The Daily Rugby League Telegraph said it was a going to be a “sellout” leading up to the game.

A lot of the tickets were free too.

GWS crowds will take a generation: Sheedy

I hate to put the boot into the McDonalds of Australian Sport when they are down.

I don’t want to seem uncaring or disrespectful.

GWS crowds will take a generation: Sheedy

Yes because they show 9 live games now instead of 4. Why wouldn’t it be a record.

But average per game is woeful compared to the best years.
You can’t just keep adding viewers, because AFL fans will watch more than one game, probably all 9.

“Coolen is expected to lodge the documents through his lawyer before the FFA appoint an independent legal team”

That’s legal action – so stop your silly arguing Totti.

Front page news around Australia today is whether GCS will win their first game against Port Adelaide and move off the bottom.

Wow, what an exciting AFL season we are having folks!

Would a video referee work in football?

GCS
Football Associations vote on football rule changes not governments.

AFL fans and Sokkah critics are quick to react and slow to think.

Would a video referee work in football?

Australia has 2 football associations – the FFA and Football Australia, as do some other countries.

Don’t expect Palmer and Lowy to agree on anything.

Would a video referee work in football?

Yes I read it and good article.

The author however, missed the main reason why the bottom teams are generating so much hype – they are new expansion teams.

Demetriou and every AFL fan wants them to do well, to the point where they’re losing interest in their own teams, by the look of the falling attendances and ratings.

Its only intriguing because they are expansion teams playing for the wooden spoon, the AFL wants to drum up as much interest as possible so AFL fans think they are taking over Australia.

Is AFL expanding?

If it was North Melbourne and Melbourne playing for the wooden spoon, who would care outside of Melbourne?

Would be great if Neill comes back home to West Sydney and Grosso goes to SFC – what interest that match up would have for the Sydney derby.

They’re still debating the Besart penalty Fuss.

Agree, leave the game as it is and trying to get 210 football associations to agree on how to introduce goal line technology will be worse than the united nations trying to bring peace to the middle east.

You are free to use whatever moniker you like – no law against that.

The game is called Aussie Rules – Denetriou tries to call it Australian Football as a merketing ploy to get more people in, but we all know what Australian Football is.

Rini Coolen took legal action against the FFA and got nothing.

This latest court case is a personal one against AU, not FFA and is more to do with the fact that his work visa has expired and he will be deported, so he is trying to get his job back.

You and all your fake moniker’s are a disgrace to the game!

Of course you could make it work, but question is do the fans want it and want to stop play.
How do we resume play if its not a goal – drop ball on the goal line?

Football is a traditional world game and most people love the controversy.
The A-League grand final generated more publicity and media interest around Australia because of the penalty controversy.

Even after looking at it several times, some people still don’t agree if it was a genuine penalty, so how will someone in a box with 30 seconds to decide do it any better.

Its a game played by humans and subject to error like everything else in our lives – just ask my missus.

Would a video referee work in football?

It must be a fantastic AFL season when all the interest is on the bottom teams and if they’ll win their first game or not.

Front page news in Melbourne when the Giants won a game and they are supposedly a Sydney team.

I’ve worked out who you are now – trying to discredit me like one of those AFL supporters.

Yes, and who said English football doesn’t have playoffs like Australia.

They certainly generate the interest, the crowds and some addiitonal revenue for clubs and the FA.

There's life In England's lower leagues

When you’ve got nearly 2 billion to spend its not that hard to get results.

Although Demetriou has spent 400 million on expanding AFL – yet its contracting in NSW and Qld – so I wouldn’t even put him in the top ten – but I wasn’t asked to vote.

Even with two extra teams and an extra game every weekend, attendances and ratings are falling.

But with the money and the media behind you, you just can’t do no wrong, can you.

With the obstacles they face and their shoestring budget, I believe Lowy and the FFA board are doing an outstanding job.

What AFL can learn from other sports

The AFL gets paid by the Tasmanian government – $8 million or more, no matter how many turn up, so even if they got double the crowd at the MCG its worth more money to the FFA to play them in Tasmania. That’s the AFL’s biggest driver.

There are the other spin offs of travel, spending money and accomodation and Broadcast revenue for the Taswegians.

What AFL can learn from other sports

Looks like some old habits like racism and narrow mindedness die hard.

Record, what record?
The highest ratings were in the first round that ran for 2 weeks and had nine games.

The highest first round match had 1.2M viewers and so this game is about 50% lower than the highest 5 city metro rating this season.

Magpies beat Cats by 12 points

Actually the teams in Europe that spend the most amount of grubby money weren’t even in the Champions League or in the final, teams like Manchester City, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Juventius, AC Milan, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The attendance of 16,059 is the lowest AFL crowd in Brisbane for 14 years.

Brisbane Lions vs. GWS Giants: AFL live scores, blog

Undeserving?

Lets put things in context.

4 months ago Chelsea sacked their manager and were in disarray, they appointed one of the assistant coaches Robert Di Matteo as the interim manager.

Chelsea went into the final with 6 of their regular first team either out injured or suspended.

Bayern were playing at home in front of a sell out German crowd.

Chelsea went behind in the 83rd minute and scored an equaliser in the 88th minute.

They then went behind in the penalties and had to save the last 2 Bayern penalties and score the last two of their own penalties to win.

Despite all that – they’ve won the FA Cup and European Champions League double, only the second team ever to do so and the first London team to ever win a European Club Championship.

Give them some credit for God’s sake!
