Nice one Midfielder.

I was a midfielder too, a very attacking no 8.

Mate, very few football clubs in the world actually make a profit from their own football operations. So profits alone don’t tell you if a club is going to survive.

The world’s biggest club, ManU lost over 300 million pounds on its football operations last season and has nearly a billion pounds in debt. And that’s the most popular club in the world.

Dare I say it – most NRL and AFL clubs make a loss on their football operations – they get big handouts to make it look like they make money, but in reality they don’t.

Dalmege sunk $8 million over 3 years into Manly – this year’s premiers and that money is gooooone forever.

Revenue, football, and crowds: a spreadsheet

It was a great Grand Final day.

Here’s the highlights:

Sydney Olympic crowned Champions of the NSW Premier League

Still a pretty strong squad and with Emo and Harry out gives some more players the chance to shine in the first team and get more experience for the tough qualifiers ahead in round 3.

Brett and Harry were left out for the same reasons that McKay, Vidosic, Rukya, Oar and Leckie were left out – lack of first team match fitness.

Verbeek would have selected Emo and Harry just to show the FFA who was boss and then sat them both on the bench for the whole game.

Socceroos squad: Emerton, Kewell left out

JAJI,
another legacy of Verbeek was for young players to think that even if they trained with a Euro reserve team they were better off than playing in the A-League.

Osieck doesn’t agree and he picks players on form and match fitness.

Players like Leckie, Rukya and Oar have probably lessened their chances of making the 2014 WC squad by leaving the A-League.

Socceroos squad: Emerton, Kewell left out

Disappointing result, very unlikely we will qualify for the Olympics now.

The results of the U17, U20, Womens and Olyroos games makes me question the value and direction of Australia’s youth football development program and the people running it.

Sure its an A-League 11, but all these guys have gone through the FFA’s youth development process and can’t compete on the world stage.

We are falling behind other countries and doesn’t look good for the next 10 years of international football competition.

Rusty Olyroos fortunate to draw against impressive UAE

The negative football fans want to focus on Harry’s so called injury problems.

Harry played over 40 club games last season in Turkey and played for the Socceroos, including every minute of the Asian Cup – without injury.

Harry has never been fitter and I don’t think Harry will have any problems survivng a 27 game A-League season with only one midweek game.

Harry's A-League adventure

A lot of new players in the A-League this season and most of them are entertainers and goal scorers so looking forward to it.

Melbourne have done well even without recruiting Kool, they have the depth to cover for him.

Adelaide have recruited well too and expect AU and MV to be in the top 3 with Mariners.

Brisbane will be in the top 6 but won’t win it again.

Great attacking line-up could usher in season of Victory

Dugald,
you forgot to mention that admission was free and they gave away tickets at every shop in town.
Keeping the men away from games is not sustainable as clubs can’t function on zero gate receipts.

99% of male supporters are passionate and well behaved and would be unfairly punished by the very small badly behaved minority.

The best solution would be to get the club to do its job, identify the bad apples and ban them from attending games.

Nothing stopping women and children attending games.

Turks roll out the terrace pig's worst nightmare

No – nothing new – it was like a re-run of old Jesse Fink blogs.

And Mercedes got her chance to bag out at the FFA for sacking her. She must have been on for 30 minutes or more – got a real good chance to give her side of the story. Nothing positive to say at all.

They were so desperate for content they even went on about NQ fury being axed, which they claimed was because we lost the bid.

The high cost of registrations, again because we lost the WC bid.

And Perth Glory losing money, which was the fault of the FFA and the failed WC bid.

Look, the FFA make mistakes, but so do other codes and other teams lose money too.

Australia will always be a backward football nation with the sort of treatment it gets from the media.

AFL and NRL are safe no matter what they get up to.

Four Corners investigates Australia's doomed World Cup bid

Is that right?

Why the secrecy?
Why no investigation?

