Although I have a broad set of interests, nothing is quite so engaging as sport

Medvedev looked spent about halfway through the second set. Sinner also adjusted his tactics well and wore him down

Chelsea aren’t really part of all this are they? 4 points off 9th (10th counting Everton), 9 points off Euro 3rd division.

I think the best part of this season is the tactical variety. No longer every team trying to copy City (and the ones that are trying seem to be relegation fodder like Burnley). The Brighton, Arsenal, Villa, Tottenham approaches seem to be wanting possession but like to act on it a bit faster. The Villa offside death trap that they use. DycheBall showing that 30% possession is enough to dominate a match.

What the EPL?!: Arsenal top, Liverpool pushing and City ominous - so is this the best EPL season ever?

That makes sense. Victory always look like they will win by 5 in the first half and then get pegged back in the second.

A-League Men fans have no interest in talking about the football

Yeah it’s not a simple answer, but I think the club should work with these fans and give them the space they need, with a bit of self regulation expected in return.

Yeah at the game on the weekend I was telling my wife how the atmosphere used to be so much better. I have been to games in many parts of South America and had as much fun being in the Cove.

I know the AS had toxic elements and it is a fine balance but it was definitely exaggerated by MSM and the a league caved.

I don’t care for the RBB or WSW, but I’d like to have a thriving football comp to follow. imo the active support is the one thing A League has that no other sport has in this country. It should be utilised better.

I was lured out to the WSW game with free tickets for my kids through our local club. The pre game activities and the run out onto the field was all great. But even with them offering this, it wasn’t taken up by too many families.

The only suggestion I would have is the teams need to re-engage with the active support. While the RBB was marching in, the stadium is blaring random music as loud as possible and drowned out the chanting. It almost seemed intentional,

Regarding the football, it was an entertaining match with the goals, but noticeably slow with the heat. I feel sorry for the players. Whenever I watch Victory they look a step ahead of opposition with Marchach and Anzari usually able to generate chances. But they invariably drop off in intensity and let the opposition come back in

Sadly never even been to England. I’m just going by what comes through the broadcast.

The A-League Men needs a lot more games like the Sydney Derby

They should change their name to Campbelltown. Nobody knows what MacArthur means.

Same with Western United. My kids ask me where the teams are from.

Campbelltown crowds for Tigers are rubbish. Even for Pacific internationals they are poor.

I think the area is just a bit lifeless and lacking identity, despite being a breeding ground for talented sports stars

Agree. I’d love to watch SFC even from the 18 yard box, but it’s way overpriced for a low demand ticket.

Another thing (not unique to football) is the cost of merch. My 2 kids both wanted a SFC shirt but I’m not paying $110 each in top of the $150 it cost to go to the game.

Imagine two kids walking around each weekend in A league shirts! Instead they have rip off Messi Argentina shirts, a Neymar Brasil shirt and a Modric Croatia kit at $10 a pop.

EPL crowds are actually pretty quiet nowadays, and can’t match the energy of a good a league active support (tho a league lost most that energy about a decade ago). City and Liverpool are some of most lifeless crowds whenever I watch their games.

They should also learn to just pay the crazy high tax, and not trust dodgy people telling them that it can all be avoided.

Editors at The Roar: “Team, whose turn is it to churn out a code wars article this week?”

Jewel in the crown: Just how much are Socceroos and Matildas worth to the broadcasters?

Yes Everton breached the rules and yes I am a fan, otherwise I wouldn’t go past the headline like most fans.

Fact is the rules changed to include interest on stadium loans, which is unfair and counter logical.

Also the punishment is too harsh. 10 of a maximum 12 points for a 16% breach

How does ownership structure work when a NSL team gets promoted? Isn’t the APL run by the clubs?

Will East Coast-based National Second Tier sink or swim?

How does that work? There is no way another 40k could fit in there.

CHAMPIONS! Head's heroic ton, bowling brilliance sees Aussies crush India for SIXTH - and best - World Cup win

I tend to agree. I think they went there expecting an inevitable win, but they became lifeless – almost contributing to the stifling atmosphere that the Aussie’s created in the first innings. Also the quietest 100k+ applause for Heads century

The punishment doesn’t fit the crime. It is unashamedly an attempt to make an example of an easy target club to avoid government regulation for a competition that is increasingly at the behest of dodgy money.

Everton went 19.5m over a 120threshold, during COVID which impacted their ability to meet spending plans – eg unable to sell Tosun to Turkey due to a pause in transfers.

The breach was mainly driven by a change in rules which meant infrastructure costs were factored in, so the stadium which had just started construction became a problem. Everton mentioned this at the time and have worked to resolve their finances. All the big spending has stopped and they have shed players often forced to do so in a rush to abide the stricter rulings.

Despite this, they are given a footballing punishment, for a financial breach, and it is 10 points, more than Portsmouth got for going into administration.

EPL also doing nothing about about man city having 115 charges (Everton have 1), or Chelsea also having issues.

It was an independent commission but PL is in the media recommending 12 point deduction while the ruling is still going on.

The EPL is a joke

My first thought was it was the managers fault. He left Nestory on when he was on the yellow and copping it from the crowd and players. Perhaps long term it is a good lesson for a young player, but short term the manager could have avoided this.

Sorry Adelaide fans, but Nestory Irankunda deserved to be sent off

Despite the World Cup being a hotter ticket it was about half the price of an a-league ticket on my two family trips to the football this year.

Also the a league should just move to a winter sport. It’s too hot to play soccer while the sun is up, and getting home at 12 midnight with 3 kids under 12 is not ideal family experience.

If the Matildas can draw sell-out crowds, why can't the A-League Men?

Bit of an unnecessary dig at Everton at the end. They outplayed west ham on tactics and execution and won second game in London in a row.
Not all clubs are blessed with the financial and media support of the ‘Big 6’. EPL is slowly becoming more like the continent leagues with the constant bias to the same few clubs, and you can see how the bottom 3 are almost cannon fodder.

What the EPL?!: United and Chelsea are a rabble - and their crisis comes at the perfect time for Ange’s Spurs

I agree. Every second ball is like a gamble for a wicket. Going for lbw too often, full too often, short too often. It plays into what bazball wants.
