That doesn’t solve the problem if a 10% owner is not paying up when the other 90% are.

Kennett nails issue but smashes thumb with solution

While they may be good with horses, most trainers are terrible businessmen. There are quite a lot of trainers which have been banned by Inglis and Magic Millions from bidding at sales because they bought horses and werent able to sell them. When this happens, the sales company have to reposses the horses and auction them again. They always go for a lesser price so feel for the breeders!

You never know which will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. On the cricket theme, Jonathon Trott and Graeme Swann have just retired, both contributing depression as one of their reasons. Professional sport is a pressure cooker environment and money doesn’t buy happiness.

Punters must stop using social media to abuse jockeys

The Goodwood would be a great race for him and he’d be good enough to carry top weight. The field is very average and he is much better suited to 1200m than the 1400 he faces in the Stradbroke.

Stuck in purgatory, Buffering must look to Perth and Adelaide for Group 1 win

It’s great to see Oli back riding. Whoever he rides in the Melbourne Cup – back them. This guy is all about fairytales and redemption.

Damien Oliver vs Jim Cassidy: the race to 100 Group 1s

The Spring Champion Stakes has been moved to be run on the same day as the Caulfield Guineas. I like this move because it gives the 3yos a two week break before the Cox Plate and punters can bet with assurance that the 3yos can run out 2000m. If Atlantic Jewel or Puissance De Lune get beaten, it will be by a 3yo.

Why Atlantic Jewel is no lock for the Cox Plate

Black Caviar’s record will never be beaten. Not in our lifetime at least. It’s also hardly a negative article. There are so many things that can go wrong in a horse race and he just outlined them. Antipost markets are absolute rubbish and the bookies love them because there are so many mug punters out there who think they can beat the system by finding value.

Why Atlantic Jewel is no lock for the Cox Plate

The emergence of Chad Schofield should get a mention. Had he not been suspended for so long, he would have won both Melbourne and Sydney apprentice championships and given Bossy a real crack in in the Victorian premiership. A lot of people seem to forget how young he is.

The best of the best: Racing's finest moments from 2012/13

I keep records of all my punting and my record on Geelong’s synthetic is almost the worst. Keep the turf. It’s consistant and form makes much more sense.

Synthetic surface should be considered at Flemington

Hawkspur will be a star! I have some money on him at $261 to win the Melbourne Cup on Betfair.

Horses to follow for spring (part 1)

Eurozone can’t cover the distance of the Cox Plate. If I were managing the horse, I’d take him to the Run to the Rose, Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas. i get the feeling Bart didn’t know how good this horse was when he scheduled his campaign.

First taste of spring puts a hurdler in majors spotlight

Australia’s obsession with Bart Cummings is unhealthy and this article is the perfect example of it. Every year, Ray and the handicappers treat Bart’s horses as if they are on a pedistal and go to every extent to maximise the amount of runners Bart has in the big one. Reading this article, it sounds like the author doesn’t think Bart has any chance in this years Cup but still wrote an article about his non-chances.
The Melbourne Cup is much bigger than Bart Cummings and his horses are always overrated.

Bart Cummings to saddle up once more

I feel your pain. I am a world class expert in selecting the horse which will run fourth.

Feelgood stories of the local racing season

Paul Roos is overrated. He has no idea about anything that goes on outside of Sydney. When he commentates for Fox Sports, he only knows how to talk about what worked for him and he talks about how teams need to play more Sydney-type football. This is the guy who genuinely thinks Mike Pyke is a lock for the All Australian ruck position.

Is Paul Roos still the best coach on the market?

All parties have accepted that the girl made a mistake and she apologised. Goodesy has asked us to respect her privacy and we should. End of conversation. Rather than telling people like us (internet users who know what racism is), go out to the schools and send the message.

Zero sympathy for racism

+1

Indigenous round marred by shocking racial slur

Adam Goodes has handled the matter in the most professional manner and should be applauded. He made a stance on the ground by singling out the girl without making a big deal about it. 99% of the frenzy has been contrived by the media.

