Yes, the levels of commitment, planning, passion. Episode 4 was the best scrum ode I’ve ever seen.

Australia can be back in the SFs, be in the top 4 rankings, beat the Lions, go 3-1 on EOYTs regularly, and make the winner of the Bledisloe a mystery again. That’ll do. Let the Boks keep winning the Cup! 😂

I felt like QLD would just slap all of it on a long buffet in the backyard and slide along it with a garden hose, slurping and snorting it up whilst neighing like horses?

I’d hardly suspect Franco Mostert, PSDT, Vermeulen, Kitshoff, Malherbe, and Wiese as being gym cheats! Several other teams in world rugby look mysteriously jacked, juiced and vascular. Boks are mostly adverse to heavy lifting or obsession with leaning out.

This is my sense, too, because the top clubs have really good scouting teams (e.g. Manny Meafou, Mack Hansen, Angus Scott-Young) who see raw potential better than a lot of the SRP do. Put them in a camp for 4 weeks and go head to head w WBs and I bet it shocks people.

Thanks for commenting. To be fair, I’m not using this article to claim there is separation between SA and Ireland and NZ (France just a bit of gap below) in the last 5 years. There is parity. Unusually so.
So, the issue is WHICH of those four in the top group should OZ emulate the most? I was always thinking Ireland, but lately I’ve changed my mind around 4 main issues:
(1) unlikelihood all the states will submit to a Leinster-like overlord
(2) the size difference (and the fact Ireland does not need to win for its fans to spend, travel, and love rugby
(3) the vast resource of overseas Aussies (Ireland simply does not haves this)
(4) the similarity between SA and OZ in how poor — incredibly poor — their administration is and will be, but also how well it all tracks when winning

A necessity, of course, would be to have a “Currie Cup” in OZ with 10 or so teams.

Yes, for me the main thing Australia could do is cap anyone who shows Test quality, wherever they may be. So many have slipped between the cracks or could not find the contract they liked. So cap them! Imagine a Bledisloe Cup squad with Meafou, Hansen, Dempsey, Tuipolotu and the five best current Aussie forwards abroad in it? Better? Yes.
