looks like Waterboy’s valid comments on this article were removed. nice on The Roar. pat on the back for free speech and open discussions

Does the Adam Goodes drama expose a racist underbelly in Australia?

why is The Roar censoring and removing perfectly good opinions on this article? If we want to have a fair balanced and vibrant discussion, we can’t have voices silenced.

but for a 13 yr old kid, a dark fella with a beard would look somewhat similar to a an ape.
just as a fat white bald man would look similar to a pig.

I think we need to step back and blame the theory of evolution for racism. Where “whites” can feel superior to “blacks” simply because of colour of skin and the fact that “blacks” get offended if they are referred to as apes or monkeys comes back to the UNTRUE notion that we humans “evolved” from the apes.
Therefore if you believe in the theory of evolution, when you call a black person an ape, you are actually making the statement that they have not developed in the evolution of the species as you white folk.

can we see now how wrong ideas and thinking can be so damaging? unfortunately don’t expect this to stop. they teach this gibberish in your science subjects and your brainwashed children lap it up at school.

haha i remember Buckley would always win the annual Most Hated Player awards. i think it’s mainly to do with his strange looking nose

another idea is to play a 23-game season made out of

Rounds 1-17 every team plays each other once

Rounds 18-23 determined by random selection with “pre-requisites”
clubs are divided into 3 groups based on previous season ladder (1-6, 7-12, 13-18)
and teams play 2 games against 2 teams from every group. Total of 6 games to be played. this ensures every club plays a fair quota of strong, average, and weak teams.
the “pre-requisites” are your derbies. the fixture computer will ensure a second derby match is played. For example, Port Adelaide finished in the 1-6 group last year, Adelaide finished in the middele group (7-12). Because Port Adelaide has to play 2 teams from the midddle group (7-12), the computer will give first preference to selecting Adelaide as 1 of the 2 teams it has to play from the middle group. easy as.
of course, these 6 matches will be fixtured in reverse from the first encounter earlier in the season.

Gillon's got it backwards, the AFL needs a 5-17 fixture

i wrote this a few years ago on here, still think it’s the best and fairest model:

if the AFL wants to ensure the fairest and even playing field for all 18 clubs in the competition, it would do well to restructure the home and away season.
The format I would advocate would be a 21-game season consisting of:

1. 17 home and away matches against every other team in the league.
(obviously for the sake of fairness, the fixture computer will ensure clubs don’t for example travel away to perth twice a year)

2. 1 match to be designated ‘rivalry round’ to ensure derbies are played twice a year.

3. 3 more ‘second time’ matches to be determined by RANDOM selection from ‘zones.’
Clubs are divided into three zones determined by finishing position from the previous season (1-6, 7-12, 13-18). Every team simply plays three teams from the three zones to complete a 21-match fixture. obviously, these matches will be in reverse second time around (eg, if Sydney played Hawthorn at home in the first match (Round 1-17), they will be the AWAY team for the second match.

Strayans all let us rejoice for we will no longer have to suffer through the torture of dull dour dogged dispair dimwit football dished up by previous coaches. Strayans let us rejoice at no more 0 shots at goal in 90 mins, let us rejoice that players who can’t control a ball or pass a ball no longer will be tolerated, let us rejoice that we will now try to pass the ball, aggressive pressing, fast tempo, high intensity football. Strayans all let us rejoice that the bus will no longer be parked in our penalty box. Strayans let us all rejoice for we will now be brave and attack teams and try to control the ball and win matches of football!!!!

Ange Postecoglou's appointment is the good news Australian football was waiting for

happiest i’ve been as a socceroo fan in many years. I trust that Ange’s socceroos will not park the bus in cowardly retreat but instead will press agressively, play with a fast-tempo, high intensity, play a strong courageous possession based passing football, creating many chances, shots at goal and plenty of action around the attacking penalty box.
Ange will re-ignite the love we Strayans had for our beloved national team and we will all be beaming with pride in front of the world because Ange will give us back the Socceroos we all cherished, the one who will not be timid and afraid, but will be brave and play FOOTBALL. Thank you FFA thank you Ange. Strayans all let us rejoice

