About
Ever since I was a barefoot seven-year old palming off the local Maori boys during makeshift rugby league games in South Auckland, I’ve always had a passion for all things competitive.
In my head the Warriors are amazing, the Australian Open is Christmas, and Lebron James is humble.
Having worked for close to a decade in the media, predominantly in publishing and TV/radio, I now split my time between writing and being glued to various sports on the box.
Sometimes I’m serious, others light-hearted. I trust in you, the reader, that you won’t confuse the two.

Enough Bull...come back Derrick Rose
11 Apr 2013It’s almost here. The NBA playoffs are closing in. As we sit back and enjoy the final days of Carmelo Anthony’s brilliance, debate on whether the Heat will get a repeat, all while wondering if the Lakers will even make the finals, one question dominates the rest. Time for footballers to heed Dugan's social media disaster
1 Apr 2013Last night’s announcement from the Brisbane Broncos that they were no longer interested in chasing Josh Dugan’s autograph was another reminder that NRL is no longer just about the game. Brisbane were on the verge of signing Dugan to a $2 million deal until a series of inappropriate comments from Dugan on his Instagram account [...]
Since when is a WAG a sports ambassador?
26 Feb 2013Recently I have been getting wonderful advice off of a highly respected (and at times fondly despised) Sydney journalist, who has constantly reminded me one piece of key advice, “Do not get involved with a sportsman. Ever.” As a female sports writer/reporter this is standard piece of guidance and a vital one; being involved with [...]
Athlete's inkdividuality
18 Feb 2013What is the fascination with sports stars having tattoos? Last time I checked, tattoos never hindered the playing performance of stars like LeBron James or Ben Barba, yet for reasons unknown, it’s still an ongoing topic of discussion. Public opinion of Australian athletes and their chosen ink is as much a permanent fixture on social [...]
Peptide chat with former NRL player
8 Feb 2013A prominent former NRL player yesterday spoke with me of the pressure on players and medical staff to “push the envelope” with their training regimes and treatment of injuries. When asked whether the use of performance enhancing drugs was common practice in rugby league, the player, who asked to remain anonymous, responded, “Man, this is [...]
Jesse Ryder forgoes NZ Test selection for domestic duties
30 Jan 2013Jesse Ryder doesn’t even have an IPL contract yet. However that’s not stopping the controversial New Zealand batsman from playing domestic cricket in favour of a return to the Black Caps side facing England next month. It was originally thought by many that a return to the Black Caps for the upcoming England series in [...]
