I agree to a certain extent, but Watson is both a better batsman and bowler than Symonds in my opinion.
Remember the 2015 World Cup is also in the eligible period.
I put together an “Australia A” XII for the period of time when too:
David Warner
Brad Haddin
Steven Smith
Damien Martyn
George Bailey
Michael Bevan
James Faulkner
Shane Warne
Nathan Brackan
Shaun Tait
Clint McKay
Doug Bollinger (12th)

there isn’t really an all-rounder to replace Watson, unless you pick Faulkner to bat at 7 and move everyone else up. So who is replacing Hayden in your team?

good point, I decided it would be a stretch on my mathematical power to figure out SRs for those who played before 2001. Hayden’s SR would be in the mid-70s. It’s difficult because they played in a different time, but Hayden’s T20I SR of 143 indicates he would be fine going at a run a ball.

Very good, he averaged 47.9, but I felt only one of he or Hussey should be picked and Hussey did all his work in the eligible period.

I agree with your sentiment, but I think the order could fluctuate on the situation. Watson is definitely a top order player, but Gilchrist has a poor record at 7 and he just has to open. I’d consider moving Watson to 3, but it’s pretty difficult to tell Ricky Ponting not to bat at 3.
Hussey/Symonds makes sense, I put him at 7 to signify that he is the “finisher”.

Warne only played about 40 games after 2001 and his record in that time is actually worse than Hogg. But it’s hard to leave Shane Warne out of any side

Martyn averaged right on 43 post-2001 and was the batsman I most wanted to fit in, but Watson’s all-round stats are too good

I mentioned that, and while it makes sense that the tribunal should offer harsher sentences to those who challenge – if they fail the challenge – even so, May and Hodge’s incidents shouldn’t have warranted the same penalty after both made their decisions.
The tribunal failed the game with the Hodge suspension
thanks i agree, although it’s easy to say the punishment should fit the crime every time, that’s often not the case. In these two cases, I don’t think the punishment fit the crime though.
The tribunal failed the game with the Hodge suspension
I understand where they come from, but my point is that shouldn’t be the case, particularly in this instance.
Fair enough on the second point, but I refuse to take my hand off it
The tribunal failed the game with the Hodge suspension
I’d feel a lot sorrier for them if they had this squad each time!