Speaking to the media this morning, there was no bitterness in Goodes who feels for the girl who has been crucified by the public.

An absolute class act Mr Goodes.

Indigenous round marred by shocking racial slur

Quite a political topic for what is normally on The Roar. If it were to happen, the recommendation would have to come from government because the AFL do not want to get involved in politics. Verbal abuse has been happening at the football ever since it started and while it has become a little more tame over the years, the AFL have never condemned it. Rather, they condemn “anti-social behavior”. Just about anything can be considered anti-social behavior but when we”re dealing with millions of people who will be become subject to a ‘rule’ of the AFL, it becomes a murky area. I’d imagine the AFL would rather some sort of law be passed to absolve themselves of any responsibility when it comes to interpretation of rules/laws. The upcoming conscious vote will be interesting but unfortunately it will have little to zero impact on legislative reform with an imminent change in government and Tony Abbott refusing to budge on his overtly conservative views.

Should the AFL ban homophobic fans?

The Pies will be fine. They won a flag with Swan less controlled than he is today and by the looks of it, he’s just setting himself up for a post-football career. Now, whether or ot he has the smarts for a position in the media is debatable but he sounds pretty intent on this being his final playing contract which finishes at the end of next season. Yes, he’s a distraction but every club has one.

Is Dane Swan too much of a distraction at Collingwood?

Nice article Alfred but I think you ommitted the fact that Payne, Walker and Darmanin placed their bets in 2011 before the whole “zero tolerance” message was preached. All of their actions occured prior to the Damien Oliver ruling so retrospectivly, they were allowed tollerance 😛 Nonetheless, as you and Andrew have mentioned, the sanctions send ambiguous messages to the rest of the racing community. I think it’s also important for a national body to govern Australian racing in the future. Splitting the jurisdiction between States detracts from any application of consistancy.

Racing Victoria must punish jockeys who place illegal bets

The only thing more overrated than Tim Tebow is a commitment from Kim Kardashian.

Tim Tebow, team dinner on you!

The Jags have one of the top five running backs in the league in MJD. Even if Gabbert stinks, MJD is coming off two 1300yd rushing seasons and only 26 years old. Gabbert only needs to throw 200 yards a game and master the screen for the Jags to contend for playoffs.

MJD makes things happen. He’s been doing it with a very average QB in Garrard there and Gabbert doesn’t need to post 300yd games for the Jags to win. They will win 8 games this season again, but the development of Gabbert will give them a chance at 10+ next year. MJD is contracted till the end of next season and it would be more appealing for him to sign with Gabbert as starter than Garrard. It was a good calculated football move by the franchise.

Releasing David Garrard a mistake in hindsight

These two have one-uped the Sydney-West Coast rivalry. You can never discount Geelong because they just go through small bursts where they can pile on multiple goals in five minutes. If there was an intensity stat for goals scored in five minute bursts, I have no doubt Geelong would be leading the competition. If they Hawks are to win, they will need to go into the forth quarter with a four goal lead minimum.

Geelong and Hawks set for a great contest

No Harry Kewell or Tommy Oar?

Socceroos squad for World Cup qualifiers announced

No chance Watts will be traded. That’s a guarantee. Watts moving up the ground has been beneficial for him. Although he has not kicked goals or taken contested marks, he has been using the ball really well when he pushes up the ground. If the new coach pushes the Matthew Richardson model of a tall winger capable of running the game out like Watts can, he will still be able to prove his worth as a number one pick. Richo almost won a Brownlow doing it.

Watts is not an issue. It’s whats around him that is. Liam Jurrah is too small to hold the key forward post and you cannot expect him to go for hangers every time the ball gets pumped inside 50. I would really like to see Stefan Martin moved forward and play Max Gawn as the second ruckman.

As Handles O Love said, good to see you not recommend Garry Lyon or Viney take over. The Dees need some successful experience and I don’t think Garry has coached anything higher than his sons under 16 team.
