In two weeks on the High Veldt, Robbie Deans and his young Wallabies have shown their plan for the future of Australian rugby. Be…
With one round remaining in the Shute Shield, Sydney’s premier club rugby competition, it is a good time to look at the teams who…
The series sees to strong batting lineups face two mediocre bowling attacks. I feel that draws seem highly likely.
Harbahjan is the difference between the two sides, although there are reports that he may not play due to injury. Seemingly a good thing for Australia but with Graham Swann packing his bags for the Ashes Australia’s batsmen could do with the offspin practice.
I think this series will come down to one batting collapse, and a neutral observer would have to say that Australia is the more likely side to faulter.
Hilfenhaus has done nothing wrong since returning from injury and I’m expecting him to have a strong series.
The result of this series shouldn’t be the major concern, the Ashes is only a couple of months away. Australia needs Ponting and North to find form and Mitchell Johnson needs to work out what’s going on
Can Australia win the Test series in India?
The Test Match final suggestion is a little absurd. Firstly Tests are about series and should never be decided by only one match. Here however are the suggestions I have heard;
A 6-10 day (even potentially unlimited) match: I think this suggestion verges on the insane. How could a team adjust to even just one extra day, par scores would be unknown. Would one even declare at 550 in a 6 day game?
Imagine a 10 day game? Teams would bat and bat and bat for as long as humanly possible.
I am not a fan of the Shield’s final method in rewarding the premiership to the team with the highest points despite a draw. It encourages the 1st placed team to bat out a draw which is not good to watch. This match should be scrapped all together with the winner decided on points, EPL style.
What is wrong with a 2 Test series and a 1-1 or 0-0 draw results in drawn championship?

I’m excited to see what Bernie can do with the young and exciting Brumbies backline when he sinks his teeth into coaching down in Canberra.
With Quade Cooper seemingly going to leave rugby at some stage I see Brumbies 20 year old fly half Matt Toomua growing into a brilliant, international standard 10. With Bernie and Giteau guiding him he could be better than both of them!
A conversation with Stephen Larkham
During the first Tri Nations game of the year Bakkies Botha, a notoriously dirty player, was red carded for purposly kneeing Richie McCaw early in the match. At the time the game was in the balance. Once the card was given it was all over and the ABs ran away with it.
Under today’s laws Bakkies was rightfully dismissed with the game. However I remember thinking that it’s the fans who are being punished, those watching on tv and those who have paid top dollar to see the match. I do not want to understate the importance of punishing a dispicable action like Bakkies’ but I believe the punishment should be targeted more to the player and less to the fans. Rather than a red card (which ruined the game) and an 8 week ban I think Bakkies should have been given or yellow (or a red with a substitute as you have been discussing) and a much, much more serious suspension. Let’s say he was banned for the entire year, misses the entire Tri Nations and the end of year tour, let alone thousands of dollars in match payments he would definietly think twice about committing the actions again.
An alternative to rugby union's send-off rule
Louisa, based on player reputation you are likely to be right. However this has been the most competitive and unpredictable seasons in recent history.
I believe Easts have an excellent chance of beating Uni. On the day of last week’s game fly half Matt Toomua was ruled out and the backline was unable to click. And the fact is no one wins in the wet at University Oval.
On neutral ground, with Toomua, Matt Hodgson and Pat Dellet (a name to watch who has been one of the competitions best players and recently signed with the Rebels) returning I think this is shaping up to be the game of the year. Although Woodies fans will argue I feel the premiership may well be decided in a little over a week.
Who will win 2010's Shute Shield?
Such a tragedy that cricket is in this mess.
I remember going to all 4 days of that Test and despite enjoying the victory I did feel slightly uneasy and suspicious. If the game was rigged I will feel cheated out of my money and time.
If the spot-fixing allegations are true I do feel for Aamer, he seems like a good, young kid with incredible talent and I have the feeling he has been swung by Asif, a proven drug cheat, and it seems a match-fixer as well.
Was the Sydney Test rigged?
If you saw her play you wouldn’t say that.
