What’s NSW got to do with QLD crowds though, why not compare the Lions crowds to the 3 NRL sides in QLD?

Gold Coast Suns a success no matter what

Leave both codes there.

Why can’t we continue to have two Rugby codes?

It’s worked for the last 115 years and I see no reason to change it now.

How League and Union should merge

Ian said | Today | Report comment

Currently the AFL is protected species in Melbourne with other sports hoarded by bias media into the wee small hours.

I look forward to when the AFL is televised at the same time as other quality sports (Union, Rugby League and Soccer).

Only then will we see how fragile this code is. One only has to look at ratings outside of the Barassi Line (where such competition exists) to see it ain’t the “greatest game in the world”.

Absolutely Ian, I agree 100%.

Can Aussie Rules really rule the world?

Agreed. For the moment, I view Papua New Guinea as the premier nation for the sport of Australian Rules Football. Rugby League must be getting nervous…

ps: how do you do smiley faces?!?!

lol mate, I wish I could post pics here and show you the support RL gets in PNG compared to AFL, stop talking nonsense.

I’ve never heard the PNG or Australian Government talking about putting a PNG side into the AFL comp, but there’s plenty of news out there about RL and both governments.

RL being scared of AFL anywhere is pretty funny.

Best post on the roar in years.

Can Aussie Rules really rule the world?

Melbourne was getting a RL club regardless of the SL war redb, you’re an AFL fan, I wouldn’t expect you to know the history of RL.

The then ARL had the choice of 2 Vic teams, but the war started and it was put on the back burner until Rupert dragged it forward.

Panthers are proof GWS venture high risk

Parramatta are the second most watched club team in Australia out of all the codes on TV, they had a pathetic year on the pitch and still managed over 17,000 average in a 20,000 seat stadium.

When the Eels are going well for a few seasons, their crowds jump up massively, it’s only these days with an all seater stadium that they can’t get the big crowds in there that they used too.

But this is changing as they are starting to take bigger games to ANZ stadium.

Last year in the prelim final, 76,000 turned up to see the eels v the dogs and most will say the crowd leaned more towards the eels fans for support.

You are right about Penrith, but they do have support, when they won the premiership last, their crowd average was over 17k.

Manly, well you love them or hate them, what is holding them back is their stadium, it’s garbage, but the blue bloods do have a big supporter base when they can be bothered.

Cronulla, well the less said the better, when they are going well, shark park gets filled to the brim, when they are hopeless like now, they suffer more than most other Sydney clubs.

As for the new AFL team, it’s going to struggle imo and it could take the Swans down with them.

Panthers are proof GWS venture high risk

I don’t see anything wrong with it at all, Union writers can write what they like about League and nothings said, just ask spiro, Rollo Manning, Peter Fitz and Stephen Jones.

It’s his opinion, and I happen to agree with him for the first time.

Mark Latham puts the boot into rugby union

Fussball ist unser leben, nice stats on the Titans, yet you seemed to have missed a few facts.

1, The first season as you say had great crowds yet they are down on them now. Well I guess when they played their first game at Suncorp Stadium in front of 50k, it was always going to fall the following seasons because their new stadium is half the capacity huh?

You also have to take in the fact that they were part of a double header as well and they got a smaller crowd for that at Suncorp than they would’ve got at home seeing as both home teams didn’t get 40 odd k each put on their stats for hosting the matches, they were halved.

2. They are the most expensive club in the country to go and watch, someone has to pay for the stadium don’t they, and United aren’t bringing them in by the thousands to help out?

3. When they first game in, they had no Monday Nights matches, and every code struggles in regards to crowds on a week night.

4. This season, they had games kicking off at 12pm at the start of the season because of the heat, these crowds were low for the Titans compared to other time slots as some people who work all week like to sleep in, take their kids to sports that they play or have to fit in shopping as it may be the only time they can get to the shops because of said work.

The Titans crowds are fine.

As for Nth QLD, well I guess being around the wooden spoon for a few seasons will turn people off, if they have a better season next year, their crowds will head north again as usual.

Will you then turn around and put the stats in to say they are growing, or will you ignore it and have a shot as some other RL club, you know, passing the buck and deflecting your sports problems on to another?

Cheers 13.

Gold Coast United are A-League's biggest mistake

2,038 at the gold coast game, wth is going on?

Mariners will smack the Gold Coast

Yes I did read the whole thing, I mentioned what I only wanted to mention, why have you got a problem with that?

What about our Wallaroos?

A Lot of people have noticed that Rugby Union gets discussed here more than any other sport for some reason, if someone from outside Australia looked at the site, I’m sure they’d think it was the dominant code.

I sometimes think that’s the whole purpose of the Roar.

What about our Wallaroos?

King, the NRL gets the second biggest crowds in Australia behind the AFL.

No other code gets close to the AFL or NRL.

We had 75,000 at the same game last year, I don’t see any reason why this game can’t do as well.

When the season is over, RL will have had the Biggest crowds in QLD, NSW and the ACT while the AFL will have the other States.

A League will not, and the Union hasn’t and its season is over, so I don’t know what you are going on about.

ANZ Stadium will be scene of epic battle

No, I don’t want him at my club thanks.

Orford could be the answer to Eels' woes

macavity, I agree 100% with that.

Just how will Team GWS go in 2012?

I’m opposite to you oikee, i’ve always loved the Internationals and wanted more from a young age.

My old man used to get me up in the middle of the night (even school nights) to watch the old Kangaroo tours when they played GB, Wales, France and a heap of club sides.

I’d rather watch an international over SOO any time.

Grow the game damnit.

International rugby league at a crossroads

I agree with a lot of that dopey.

But the game is growing in other places.

If we can get the French back up to a decent standard, things will improve quickly.

International rugby league at a crossroads

Cheers mate

(even if you follow that other code 😉 )

International rugby league at a crossroads

Yeah all gold with no blue oikee 🙁

International rugby league at a crossroads

International rugby league at a crossroads

St Merge eh?

Choka choka choka choka toot toot.

All aboard 🙂

Is 2010 really the year of the Dragon?

Maybe, should be fun to see anyway.

Pity Eric Grothe jnr isn’t running, now that guy can motor for a big fella.

I was thinking before, if they give the Bolt a footy to hold, they could put Hindmarsh in and see if he makes it to the end before being tackled, the guy never gives up 🙂

International rugby league at a crossroads

Wasn’t a full house cause the mighty eels are gorrrrrne.

International rugby league at a crossroads

Couple of pubs at once eh cookie?

Well done sir, you’re a champion.

International rugby league at a crossroads

I know that, but why do you think they are where they are?

Think very hard King 😉

International rugby league at a crossroads
