If Melbourne and the Roar do lose Adelaide and Central will have a huge advantage. Adelaide will rest players and Coast will get the win they need. Not very fair to Wellington and Melbourne

Final round games should be played at the same time

That really is an incredible stat! He is an icon and Adelaide is very lucky to have him

An audience with Lance Armstrong, one of the greats

sledgeandhammer, that is not what the article suggests. Read the article and the authors comments and see that he never says he doesn’t support other Australian teams, just that the Socceroos are more symbolic / representative of Australia’s cultural diversity than other national teams (in the sense that the players come from different backgrounds not that they better represent in terms of their performance and fan numbers), and that is true.

A lot of people are just jumping to conclusions and putting your own spin on what the article says.

Why does the mainstream media ignore football?

Michael C, how many Indigenous players to you see playing for the Australian cricket team? How many Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian Australians do you see playing AFL, cricket, rugby at all levels?

I think a lot of you are being very unfair in your judgement of this article. It is a fair opinion

Why does the mainstream media ignore football?

I think it’s a good idea. It’s only an exhibition, taking advantage of the popularity of the EPL. It would be great and people would turn up in bigger numbers to see Man City, Tottenham rather than other European clubs as someone said.

The dominance of the EPL is hindering A-League growth

Why does the mainstream media ignore football?

Melbourne is more of a sporting city based on attendance figures in all codes and therefore would be able to sustain a second A-League team better than Sydney

Tasmanian franchise must be a priority for the A-League

Everyone talks about Sydney being such an important market but the fact is they don’t turn up in great numbers given the population of the city and that includes to Sydney FC games, the Swans, NRL matches etc.

They are spoilt for choice with so many Socceroos games, concerts, events etc so there is so much competition.

I know a team in West Sydney will have it’s on supporter base in Paramatta, Blacktown or wherever but the fact is it will still detract fans from Sydney FC.

Tasmanian franchise must be a priority for the A-League

Re: “Due to public demand, Adelaide United fans can rejoice as SBS broadcasts the club’s FIFA Club World Cup match – and the semi-final between Manchester United and Gamba Osaka – LIVE and exclusive on the network’s second free-to-air channel.”

Very poor from SBS not to be showing the game on free to air. Even the Gamba Man U game. Not everyone has digitial so it’s still not the same. So much for the World Game channel. Very disappointing.

Don't fret too much over A-League crowds

I don’t see the point of keeping the Queensland name. They won’t be representing the whole of Queensland so go with Brisbane. It always seemed weird to go with Queensland when every other team was based around the city – any future expansion with a second team in Queensland was going to cause this problem.

Queenslanders must share love in A-League expansion

Good night! Just make sure you behave yourself in these threads and stick to sports issues 😉

Don't fret too much over A-League crowds

What I meant was a lot of non football fans would have watched the Olyroos simply because it was the Olympics and they wouldn’t have been impressed with the standard of the team and therefore it wouldn’t have been great for the A League in attracting these potential fans. While we knew they wouldn’t be up to the standard of the Socceroos at the WC non fans wouldn’t have known

Don't fret too much over A-League crowds

KB, you misunderstood my post. I did see those games along with football and non football fans alike, many who don’t have Fox and hence don’t get to see many games. As a result the poor performance in the Olympics reflected badly on Australian football

Don't fret too much over A-League crowds

KB the reality is Australia doesn’t get to see many games on free to air these days so the Olyroos poor performance had a negative impact on how people see the standard of Australian football and their matches were watched by a huge amount of people. That sort of stuff has to have an effect on the A League.

Don't fret too much over A-League crowds

oikee please stay. The site will be poorer without – we need more Roarers. Just ignore the trolls by staying on topic. They’re the ones who look like fools not you.

Stop the phoney outrage, and join the 2018 party

Well that’s a bit better.

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

NNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

Go the Reds! They can’t lose this surely.

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

As for my tips:

1. Melbourne
2. Adelaide
3. Queensland
4. Central Coast just edging Sydney

Melbourne – so many games at home and still a great side. Sydney is the dark horse.

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

According to the World game site – Likely Adelaide XI v Waitakere: Galekovic; D Mullen, Cornthwaite, Costanzo, Jamieson; Dodd, Reid, Barbiero, Sarkies, Spagnuolo; Cristiano.

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

The Reds are already like the walking wounded in Japan with three players out with the flu tonight. I think the Japan trip will have a negative effect on their form at home especially with all the extra games. Saying that though they have the best team in the league

A-League's form guide is a confusing read

Is Ronaldo fit after his walk off on the weekend? If he is even slightly injured I doubt we will see him in the semi.

The Club World Cup is a valuable tournament

You wonder what it will take for the big clubs to take the competition seriously but I agree it is a great symbol of the reach of the game

The Club World Cup is a valuable tournament

I remember South Melbourne doing ok in that cup despite not winning a game. Seeing them play Man United was interesting. Funny how we may be facing them again.
