What both deals show is just how important NSW is to the AFL. NRL is only played and popular in NSW and QLD, table tennis is bigger everywhere else, yet to pull in close to $1bn for two states is impressive. The AFL guys will be thinking a much bigger rights deal if they can really grab a big market share in these two states. But can they get more interest and followers?.. the GWS are on the right track now, where as the Swans just treaded water for 30 years, anyway getting side tracked…

A declining NRL on the other hand means this is the ‘peak rights’ deal for them.

Amazing. Only country on earth where people take to chat rooms to slate other codes. We should be celebrating the fact that a small country has a thriving indigenous football code not pulling to down because it’s not a major international sport. How boring the world would be if eveyone followed one sport. Those who like ther McDonald and Starubucks might but sporting diversity is surely a good thing
