Why is it that Channels 7 and 9 have deliberately relinquished their ability to broadcast sport in HD? Since they both rebranded their HD channels from 7 HD and 9 HD to 7mate and Gem, they have decided not to broadcast their major sporting events in high definition anymore.

The AFL Grand Final replay was in standard definition only, as is the current Ashes series – today Gem was broadcasting an Omar Sharif movie instead!

I watch most of my sport through Foxtel on cable and the old HD channels are no longer available, instead we get a diet of Knight Rider and The Rockford Files, which, although occasionally awesome, are no substitute and do not gain whatsoever from HD broadcasting.

I’ve also tried reverting to the digital TV menu but no dice, it’s still standard def where it was high def before.

Seriously, is this why they invested in these extra channels? 70′s reruns?
