Hahaha, a good Nate Myles being punched gag is always a welcome pick-me-up after an Origin loss

The Liebke Ratings: State of Origin 1

Agree that they are a long way from Wests at the moment, however the direction isn’t exactly motivating. Before the games against the Tigers and Eels, who have troubles of their own, the Knights were on a 4 game losing run of 179 points to 10. This NRL and Newcastle need the Knights to be successful and since they last won the Premiership in 2001 they have made the finals five times in 15 seasons and in the mean time have moved heaven and earth to get Tinkler and Wayne Bennett on board who arguably did far more damage than good for the club.

Its been a year since both have been banished, and I know these things take time, but for the fans, I’d like to think you would have wanted to see more so far.

Bad to worse for the Newcastle Knights

Great article. I shan’t be signing up with Optus as my plan with Telstra is far too good! I am banking on the fact that this will be a rather large financial and PR disaster for the telco and the rights will be back with Fox within a year. Worst Rights Buy Ever.

Optus' EPL plans sound like a good deal for Foxtel

Ah, I love the remarks from the Bunnies fans!

I’m well aware no team has won the comp from outside the four, but there will be a team to do it one day, why not this year? In 2009 the Eels made the GF from 8th and then in 2010 the Roosters made in from 6th, The Warriors made it from 6th in 2011 as well as the Bulldogs from 6th in 2014. It seems to be getting closer doesn’t it?

In terms of the recruitment, I can understand your cynicism, however, the fact of the matter is that IF we were to sign SBW it would be for one year I would think, maybe two max. Hayne would be on relatively similar money to RTS, and with both players adding to key positions and able to help in the youth development of not only good players but good young men, I cant see it as an uneducated decision. But hey, each to their own right?

Why the Roosters will make the finals and can still win it all

Ok, 3 Hats, I think you may have got lost in reading the article.

I had originally made the point that the finals were a Top 5 in the previous era, however it seems to have been edited out.

Any person worth their salt reading a Rugby League article would already know this, so I guess that is why it was left out.

Thank you for your feedback though!

Why the Roosters will make the finals and can still win it all

G’Day Benedict,

Thanks for your feedback. It’s all opinion based, but I think with a fresher squad towards the end of the year that with a bit of momentum the side might be able to do what others think is impossible right now. I’m not hiding from the fact that it’s very unlikely, but if any side were to do it, I think the Roosters can.

Cheers!

You’ve also got to remember that in Grass Roots/Junior Football the players only play to win their Grand Final, not one Junior player in Australia ever grows up wanting to win the ‘Minor Premiership’… Whats that?!

A-League finals are good for business, but not in their current format

Completely agree, we need Semi-Finals, at this stage if not forever for the concept to be adopted by the ‘swinging’ fans. Top 4 is the way forward, you can still have your 4 week finals system to match other codes with a two leg first week and then Prelim and then Grand Final. If it were this year for instance;

Wk1/2
Victory V Sydney FC —> Victory
Adelaide V Phoenix —-> Adelaide

Wk3
Sydney V Adelaide —–> Sydney

GF
Victory V Sydney

You’d get the best GF without the possibility of a team like City or Brisbane making the GF – or god forbid ‘Winning’ the thing – when they haven’t won more games than lost throughout the home/away season.

Big fan of Terravista, not sure about first up though. Do you believe poor trial form really affects class horses though?

Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup: Group 1 preview and tips

A fantastic player, a real danger when batting and seemingly capable of breaking partnerships and taking wickets at will. Unfortunately, all of us can only remember a handful of times when this has actually been the case. If potential equalled results, he’d be better than Kallis, unfortunately for Watto, that ain’t the case.

At least he’s got Lee Furlong to go home to.

There's something about Shane

Hi Bobbo7,

Last I checked, Daily Telegraph only had one a two page spread, compared to the NRL (who are yet to play an actual game) who had the back 8 pages. Haven’t picked up The Australian or SMH in a week or so, but last time I did, I needed to be Sherlock Holmes to find an article on it.

I agree there is coverage, just nothing like if we had the FIFA WC, and if we want to grow the game and promote it, we need this vital exposure!

Where's all the cricket coverage?

Thanks Vas,

Yeah I understand that it’s all to do with broadcast rights, I guess I’m just annoyed that free-to-air don’t make more of an effort to capture at least the big games. It wouldn’t be that hard to sell Advertising within the WC at a premium price one would think, therefore offsetting the cost of getting the rights to the game.

I think that like your comment with the games being played on a Saturday, both CA and ICC know that Australia will continue to play grade and club games on a Saturday, World Cup or not, therefore, games being played on a Sunday would also have the advantage of crowds being able to plan a year in advance to make the matches…

All in all, thanks for your feedback!

Where's all the cricket coverage?

Love it Liebs! To be fair, that lineup would beat most teams ranked below 4 in the ICC standings.
