Warner deserves a place because he scores enough runs quickly–ODI strike rate of 96.55. Smith doesn’t deserve a place because others score enough runs more quickly than he does–his ODI strike rate is 86.35.

Aaron Finch is Australia's biggest World Cup worry

I reckon the top five should be as follows:

Burns
S. Marsh (replaced by Warner when fit)
Smith
Voges
Lynn

By the numbers: The future of Australian batting

Soft dismissal, Hazlewood didn’t deserve that.

Jesus, Warner’s bowling. Bet Clarke wishes he could turn to Mitchell Marsh for a few overs.

True, but if we’re going to have crap batsmen, we may as well have crap batsmen who can also bowl a bit (i.e., Mitchell Marsh).

Exactly!

Might be over in two days this time.

What were the Australian selectors thinking? Marsh and Voges have performed equally badly with the bat so far this series, each averaging about 15. But Marsh has bowled well, picking up three important wickets in two matches at an average of 21. If they have each been equally poor with the bat, then why drop the one who has at least been good with the ball?

Time to retire at the end of this series, Clarke.

The Aussie tail may as well throw the bat a bit, I reckon.

Good on you, Nev. He’s had his fair share of luck so far, but good to see an Australian batsman (besides Rogers) who bats like he’s playing a test match.

You got your stats wrong; you left out Rogers’ 10 from the second innings in Cardiff. Also, how is he an ‘unsung’ hero? A lot has been written about his recent success.

Chris Rogers: The unsung Australian batting hero

He’s been dismissed for fewer than 50 runs just once in his last 11 innings (includes that one 49 not out).

Oh, Mitch.

Righto Mitch Marsh, this is precisely the kind of situation which Watson always lacked the bottle to deal with. Let’s see what you’ve got.

Well done to Rogers and Voges for steadying the ship a bit. Both need big scores, though, if we are going to recover from those three early wickets…

Completely agree. CA has completely ballsed this up. They’ve done the opposite of what they should have done. They should have dropped Haddin earlier based on his form, but they didn’t. And they shouldn’t be dropping Haddin straight after having to take a test off due to a family crisis, but they are. Haddin should be dropped, but this is a terrible way to do it.

Haddin Ashes exclusion 'harsh call': Healy

“An average of 40+ with the bat and low 30’s with the ball will make him a very fine cricketer”.

An average of 40+ with the bat and low 30s with the ball would put him up there with the all-time great allrounders!

The Ashes: Don't underestimate Mitch Marsh's bowling

No way they’ll drop Haddin after time off for compassionate leave. That would look ethically dubious to say the least. Best case would be if he retired to make way for Neville, but I doubt that will happen.

Haddin versus Nevill: A quandary for selectors

It would be a very bad look for Cricket Australia to drop Haddin straight after he’s had to skip a test due to a family crisis. It would send the message to other players that, if they are enduring a similar crisis, they should be wary of skipping a match lest they lose their place in the team. That’s a dangerous message to send. Of course, on form, Haddin should to be replaced by Nevill ASAP, but to do so before the next test would look very callous on the part of Cricket Australia.

Nevill likely to make way for Haddin

I agree Clarke looks terribly stiff and uncomfortable at the crease, but I’m confident he still has a bit of good batting in him. I know that one of Clarke’s most valuable features is his tactical nous, but what do you guys think of the possibility of him handing the captaincy over to Smith after the ashes but remaining in the team as a batsman for a little while, like Ponting did? Then he could provide valuable guidance to Smith as he starts his tenure as captain, as well as focusing more of his energies on improving his form with the bat.

Michael Clarke, it just might be time to go

Agree, Clarke’s looking very unconvincing at the crease. Is it because, on account of his bad back, he struggles with the short ball (especially the steep bounce Broad gets), and, since this is always in the back of his mind, he’s become generally just a bit tentative?

The Ashes: Australia's pace the difference

Can’t stand Boycott’s commentary on the radio. In fact, I don’t think there’s much in it between the commentary on ABC Grandstand and on Channel 9 for this series…
