The 2013 Giro d'Italia makes Le Tour second-best
Maybe the issue is that we build the tour up so much as fans and in the media that it’s hard for it to live up? I mean either way, having another 3 week race to watch in just over a month is certainly not a bad thing! Bring on the Dauphine in the meantime!

Yeah I think you and doozel have both raised a good point. I sit the fence on this. I believe it’s the parcours that creates the drama first and foremost. If anything if there were no time bonuses riders may be forced to attack more in these small finishes. Perhaps we would have seen Cadel lay it on the line moreso on some of these banana peel stages. As it was it seemed like he knew his best chance was to conserve at every chance and if he was able to rack up more bonuses he could have snatched the lead at some stage

We’ll just have to watch the Tour while we wait

Yep,there will always be dull stages in a grand tour… but the giro always seems to have less than the tour. Keeps it interesting!
Jono's Giro: insider's guide to stage seven
Haha no shit! That’s hilarious.
When I had a sinus infection last year I was pumping up on Fess a good 20 times a day. Great stuff.

Well, just building the excitment ya know! 😉

Arr, having been pointed in the right direction it’s yet another decongestant:
Another technique some riders use is a bit of FESS
decongestant spray that is just saline solution.
Otherwise you run into the issue of certain nasal inhalers being on the banned list or requiring a TUE etc.

Forgot to add, one of the best aspects of the events was that ASADA were there in force doing a lot of testing. Great to see.
The Oceania Championships: does anyone even care?
Haha, no issue with it being in Canberra, good accomodation close to good roads for racing. In terms of making the racing attractive to fans the progression should be focussed in a similar fashion to the NRS whereby the coverage provided by SBS is what most fans will watch, as opposed to travelling to the race IMHO
The Oceania Championships: does anyone even care?
Well in regards to the Oceania league, you would bother because there are so few events you can ‘win’ the overall ranking by just winning the CC.
Kinda helps make my point though..
The Oceania Championships: does anyone even care?
You’re obviously a fishing devotee. But sorry, no catches today.
The Oceania Championships: does anyone even care?
PR wise I am pretty certain it is. In reality though, nothing is ever set in concrete is it?
Maybe his (Wiggins) secret plan is to come out and smash them in the Dauphine and try to reclaim leadership..
Who knows, would love to be a fly on the wall….
Sky-high ambitions for Paris-Nice victor Richie Porte
Also, the tour of bright is a grand tour. Lord knows its easier to get a start in France…
Sky-high ambitions for Paris-Nice victor Richie Porte
He might get to step at the Vuelta though, if Wiggins is fried after the Giro and similarly Froome after the Tour. There’s nothing to say Richie won’t be fried also but you never know.

Form tends to fluctuate not that much once you get into the guts of a season. If you are afforded the luxury to cut back at times then build up and others that’s great but it doesn’t really happen like that very often.
That’s why it’s funny to read about people reading Joe Friels training bible and building up and peaking for one or two big races. That has a lot of merit but I don’t think it’s a reality for many pro cyclists.
I think a lot of peaking for bigger races comes for riders being more mentally focused and prepared to take or not take bigger risks and push themselves harder at races that they have being targeting. So even if their physiology is not inherently different the mental side of being given a leadership role can give riders the edge I believe
Being a professional cyclist: A life on call
In that vein, all of my favourite quotes come from The Wire, this one especially;
😉
Sport is life, so give up on perfection
I guess the dilemna is that so many people enjoy the escapism provided by that belief…
It really is a never ending argument/debate though.
Sport is life, so give up on perfection
Not good ol proper gonna rip your head of insane.
But in his ability to endure and suffer.
As in, ‘that guy, he just won the giro and the tour, he’s insane!’
If that makes any sense at all…
Cycling: Motivating the madness
I got up at 5am yesterday for the first time in a while, I’ll just say, I don’t want to do it *every* day, but sometimes it’s pretty envigorating. I have a lot of respect for the people who train at that hour day in, day out.
Cycling: Motivating the madness
You have nailed it. Everyone is arguing from different standpoints. I like your standpoint.
Lance Armstrong is a victim of society
Track cycling already has a 20/20 style approach to things;
6 Days!
Beer
Music
Lot’s of Action
Recreate that, and we’ll get some crowds
Why is track cycling the ugly, more boring step-sister?
