Passionate Richmond supporter. Consistently disappointed Aston Villa and Melbourne City fan. Born in the UK, follow most sports but love cricket more than anything else.

Sounds ridiculous considering Haseeb Hameed has been pretty average in this seasons County Championship but he did dig in while in India so maybe England give him a go in the upcoming series against the West Indies? Surely the main objective of the WI series will be to sort out their batting order while keeping as many players fit, fresh and in-form leading up to the Ashes.

Really not sure who else could open with Cook, Westley should be pencilled in at three for the trip down under but needs to convert some impressive starts between now and then. As the comments above have mentioned, wouldn’t mind seeing Stoneman getting a go.

Anyway, that’s what makes it so fun right, no one has a clue as what to expect!

England's series victory can't hide batting problems

I agree that Agar is the obvious choice, however would love to see an Aussie leggie given a go but Agar is the best option and more likely to deliver.

Agar over Swepson for Bangladesh Tests

Yay! Excited for The Ashes now, but also good for grassroots considering the state of the sport at the moment. Although, both parties do need to do a fair bit of work to rebuild the respect from consumers – mainly fans.

Cricket fans, rejoice: Pay dispute over, Bangladesh tour (and Ashes) set to go ahead

All a bit ridiculous really and the chances of another Leicester City underdog story in the EPL gets smaller each year as only the big five or six clubs can compete. No hope for the others really, and as an Aston Villa fan, will never get to see the club I support re-live their glory days all because of money. Championship sides have no hope, genuinely feel for this supporters who put so much time and effort into the smaller clubs that actually share a passion for the game, not as a business. The EPL does the whole transfer business all wrong and is ruining it for so many.

The Premier League has more money than sense

Frustrates me that so many so-called fans claim that England’s openers are too slow. That’s exactly what was needed in the last innings but obviously it didn’t work out.
As you say Alec, five days. T20 really is destroying the purist form of the game. People don’t seem to appreciate the tactics and style of test cricket these days, but crazy how a couple of weeks changes everything in sport. After the first test, England were “great”, now their “shocking”.
England’s attempt to become world beaters in T20 and ODI cricket has been reasonably successful without trophies but has lead to weaknesses that suggest a big challenge is ahead if England want to re-discover their destructive test cricket form.

It isn't a crime to take your time

England really need to sort out a key spinner, the option of Dawson just isn’t working. Not sure who, but someone else as Dawson just isn’t showing much with the ball and it will be even harder on Australian pitches. Moeen is fine as an all-rounder, but for a specialist it needs to be someone else. Apart from that, bowling is fine in my opinion but the top three need sorting out soon. Jennings and Cook COULD be the go but not certain yet. Just feel that Ballance isn’t right but happy to see how he goes for the rest of the English summer. Can’t believe how quick people have turned on Root and the team after the loss in the second test against SA. England were good the first test, off this one – that’s just sport. Anyway, hopefully bring on The Ashes if CA $$$ can get fixed!

Proteas exposing England's Ashes frailties

The Rebels didn’t help themselves with so many mistakes, but wow the Highlanders were clinical in defence and took advantage of any mistake made by Melbourne.

Can see the gap in class between the teams.

Felt nervy whenever Rebels had the ball, and I think the crowd was the same. Tough night, hopefully it’s a learning kerb and they can bounce back.

Credit to the crowd, both groups of supporters, and despite the result I thought the atmosphere was pretty good considering there was AFL on today!

City are doing everything they can NOT to win…

Is there a genuine favourite to win the A-League premiership?

Quite looking forward to this, more for the fact that I live in Healesville and aren’t working tomorrow!
As stated, Froome probably won’t push himself, more training than anything, so expect someone else to take the overall winners jersey at the end. Bobridge probably could be favourite as long as he stays out of trouble and gets through unscathed.
Looking forward particularly to the Chum Creek Road ascent and Toolangi descent, great road to ride a bike. Would be even better closed! Just pumped for some exposure for the Yarra Valley through a sporting event rather than the ‘normal’ food/wine tourism.

Froome, Ewan and Bobridge headline for Herald Sun Tour

The HAL is a bit of an under-rated league when discussing the physicality of it in my opinion. Retre has certainly come along in leaps and bounds but I don’t think he should play at either LB or RB, like you said – a defensive role.

Clisby has improved but I still see him as a depth/squad player, not consistent enough for my liking but I am being a bit harsh. He has shown he is determined and dedicated for the team, something other players could learn a thing or two about.

Well I don’t even know what to say about, or where to start with Koren! Ex- Hull City player says enough really?! Very disappointing and hopefully he is released so we can get an attacking midfielder as our marquee to fill Mooy’s spot when he leaves. Only good thing he (Koren) ever did was score a hat-trick against the Jets.

Fornaroli's form could drive City to silverware

Spot on Stevo, Sorenson has had to save us too many times this season. Chapman is a big out, him and Kisnorbo seemed like a good CB combination but I personally think our full backs are the problem.

Do need Franjic back, that will help but not sold on Garrucio or Clisby. I personally like Zullo there but he may be a bit too attacking.

I’ve loved watching El Tuna this season, and I think you are correct with trying to get more players like him. Hopefully he will stick around and at least win the Golden Boot for the league this season.
