This is an awesome situation in cricket looking at the MCC Laws and a set of Playing Conditions. Under the MCC Laws of cricket it was not out as the bowler has entered his delivery stride, but under the ICC Playing conditions it is out as the rule used states that the bowler may run out the non striker prior to releasing the ball in his delivery stride.

Mankad - the word no one wants to hear

This is the only way this rule can be enforced. Not just on the third man in, any player that comes in after a player is “held” needs to be penalised. In particular the sort of hits like the one on a Souths player a couple of seasons ago (I’m going to guess Craig Wing) can cause serious injury and the attacker is completely vulnerable.

It's time to rub out the 'third man in'

Once the player is tackled you have to let go and roll away. Holding down after the tackle negates any advantage the attacking team made by only allowing themselves to be caught by one defender (often after a line break). There is no way allowing the defender to hold on longer is good for the game. The whole idea of limiting tackles to two players is farcical and it would be a sad day in Rugby League if it were ever introduced.

2013: The Ashes we had to have

Ashes cricketers as Australian politicians

As a Sydney FC fan I’m not happy that they’ve taken our sky blue south of the border. There isn’t a lot of history for A-league fans to cling to but our club colours are something we are very proud of. As a person who isn’t a Victory fan I can find solace in the fact that their away kit is dreadful. Hopefully they don’t need to wear the sky blue against SFC, otherwise it would make for a viewing nightmare.

Sky blue Melbourne Victory kit causes uproar

A Lions tour was a different beast. A rare occasion mixed with the hope we still had left in our current Wallabies outfit. If it came around all of the time (like the Bledisloe) we would have seen the same sort of numbers there.

Is live sport worth the effort nowadays?

Sydney Football Stadium and the SCG have some of the best bar facilities outside of the stadium. Fox Studios just around the corner and the Captain Cook Hotel just up the road. Perfect for before or after the footy. Then there’s the Bat and Ball just up on the next block, where the atmosphere of Test match cricket begins to sprawl out into the rest of Sydney.

Very true, even Steve Waugh had his head on the chopping block at the end of 2002. He showed his class on his “Perfect Day.” There aren’t many players in the current squad you could see making such a gutsy performance. Siddle perhaps?

Australia must win at The Oval (with an eye on Brisbane)

Not sure we should be putting all of our eggs in one basket (but it is a pretty good basket!). Certainly need some captains knocks to inspire some performances from the rest of the top order. It’s much easier to score when you know there’s a big total coming from the other end, especially from someone of Clarke’s caliber.

Have to say it’s Haddins tenacity with the bat that sets him apart from the other keepers on the short list. Just seems much more determined and level-headed in the tough situations than Wade did. Much more reliable and experienced enough to warrant VC status. With a few less years on him you’d have to have him down to replace Clarke as captain but I’m sure they’ll be looking for someone who can take the helm for longer than Haddin will last.

What is Brad Haddin's future as Australia's vice captain?
