Really good analysis here Mal. Can’t wait for the games to begin!

Recapping the NLCS, predicting the World Series

Definitely going to be a great series Mal. I think the Cubs will win – I was tossing up between 4-1 and 4-3, but the first sounded too harsh to the Indians and the second sounded too fair, so I’ll go in the middle and predict the Cubbies to win it 4-2. Thanks for reading and commenting!

A historic World Series awaits

I think Kuzminskas could come in and contribute really well playing behind Carmelo. The players coming off the bench will be a big asset if they can deliver this season.

I get that you don’t like the Knicks and/or my article, You’ve made that point pretty clear. I’d much rather “get a 7 seed [and] maybe win a 1st round playoff series” then not make the playoffs at all.

There’s no such thing as a “product of society”. That’s a lazy excuse that gives people the right to act badly and then blame it on the environment they grew up in. Everybody makes their own decisions in this life, and everybody has to be held accountable for their actions.

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

I think the signings we made are a big improvement on our squads from the past couple of years, even if some of the players do have injury history and are “past their prime” in some people’s opinion.

I too share the same guarded optimism… I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

No, but I’d much rather see us make the postseason again for a few years than suffer through endless 17-65 seasons. We’ve gotta take baby steps – first goal is making it to the playoffs, then we have to endeavour to make the conference semifinals and so on. Improve on our performance each year.

The life of a Knicks fan is living season to season unfortunately. When you support such a woeful franchise, you can only look to the next year as a source of hope as opposed to thinking about long-term goals like other franchises. Hopefully some of the younger players on the team (Porzingis, Kuzminskas, Plumlee – even a guy like Jennings) can help us become a perennial playoff fixture in the short term, which will not only mean that players want to stay with us, but that others want to come to us. The Timberwolves are certainly in an envious position, even though when they traded away Kevin Love it looked like all hope was lost.

Even if they get the fifth seed, that’s still a start for them to build upon. Just making the playoffs again would be a huge step for this franchise.

Tim Duncan is the best power forward of all time.

Spurs star Tim Duncan retires from basketball

Yes, I’m sure this was Tunsil’s ONLY use of marijuana in his entire life. Are you one of Laremy’s agents or..? I’m hard pressed to find a reason as to why you’re defending this guy so vigorously.

Clearly, if the colleges cared about their students, they would emphasise study and work over training for such ludicrous amounts per week, but obviously they know they’re not going to make any money off good grades and employment. They make the money off of the student athletes. This is a problem that the colleges need to address, but there have been multiple instances of now NFL/NBA players etc training, studying AND holding down a job all at the same time, so don’t try and act like it’s an impossible scenario so it just shouldn’t be undertaken at all.

I was referring to the entitlement mentality that is bred into athletes – they are given everything they want from a young age, allowed to do anything they want and get away with anything they do, purely because they’re playing on a sports team, be it at high school, college or a professional level. If you’re the star player on the team, it’s exacerbated even more – everyone will go the extra effort to cover up your mistakes and turn a blind eye to your actions.

Finally, just as Allanthus said below, what he smokes, injects or snorts is of the GREATEST concern to NFL clubs. If you were going to hire somebody for a job, would you hire them knowing they took drugs on a regular basis?

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

Yes, I’m really suggesting they go out and get a job.. *gasp*, what a ludicrous idea!

Please explain to me the ‘mentality of these college football players’ then, since you seem to know so much about what that mentality is.

No, it’s not a ridiculous comment – you and the others on this comment thread are suggesting that because he played college football and was being exploited sooo badly, that he just had to take money from his coaches!

Yes, let’s all just brush it under the rug because ‘everyone’ does it apparently. That makes it fine, right?

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

Why do you see other college athletes fulfilling their athletic ‘requirements’ and also working then? The only reason he wanted the Ole Miss staff to pay his rent for him is entitlement issues. What is the ‘plight’ of student athletes, Alex? Celebrity-level attention around campus; ability to have rent/bills paid for; ability to have the athletic department cover for you if you ever get into any trouble whatsoever?

