a spicy fire cracker from the wrong side of the tracks

the media seemed all to keen to have the Fifita brothers made out to be another case of footy players misbehaving. much like everybody else i have no idea what happened so they may well be completely guilty who knows, but i’m surprised anybody has yet to come out explaining what they were doing at the game in the first place.

as far as i can tell they were both there involved in junior rugby league, the whole incident occured as D Fifita was helping an injured player off the field, it sounds like the actions of players giving back to game, not a crazed footy yobbos out picking fights with junior refs for fun. is it just me?

Andrew Fifita deserves $50k fine and four-week suspension: Gallen

have to echo everybody on here, Dugan was a liability. great try did not much else. the old “don’t change a winning formula” will stop Hoppa from getting dropped but surely Tupou offers more than simply being solid / not making a mistake.

my question on Jennings, was last night the first time in his Origin career NSW have spread the ball his way? i seriously cannot recall him ever getting the ball at speed, the last few years they’ve only kicked (poorly) towards the left

i guess you can say it saved LeBron the embarrassment of having to be given the award in front of the celebrating Warriors??

i could not agree any more with this comment. i couldn’t care less either way about Tinkler but he has been absolutely hammered by the herald, whether related to his mining / business / political / ownership interests, for years.

it’s obvious he’s not that interested in football or the jets, but on advice of his GM / management every year he’s changed coach, bought new young players, brought old players back whatever and no matter what’s happened at the first sign of trouble Tinkler the villian gets his turn on the front / back page

i take it from this article you have Le’Veon Bell on your fantasy roster??

Ashes: Australia's squad for first Test against England announced

i have to agree. i find the problem with the socceroos is very similar to that of the australian cricket team. in cricket we are too afraid of having a bad ashes result every 2 years and keep the old timers around too long / don’t give the up and comers enough opportunities to develop and the team stalls and we end up in the position we are in now (and we get the bad result anyway). the way the socceroos have been picked over recent years, we always have world cup or asian cup qualifiers and then the finals to follow every two years, so we are always reverting back to the tried and tested “golden generation” survivors to get the job done.

Hopefully whoever is selected to be the next coach of the socceroos gets the MO of rejuvenating the side rather than “qualify for world cup”. i feel like this was a lot of the problem that holger had, and pim verbeek before him, he was only there to qualify for the world cup and there was no focus on developing the team for the future. With any luck Ange will get the gig and do a Brisbane Roar job on the socceroos. Get the team playing a good style of football with young, dynamic players who are there on ability and form rather than they were the best we had 10 years ago and are still doing a decent job so we might as well keep them in

It’s time for Australia to move on from the 'Golden Generation'

I’m glad you wrote maybe not the best suggestion there Chad I nearly died when I read the bit about Mark Nicolas.. SBS has someone who fits that mould, Matt Keenan, he normally does the lead in commentary on the coverage while, I assume, Phil and Paul are off getting their tea ready and Paul is making sure Phil’s lap blanket is in place for the afternoons commentary. Matt Keenan (@mwkeenan) is very good value, but I’m just not sure how having an extra man in the booth would effect the dynamic.

I think Phil and Paul are part of what makes the tour coverage so special, I’d hate to think there are people out there who look at them as similar to the past their prime channel 9 cricket commentators (as an example).

Tour de France commentary simply isn't good enough

I thought this must have been a troll article until I read the first line “Since I first began watching cycling from the 2011 Tour de France..” You can’t be serious right?? In terms of sheer breadth of knowledge the tour commentators are amazing, I can’t help but be impressed as they cross from all the riders, teams, team managers etc to knowledge on the town / chateau / river they’re passing, sure they would have massively extensive cheat sheets but it’s mightily impressive.

And as for the Tony Martin slip, they corrected that within a minute of saying it, with all the other things they took about I think you can excuse a slip of the tongue like that. Second world championships and second in world championships aren’t too dissimilar sentences on the fly..

Phil and Paul are legends.. you are kidding yourself

Tour de France commentary simply isn't good enough

I would really like him to win at Pipe and claim the title in doing so, not that he would care but it’s not quite the same winning the title without winning any events all year..

a surfer of his talent definitely deserves to have a world title on his cv, i hope he gets it

Burrow wins the O'Neill Coldwater Classic

i think it goes without saying that the post heat interviews conducted by sage erickson and malia manuel were incredible as well.

Fortunately we’re going to be treated to a couple of the games you mentioned on free to air tv tomrrow, Steelers @ Giants and Cowboys @ Falcons. I think the Falcons are a safe bet to improve to 8-0, personally I’m hoping Matty Ice throws the ball in White’s direction as my fantasy team could do with the boost. In the other game we have televised the Bears will most certainly tear the Titans a new one.

I think there’ll be quite a few eyes on the Lions and Jaguars game, Matt Stafford showed some glimpses of last years form last week and I think people will be watching to see if he and Megatron can finally get it going against a pretty poor Jaguars D.

NFL week nine: match-ups to watch

You just might get your wish mate he just won the trials.. He’ll be in the first round with either Kelly (and Kolohe) or Parko (and Damo), it’s non-elimination but definitely not ideal for whichever of them ends up with him.

The O’Neill Coldwater Classic preview

But all of those have been end of season with nothing to lose, he is a sick surfer and i really hope he wins, i’m just a little worried about how he will cope with the pressure.. I’m cheering for him.

i don’t see John John missing the triple crown this year just as a further 2c

The O’Neill Coldwater Classic preview

He’s definitely due, it really hasn’t been his 2012 so far.. Hopefully the waves suit his unique not really offering much worthwhile in any conditions brand of surfing

The O’Neill Coldwater Classic preview

As good as it would be to see big Parko win here and all but seal his first world title I really don’t see it happening. I don’t think he quite has the winning mentality compared with say Kelly or Mick, I think one or both of those guys will force a result and put all the pressure back on to Parko at Pipe and watch him crumble. Or not, hopefully he proves me wrong
