I was at the game. Hooker did a lot of early body work on Brown disrupting his timing. North need to look at the was Port looks after Dixon and block for him.

On the other hand Go the Bomber!!!

Six talking points from AFL Round 6

Love the positivity but I can’t see us making the finals this year. Unfortunately I don’t think they fixed the problems from last year over the offseason. Still lacking size in the midfield and a (fit) key forward.

Why the Bombers should win a final in 2020

Absolutely, this would be a great help to the northern clubs. Their reserves playing NEAFL is a joke, its just to big a jump to AFL level.

What the AFL must sort out by the end of the next decade

I like the fact that after this Richmond wont win another one for 75 or 100 years 😱 😛

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Grand final winner, margin, Norm Smith and more

Where did I say it was OK to Boo someone if they were indigenous, that’s bloody offensive.

The rest of your comment I’ll just have to disagree.

The Final Quarter: An opportunity for education and empowerment

Re-reading that it sounds like I approve of the booing, this is not the case. I’m just sick of comments trying to compare such a public well paid profession to your every day 9 to 5.

This year similar comments have been made about nigling and hits of the ball, that if outside of the playing field would land people in jail. These are things you sign up for when you play a professional sport.

While the booing in this case was excessive I doubt many 200 game players have not been booed at one point or another.

The Final Quarter: An opportunity for education and empowerment

Not to belittle the situation or take either side but if you pay me $400K a year to turn up to work you can boo me to your heart’s content.

The Final Quarter: An opportunity for education and empowerment

Well a bit early to be September Premiers, but at least for the first time in a long time they are in with a chance.

Lions should be living in the moment

They got a priority pick in 2016, Pick 19

Thriving culture the key to clubs’ success

I for one will never watch a game that had zones. Stop living in nostalgia and enjoy the game in front of you.

Footy is in a funk

Putting aside whether they deserve it or not.

It’s a good move by GC to ask for pick 1, they’d likely pick up Rowell at pick 1 and Anderson at pick 2. Apparently these two are good mates a bit like McLuggage and Berry were for Brisbane.

Rowell has been been compared to Joel Sellwood. If this is right he could be the right player to build a midfield around.

Do they deserve it?? Probably not, but I’d love to see a season where all teams are competitive, and at the moment GC is the furthest off.

A priority pick for the Suns? Sorry, Saints first, please

Never understood how a 17 round season would be “fair”. Fair-er maybe, but who you play at home could definitely effect whether you make the finals or not.

Could the Dees and Tigers give the AFL's wildcard dreams a boost?

Hey it would be better than the pre-finals bye.

Could the Dees and Tigers give the AFL's wildcard dreams a boost?

Is it to early to call for Mark Neeld to be sacked? … What he’s no longer at Essendon … we’ll have to find another fall guy for Woosha.

Eight talking points from AFL Round 1

Umm Macca don’t look at the ESPN football stories you’ll be disapointed.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 1

Maybe some of the comments I’ve been reading are balancing these experts. Living in Brisbane I don’t hear as much from the “Experts”, so I guess my reading of them seems like they are very negative.

In the end Essendon is better side with Shiel then without.

They’ll be better again with a lift from Merrett (he did lift at the end of last season) + full season out of Daniher, Fantasia and I’m a bit of a rap for Gleeson The other players you listed are depth.

My honest opinion is they end up 5-8, with a chance they miss if the side doesn’t gel eg. the JLT.

Five bold predictions for the 2019 AFL season

I’m curious how the addition of Lynch will affect their secondary ruck. Surely with both him and Reiwoldt in the forward line they can’t carry another big body forward and keep the same pressure.

Does this mean Lynch does some ruck work or do they stick with Grigg. The new rules the Ruck being able to take the ball without it being prior opportunity and the 6-6-6 opening up the center bounce plays to a proper rucks advantage.

I don’t think it’ll be enough to force a change, but I can see them losing a close game or two because of this weakness.

2019 AFL season preview: Richmond Tigers

Yeah well that would help, but they are the Bombers ao there is every chance of them squeezing into the 8 but still losing to Gold Coast.

Five bold predictions for the 2019 AFL season

The “Bold” prediction on this sight regarding Shiel is that he will be a solid contributor to Essendon’s improvement.
Seriously all the hate on Shiel is undeserved, is he Judd or Ablett, No.
He is easily in Essendon’s top 3 midfielders and that by itself means the team should improve.
Essendon won 12 Games last year 1 ro 2 more and they make the finals this year.

Five bold predictions for the 2019 AFL season

Would be extremely happy to see Zac Jones at Essendon next year 🙂

Swans in battle to retain young talent

Interesting pick Barrett for Brisbane, I think it shows why they are still on the rebuild, that a bloke they traded in last year is in this conversation.

Another article on this site suggested that 3rd year players are where they “break out” should happen, for Brisbane I think this would be Harris Andrews if he hasn’t had a breakout season already I would definitely tip him for this year. I can’t even think who else was picked up in that draft?

Fortunately it looks better for coming years, I can’t wait to see Hipwood’s breakout year, he probably needs 1 or 2 more preseasons, but I think he’s going to be good.

The AFL's rising stars: Your team's breakout candidate in 2017

Late to the conversation but I think the penalty is a lot greater then is being made out. it depends on how the 1000 points are allocated. if for example GWS have pick 17 next year (1025 points) less 1000 gives you pick 71.

I am sure it will be more complicated than this, but to me it looks like there first pick won’t be in the first round next year.

Yeah the $100K is barely a slap on the wrist.

GWS slapped with punishment after Whitfield saga

I am with you the blocking just wouldn’t work. How would you adjudicate it if Fyfe or Bontempeli got blocked in a boundary through in situation. Both have a history of going 3rd man up, but both also have a history of just ripping it out of a contested situation. “Legally” blocking these players would be a blight on the game.

You all ready have to nominate the Ruck so they can get there ridiculous 1 meter separation. Do you then nominate a 3rd man up, so you know who you can block?

For me I think the no 3rd man up rule should be trialed in the preseason to see if there is any real benefit.

Third man up now a thing of the past

Bit rough on the Dons. Their 2015 form was a bit mixed, they started really well they only just lost to Sydney, beat Hawthorn and then a week or two latter the wheels fell off when the WADA appeal was announced. I don’t think these performances can be taken as any indication on how they will go next year.

Next year will be tough for the Dons, their season will be determined by 2 players Stewart and Hooker if either can stand up and kick 30-40 goals Essendon will be mid of the table pushing for the 8. If not I’d still expect them to be no lower than 10th to 12th.

I admit I’m a one eyed supporter 🙂

Also I think the Lions will take the spoon, their list is just to young. Hopefully starting 2018 and on they can start moving up the ladder.
