for a second and thought you weren’t going to order either.

The referees are also playing for a grand final spot

Big j, your tin foil hat is a bit snug there old mate.

Predicting the premiers: Is it the Cowboys, Roosters or Dogs?

*Slow Clap*
Bravo, brilliant stuff!
*Stand slowly as continue clapping*

Exclusive: Robbie Farah behind push for his own sacking from Wests Tigers

Fantastic article Dan, especially allowing us into your thought process with the two examples. I know the NRL wants referee’s as a ‘no go zone’ but more articles with ref’s being honest about mistakes and highlighting correct calls (because fans and supporters who call for a ref’s head over a mistake seemingly forget all the stuff that particular Ref gets right…) wouldn’t go astray. Thanks again.

Stewart’s offside try wasn't the first and won’t be the last

This is the dead set funniest thing I’ve read in a long while. Thank you Womblat.

Why is rugby league never happy?

If there is any justice in this world, they’d both be suspended for a short stint but made to referee Junior games as often as possible next season. Everyone is critical of a referee’s job, until you actually have to do it. Pork chops the both of em.

If the allegations are true, the Fifitas should be out for the season

Jay C, was sitting on the hill at Belmore watching when Graham had his “first” talk to the ref, my best mate said “Check out Graham,
he’s got his hands clasped behind his back like a little school boy” Sure enough, there was the worlds largest 10 year old doing his utmost to explain to the teacher why it wasn’t his fault and didn’t you see what the other kid did?

If the allegations are true, the Fifitas should be out for the season

Ref’s would never be asked why they made a certain decision, they will be forever asked why they DIDN’T make a decision. Add to the mix a room full of reporters who sniff blood at a hundred paces, all clamouring to get a ref on tape admitting that he’s responsible for the Team A losing the game in the dying minutes etc… Would achieve nothing, let the refs go out and ref unimpeded, and lift the gag order, last I checked the NRL wasn’t being run by the Kremlin.

Des Hasler was spot-on: Referees should face the media

Although I don’t necessarily agree with your sentiments, congrats on giving voice to a very unpopular opinion. I’ll admit, there is a very small part of me that hopes Ricky and the Raiders come good and silence the haters. Nothing Rugby League loves more than a good underdog and comeback story. Cheers!

Everybody hates Ricky, but why?

If the Doggies are bundled out then I’ll be secretly cheering home the Panthers and Rabbitohs.
Panthers because I can’t help but be impressed by them week after week, they’ve begrudgingly won me over and
the Rabbitohs because I reckon it’ll be good for the league. Don’t know if I can watch the Roosters go back to back, my fiance
is a mad Roosters supporter and both she and the rest of the Roosters supporter base are reaching insufferable levels of
smugness… Haha

So your team's missed the eight: who will you cheer for?

Brilliant article mate, look forward to reading more. As for Uncle Benny, well it just doesn’t feel right watching him coach a team
that isn’t the Broncs. Here’s hoping he returns the Broncos to their best, although given the game last week it’s not far off…

Dear Wayne, heard you're coming back to the Broncos

Excellent sentiments, and I agree 100%. My biggest issue is not that mistakes occur, it’s that they occur far too often.
I think consistency is the biggest issue, it’s one thing if you feel cheated that your team was disallowed a try or penalised for something, it’s entirely another to watch a game 24 hours later and see the same try be awarded or penalty given.
Fingers crossed the NRL can clean this up, consistency is the key.

NRL fans, there is no conspiracy against your club

James,

Cheers mate, appreciate the kind feedback, and having been through it yourself you know how hard it can be. Thanks for reaching out.

As AlanKC said, well written mate, and brave to share about your own experiences, really appreciate it.