Four Corners investigates Australia's doomed World Cup bid

And what’s all this going to achieve for something that is dead and buried and nothing we can do about it now.

The 4 Corners program will be another waste of taxpayers money.

Four Corners investigates Australia's doomed World Cup bid

Do you live in Sydney Mke?

I’d agree that the ABC in Sydney don’t give a lot of attention to soccer, but seem to be giving more air time to AFL, even for items that have nothing to do with NSW.

Four Corners investigates Australia's doomed World Cup bid

From the article:
“The new synthetic pitch will help cater for the growing community demand for soccer in the area, providing an alternative training facility for local soccer clubs and other sports in the Yarra Valley”

The ground is available for other sports.

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

http://www.jamesmerlino.com.au/plugins/p2_news/printarticle.php?p2_articleid=9

The Victorian government is forced to build synthetic football pitches because of the overuse of grass football pitches, because of the enormous demand for football pitches in Melbourne and the AFL’s reluctance to give up any of its grounds for football.

“It’s not just the local clubs that are set to benefit – Monbulk Primary School, community groups and visitors to this beautiful part of the Dandenongs can also play on the durable, low maintenance, all-weather pitch, for years to come.”

Where’s the sign saying “Soccer only”?

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

Agree Titus,
AFL is still considered a Victorian game in Sydney.

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

Absolutely right Dingo.

AFL people are not welcome in western Sydney, because of the way the AFL management behave – not because of any sport.

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

The AFL didn’t pay for it – they paid less than half and the ratepayers paid for the rest – ratepayers who coudn’t give a rats about AFL.

Can’t you see a pattern developing here.

AFL isn’t a sport its a business trying to run everyone else out of town by taking advantage of people who are desperate for money.

People like hunt, folau and the poor councils in Sydney’s west.

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

Dingo,
this is a local council ground not a private golf course, so it is more than half payed for by the local rate payers.

Less than 1% of all rateplayers have any interest in AFL, so why should the ground, funded by ratepayers be exclusively for the use of AFL?

Seems to me that the AFL people are the ones who are narrow minded, not the other way around.

Has sporting apartheid arrived in Sydney?

More like 400M for GWS titus and a lot of it comes from NSW taxpayers.

Plus the 500M they spent [or wasted] on trying to establish AFL in Sydney for the last 20 years already.

And what has it got them – AFL is going backwards and less popular in Sydney than it was back in 1998.

How will Kewell signing affect rest of A-League?

Is Fink and Foster and the other SBS doomsayers going to apologise to Ben Buckley and the FFA for turning down Fox’s offer of 30M a year for the A-League rights for another 6 years.

With Kewell on board and all the other goodies coming including all the Asian tournaments the FFA should get a lot more.

Well done Buckley and the FFA for showing some backbone lately!

Football's phase four is upon us

Harry has already had an impact on the A-League.

16K watched last weekend’s pre-season friendly game between Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix – amazing!

Unfortunately for the home crowd Roar won 5-1.

How will Kewell signing affect rest of A-League?

Ha,
you probably don’t even live in Sydney Plonker, but nice try.

Harry Kewell the icing on the A-League’s cake

Harry will get a standing ovation from the Cove when he comes back to his home town.

The away Victory fans will get the finger!

Harry Kewell the icing on the A-League’s cake

Collingwood and the AFL are trying to out do the other teams and other sports, especially in crowd violence:
http://www.theage.com.au/national/brumby-calls-talks-on-crowd-violence-20090406-9uv3.html

Maybe we’ll get some balanced reporting on the crowd violence issue once the AFL accept that it isn’t just a soccer problem.

Foul behaviour is all go in the crowd inferno

Just because people opposed the deal doesn’t mean they didn’t want Harry to play in the A-League. It was about the details of the deal and the way it was negotiated and dragged on.

People will soon forget all that and just look forward to the footy and the new A-League season.

All genuine A-League fans are thrilled Harry is coming here in a couple of weeks to train and to play in the A-League.
