He looked to have a beautiful run through the race, but when he wasn’t able to build momentum through being held up, that negated the positives of Oliver’s ride to that point. He was slightly disappointing for mine (I’m operating with high expectations for Snow Sky though!)

The Caulfield Cup wash-up: Can your horse win the Melbourne Cup?

Thanks mate! I have to take Fame Game, knowing he has transferred his best Japan form over here. His second in the Tenno Sho was outstanding – he’s a stayer who can run breathtaking sectionals late in the piece. Shall be an interesting race!

The Caulfield Cup wash-up: Can your horse win the Melbourne Cup?

With his current racing style, I think he may find it difficult to hold off challengers late after taking on The Cleaner. In saying that, he’s a free running racehorse who might be suited at the fast pace, being able to settle behind the leaders without pulling. Just my take.

2015 Cox Plate power rankings (third acceptances)

I kid you not!

Cox Plate selections could cause controversy

Arod and Gailo Chop would be excellent finds for the Emirates Stakes. Both horses will find themselves carrying big weights in the race, but won’t be too disadvantaged due to the quality handicap conditions.

Gailo Chop is entered in the Melbourne Cup. He has 55.5kg, so if he runs in the first three of the Cox Plate (or Mackinnon) he’ll pass the ballot conditions for the 3200m contest and be safely in the field. Happy Trails is another on 55.5kg who needs to run a place in either of those races to run in the Cup.

Cox Plate selections could cause controversy

If Press Statement runs a place in the Caulfield Guineas (already being a G1 winner) I think he’ll safely make the field.

The Cleaner is exempt from ballot due to winning the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

Cox Plate selections could cause controversy

I don’t mind internationals as long as they are adding to the quality of the race. I believe Cox Plate invitee’s should at least have a G1 win at the time of writing, unless there is a ‘Buffering’ type middle distance performer who has placed at G1 level on many occasions previously. Arod is a horse who I think satisfies that criteria. Highland Reel will be a fantastic addition; he was only beaten 3 lengths behind the Arc winner Golden Horn in the Irish Champion Stakes. Fingers crossed the toothless man from Blackpool has a bet on our great race!

Cox Plate selections could cause controversy

The Turnbull is an intriguing race – it is one of the only races where I look at the weight differentials closely, as many of the horses running have competed against each other previously in WFA contests throughout the spring. Even a 1 or 2kg difference can influence the finish of the race. Royal Descent was absolutely parceled in with 53.5kg this year; Preferment must be some colt!

Epsom Handicap or Epsom Stakes?

Tres Blue will have to win his way into the Cup this year surely. A 22nd, 13th and 10th in his three runs here. Good luck to the connections though!

Can Tres Blue make it two for Waterhouse?

I doubt Greg Miles would be allowed to say something like that in a race, even if had $500 on it! He said ‘the grey’ I think.

2013 Cox Plate: Preview, live blog and tips

American turf form is never much chop IMO. Side Glance was beaten 9 and 11.3 lengths behind Frankel. Good solid Group 2/3 horse, but he’s not the type we should be targetting for the Cox Plate.

2013 Cox Plate: Preview, live blog and tips

I’d be fairly confident he’d run a place if it wasn’t for his failure last start, but definitely not the worst each-way bet IMO

International controversy to overshadow brilliant Cox Plate

Send him to Royal Ascot for the Kings’ Stand. That’s his race!

Stuck in purgatory, Buffering must look to Perth and Adelaide for Group 1 win

Did you even watch the match? That was one over out of 40. He took a wicket as well which took even more time. I can’t see how that compares to a whole day of English negativity. Of course you wouldn’t be able to see that.

Of course he declared to win. Why else would he do it?!

Precedence isn’t quite nine yet. If he gets enough weight I have no doubt Bart will run him in the Melbourne Cup, while he won’t win, he has ran admirably in all three attempts at the race. He’s nommed for the Caulfield Cup too.

Bart Cummings to saddle up once more

Hilfenhaus led the averages in England for Australia last time around. Horrid in the next series though. Swann’s been average every series he’s played against Australia, apart from a few decent games, can he turn it around? Who knows. The pitch wasn’t conductive to Pattinson’s bowling.

Will Swann be exposed as Ashes lightweight?

Swann’s record is 29 wickets at 40 against Australia, really don’t think he is going to dominate like every else is saying!

Five predictions for the Australian team in The Ashes

I wouldn’t argue that 276 runs from 10 innings at 27.6 was Cook’s best. He was found out constantly against McGrath and co. He has improved many times over now though. Exciting times ahead!

Back-to-back Ashes will sort men from boys

I believe the Feehan Stakes would have been the better option for an upgrade- the race is targeted by the Cox Plate horses more than the stayers heading towards the Cups and the race has attracted quality fields for decades. The last few winners of the Feehan (Happy Trails, Rekindled Interest, Whobegotyou, El Segundo, etc.) are horses that would be competitive at any level at a mile; I’d argue that Southern Speed, Littorio, Vigor & Shocking would struggle in a Doncaster/Emirates. I believe the Feehan’s distance is more conductive to the horses that run in the race, attracting milers/middle distances horses rather than stayers like the Makybe Diva does.

Adam Blencowe (@NoverreMan) posted an interesting stat on Twitter, stating “The Feehan has produced more subsequent G1 winners this century than the Craiglee/Makybe Diva and 5 Cox Plate winners as opposed to 1.”

Makybe Diva upgrade step in right direction

Brisbane Lions of 01-03 easily. They have a better goal to goal line. The Cats wouldn’t have been able to live with Brisbane’s forward line (Lynch, Bradshaw, Brown, etc.). The midfield would just about break even. Geelong’s midfield would have to kick most of Geelong’s goals because Mooney and Hawkins would have been outclassed by Michael and Leppitsch. Team on team I just can’t see how Geelong could win a game like this against BL.

Who was the greatest: the 2001-03 Lions or the 2007-09 Cats?

It’s pretty hard to take you seriously mate when you are allowing personal prejudice to blind your judgement. Firstly you state Warnie’s ‘thin’ penalty was just a blatant act of racism by Cricket Australia. That’s an extremely thick-headed thing to state and is quite frankly an act of racism in itself. Your comment above proves so.

Finally, some passion in the Big Bash