I agree with 99% of the article except the bit about Brett Holman. Under two managers who happened to be our most dull dour and hapless coaches ever (Pim & Holger), Brett Holman has been central to the mess we are in. Quite simply, when our most important position on the pitch in terms of creating attacking plays is given to a mediocre, headless chook with very little technical ability, poor touch, poor vision, poor passing and zero creativity, you know you are doomed.
I hope our Socceroos revolution starts by discarding players who have very little technical ability because we are forever limited by their deficiencies. And this starts with never picking Brett Holman ever again for the national team

Time for Socceroos to begin the revolution

Arsene would be fantastic manager. I love how his Arsenal teams play beautiful football. Unfortunately he loves his club job too much and is getting paid too much to give it away

FFA should make a pitch for Arsene Wenger

thank you David Gallop. now give us a Manager who will cut off the deadwood and actually pick players with techncial ability, skills and talent

BREAKING: Holger Osieck sacked as coach of Socceroos

I’m not upset at losing to Brazil and France. But to register a grand total of ZERO shots on target in both matches is an absolute disgrace. 180 minutes and we fail to give their goalkeepers any sort of work to do??? how does that happen.
I know we are not world class. but we are much better than this.

Socceroos fans must be realistic in wake of Osieck sacking

I could’ve gotten the Socceroos through Asian Qualification. How hard must it be to be just a little bit better than Jordan, Oman, Saudi, Iraq, Qatar, Thailand, etc
Pim’s and Holger’s “acheivements” of qualifying for the World Cup through Asia is overhyped.

Socceroos vs France: International football live scores, blog

i’d like to add Brosque, Holman, Jedinak, Cornflakes, Kennedy to the list. just simply not good enough for international football.

BREAKING: Holger Osieck sacked as coach of Socceroos

Gus will ship out the deadwood and demand a higher level from the players. he will not be afraid to cut anyone who he considers past-it or not good enough

BREAKING: Holger Osieck sacked as coach of Socceroos

hard to blame Mitch for any of the 6 goals conceded. Schwarzer at his peak would’ve probably conceded all 6 also. Mitch to his credit came out in the second half with a string of fantastic saves and excellentr goalkeeping

BREAKING: Holger Osieck sacked as coach of Socceroos

i don’t think that is really the point. His failure to develop any sort of cohesion, effective game plan/tactics from the 3 or so years in charge of the socceroos has shown that he is just not up to it. 3 years of work and in the matches against Brazil and France has shown he has no clue how to set us up to even be half-competitive. I am not upset at losing but getting severely outplayed, little intensity or fight, little sign of tactical work, the fact that in these 2 games we registered a total of 0 shots on target in 180 minutes is utterly damming.

Mumford and Kennedy for Buddy sounds fair

BREAKING: Lance Franklin set to join Sydney Swans

great news for the WSW

Should the A-League salary cap be modified?

I don’t see any problem with this. for all the Victorian clubs having an almighty sook, there is nothing stopping them from pinching players from the Swans. If $2 million of the cap every season is being spent on two players, i’m guessing there’s 40 or so players on the list who are being paid peanuts.
There is absolutely nothing stopping other teams from raiding the Swans and offering bigger money for the likes of Hannebury, Jack, Sam Reid, Jessie White, Josh Kennedy etc

A-League football is here in a couple of weeks can’t wait!!!

How to deal with the end of AFL season blues - and predictions for 2014

the starting lineup is determined by how you want to approach the game. Sadly under Holger’s reign, we look like we are happy to surrender possession, drop off and camp around our penalty box. On the rare times we have the ball we like to pop it long to a Cahill to do something miraculous with it. Players like Cahill and Kennedy are essentially useless if you want to play a counter attacking game. If we are going to drop off and sit back and attack on the counter, the likes of Archie, Kruse, Oar, Leckie, Rukyvitsa all become important.

My wish for our national team was always we would try to keep the ball and control possession and play the game in our attacking half. That style of football requires bravery, technical ability of players to keep the ball and tactical awareness to create space and passing options. We do have the players to play this way (Bresciano, Nicky Carle, Oar, Kruse, Rogic) but sadly I don’t think we have an adventurous enough coach in charge.

lol. woke up with egg on my face

Time to expand AFL Finals to ten teams

correction: “Once we reach the finals, the top six clubs are all guaranteed at least one home final each”
actually, the top 8 clubs are all guaranteed a home final (Week 1 teams 3,4 and 7,8 have home finals. The 5th and 6th teams will host home finals in week 2 if they lose in week 1. Win in week 1 and they will host a final somewhere in Week 3 or 4 depending on results.