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. Actions have consequences.

Your attitude is exactly the reason as to why I wrote this article. The NCAA system is not at fault – Laremy Tunsil is.

I can see your point in regards to the fact of ‘Tunsil was poor and struggling, so he just HAD to take money/various other illegal benefits from coaches just in order to SURVIVE!’, but in my opinion, it’s totally invalid and once again just excusing the player’s bad behaviour.

If he and/or his mother needed money, then go out and get a job. The problem with these budding professional athletes is they’ve had an entitlement mentality bred into them ever since they picked up a ball/bat/stick. They’ve always been told how special they are, how amazing they are, how if they just win games for the team then they can do anything they like without any repercussions. Tunsil clearly believed that if he was playing for the Ole Miss football team, then it’s only right that he gets his rent paid for!

What about all the college students who aren’t on scholarship, who don’t have the Ole Miss athletic department to take care of their and their family’s bills for them? Do you see them engaging in illegal acts to get by?

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

See my reply to eagleJack below in regards to why I brought up the Ray Rice domestic violence case and the Steubenville rape.

The last line of your comment sums up exactly the attitude I’m railing against, and the whole reason why I wrote this article. All these people are saying ‘poor Laremy’, but are forgetting that he actually DID the things that the hacker revealed. If he had done something a lot more serious, such as in the realm of the two examples I used, would you also be saying he just ‘made a mistake’?

Yes, someone is being vindictive towards him, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he still broke the law?

And he’s not a ‘kid’, I wish people would stop referring to college players and rookies in the NFL as such. Tunsil is 21 years old and a grown man, he’s not some little child – stop excusing his behaviour and start holding the MAN accountable for his own actions.

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

I agree that whoever did this had a serious problem with either Tunsil, Ole Miss or both, and basically set out to ruin Tunsil’s draft night by releasing those images/videos, but people are forgetting that Tunsil ruined it himself by even engaging in those acts in the first place.

If he was stupid enough to have himself recorded while smoking a bong, and talking about such things as coaches paying rent/bills over text where that evidence could easily be subpoenaed by the NCAA in regards to an investigation into illegal benefits at Ole Miss, then this stuff was probably going to come out at some point anyway. It just so happened it came out at an inopportune time.

You’ve got the point I’m trying to make, in regards to the fact that the offenders are never at fault when professional athletes are involved, but I was not comparing the crimes of Tunsil with those of Rice or the Steubenville players. Clearly smoking marijuana and having coaches pay your rent is not even in the same realm as domestic violence and rape, but I merely used those two examples as evidence of the offenders getting the pity treatment from the media.

Laremy Tunsil deserves no pity

My solution is to have the players take it more seriously. How that happens, I don’t know – but to me, the All Star Game has lost all value as it’s merely just guys running up and down a court throwing up shots without any defence being played. It’s not played as a real basketball game.

All Star weekend needs to change

FULL TIME

The Broncos get the win here as they advance to an AFC Championship clash against the New England Patriots. They left it late to score their only touchdown of the day, but Denver got it done when it mattered. Manning (21/37, 222 yards) wasn’t as impressive as many would have liked,, but the fact he didn’t turn the ball over is a positive. C.J. Anderson (15 carries, 72 yards, TD) was the man on the ground, while the defense (3 sacks, 1 forced fumble) was dominant all game. For the Steelers, they had the air game flowing, with Roethlisberger (24/37, 339 yards) posting big numbers, but their inability to make plays on the ground – Fitzgerald Toussaint (12 carries, 39 yards, TD) was unable to do much all game – meant they were doomed to fail. Martavis Bryant (9 catches, 154 yards) did his best Antonio Brown impression, but with the playmaking wide receiver unable to take the field in this one, Pittsburgh couldn’t get the job done as their playoff journey ends in Denver. Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady? Bring it on.
