Got to give Jones credit. He’s not one to let a PR disaster hover. He’s out giving his version to anyone who’ll listen to put himself in the best light. He’s even playing the ‘got offers’ card to try and manipulate any offers he does have.
If only he put as much effort and commitment into Australia Rugby in his return as he has into his exit strategy from it.

'I am a better coach': Eddie's head-turning take, says several teams keen on him despite Wallabies flop

To be fair to Jones he only had what, a week or two with the BaaBaas? Even he can’t burn down a place that quickly.

Eddie's painful reminder of what might have been at World Cup as big name Wallabies star despite Baabaas defeat

I’ll give him credit for leaving sooner rather than letting this drag out into the new year. Time to focus on moving forward rather than backwards. Hopefully that means more changes in important positions, but I won’t hold my breath.

'Who cares?': Eddie has no regrets about Wallabies disaster but takes swipes at RA and media

Any coaches being sacked from leading a team into the sewers? That’s the one thing Hamish looks for in a new coach.

How about Jake White? Imagine the number of heads that would explode if he got the job!

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

Of course he’s not a quitter. He probably wouldn’t get a nice golden parachute if he did.

'I'm not a quitter': Under-siege RA chair won't follow Jones, blames 'broken system' for chaos

I know this isn’t going to be popular but I’d have started Vunivalu instead of Koro. I think Vunivalu showed more in his game against France than Koro has in the three RWC games.
Though now I’ve suggested that Koro will probably score 15 tries and Vunivalu will come on and get instantly red carded.

'Fall guy': Eddie doubles down on future, makes three changes as Wallabies sweat on RWC miracle

As a Brumbies fan I’m clearly going to be biased on any merger, so cutting them I’m not going to support. We just re-added the Force so I’m not in favour of cutting anyone right now, even if the Brumbies had a magic immunity idol protecting them. We have 5 teams at the moment, we have to find a way to work with all of them for the foreseeable future.

RWC News: 'Blink rate goes bizarre' - Human lie detector studies Eddie, Hansen wants Brumbies-Rebels merger, Dupont upbeat

These responses make me almost glad we lost to Wales. If we’d won and made it out of the pools Hamish would have patted himself on the back for a job well done getting out of the pools and continued to do nothing to fix or improve rugby in Australia. I don’t have a lot of faith in him, but maybe now if there’s pressure on his position his self interest might benefit rugby in Australia for a change.

'How did mighty Australian Rugby get to this': McLennan says he has 'no' regrets, outlines three areas to fix

I don’t agree that he has delivered anything even remotely innovating to the Wallabies since taking over. The Wallabies look like a team bereft of ideas rather than swimming in something new and complex. What even is Jones’ vision? We’ve heard a lot about what the Wallabies were going to do this year and seen them do nothing.
But maybe we have no choice but to keep Jones. Getting rid of him is going to be expensive and after the last year a job with the RA isn’t going to look all that appealing to someone new either.

Eddie Jones should be celebrated not booed: Why the worst thing RA could do is sack the Wallabies coach

True. I’d rather this happen now than in 2027 at home…though it still might!

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

Given that Jones seems to like to replace exclusively with NRL people and that comp into the its prelim finals think about all those free League players he could call in for a nice holiday in France.

Wallabies young gun's RWC over ahead of do-or-die Test, intrigue over replacement as Ikitau returns for BaaBaas

Wales on the scoreboard only beat Fiji due to two Beggar penalties. Australia isn’t so much better than Wales that they can do without high percentage goal kicking if they want to better their odds of winning. Injuries would change things but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kellaway only gets to play in the Portugal game this RWC.

Wallabies set to back veteran halfback for crunch Fiji World Cup clash, gun fullback misses selection again

One of the things is that France always looked like they had another gear to move up to during that entire game. The Wallabies did not. Goalkicking, the maul are both issues. Though to be fair you’d expect this kind of result with where the two teams are in the ranking right now.

Vuli played well. Played like you’d hope a player on the edge of selection would play in that he had a red hot go and put his hand up. Almost makes me wish we started all the bench players just to see if they brought a similar energy to the team. Don’t think that would have meant a win, but could have been interesting.

Studs and duds: Eddie's 'wrongheaded' selections, Carter '100 percent a concern', 'weapon' fires at last

Slightly surprised they didn’t just pull up whoever was doing it for the Australia A program since they would already be going to France.
Makes you wonder whether this is also a wider comment on the state of Australia’s union coaching stocks that they aren’t pulling from one of the super teams.

RWC News: Eddie's surprise new Wallabies coach revealed, fresh scare for ABs, Richie fumes at 'slap in the face'

Not really sure what to expect. Hoping for them to make the semis, but would be completely unsurprised if it ended up as just a repeat of 2007 with a somewhat lacklustre exit vs England in the QF.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of Cooper, but thought his return to Australian rugby he did himself proud with his composure in the way he handled it all. It was very mature and considered. I think he represented himself and the jersey well and wish him the best of luck.

Shock and raw: New skipper, rookies galore and Test careers brutally ended as Eddie's RWC bombshells CONFIRMED

Best I can think of is Vunivalu is a good training opposition for the backs to face.

CONFIRMED: 34-man Wallabies squad for Bledisloe series against All Blacks as trio axed in shake-up

He did also save a try on the line with Cooper.

'Gutted': Cheika's Pumas steal dramatic win to confirm Eddie's worst Wallabies fears

A lot of talks about the backs, but I hope our forwards stand up. I’d like to see them be aggressive, tackle hard, support well, be competitive in the set piece and hopefully hold onto the ball…so that’s pretty much do everything well I guess! Also just as importantly, not be stupid, be disciplined and not be card magnets as they have seemed to be in the last few years. There isn’t very little time to put a marker in the ground if we want to be more than making up the numbers in the RWC.
Forgot to add, hope they all do well and even if we don’t win as long as we look like Jones has the team on the right track I’ll be relatively satisfied…still prefer a win though of course!

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Why Jones opted for Hodge at 12 as Suli starts and four debutants named for Boks clash

The most disappointing thing for me is Hooper is still captain. I was hoping he’d refresh the leadership after some long dire years, particularly as the short season last year saw Hooper making the same poor decisions due to the influence of the previous coach and his mentality that might have cost a win or two. Not sure if it is a reflection on Rennie, the lack of quality leadership material in the current crop or maybe a bit of both.
As for some of the other players, the Wallabies lack the “easier” test matches against lower ranked nations they often had in the past. Not as many games means they can’t blood and test fringe and new players as easily as before. Rather that the seemingly stranger selections happen here against the French and that in the RC we field a more coherent team.

Dave Rennie reveals his Wallabies squad to take on France

I’m pretty sure that 4 out of the last 5 RWC have had Australia, Wales and Fiji in the same pool with all 5 having both Wales and Fiji. For the next draw they can save a whole minute by just lumping them all together as soon as 1 is assigned to a pool.

Wallabies handed nigh-identical 2023 Rugby World Cup draw

Yes. If the NRL wants to be serious about head injuries this kind of thing has to be sanction both in the game and in the judiciary.

Was this a dog act by Jai Arrow on a concussed James Tedesco?

This is good news. I read a comment that this might be slightly less than what Foxtel was offering, but if that is true I think the potential benefits from FTA (and potentially streaming if it is very competitively priced) could be more than worth it. I know it’s on a much smaller scale, but road cycling has benefited nicely from the commitment of SBS to it, particularly over the last 10 years.
When 9 does put together their commentary team I hope they do better than RWC 2011 when they had the likes of Hadley, who clearly didn’t know half of the Australian team, plus I hope they don’t just get the Foxtel crew. There are a couple of former players on that roster who I’ll be more than happy to say goodbye to.

Strengthening the defence isn’t a big surprise. I don’t think Hodge is the key to winning, but if you have a record loss you need to do something to try to arrest the leakiness.

Still hope Lolesio gets time on the pitch late in the game. He’s still raw and we can’t expect him to be a world beater off the bat, but facing tough sides is still worthwhile for young players and I hope he’ll still get a start in one of the Argentina game (which was probably the original plan).

Reece Hodge at 10 as Dave Rennie makes huge changes to Wallabies team for Bledisloe 4

What about the scrum? Or lineout? Or contact area? Or breakdown? Intensity? And all the other areas of a complete rugby game. The Wallabies had a lot of issues throughout the RWC. IF wouldn’t have fixed every area they were lacking in that determined their overall campaign. Don’t forget that he was there for the vast majority of the slide since the last world cup as well.

Rugby AU and Israel Folau settle legal dispute

Maybe. My comment might be too absolutist (does that make me a Sith?) as just having a different player in means by definition things will be different. It was more targeted at the overall result and that the Wallabies problems weren’t going to be fixed by just one player in the team regardless of who they were.
