Adelaide’s history of striker problems

February 3 2009

While United’s striker issues this season have been telling, it is hardly a new occurrence at Hindmarsh Stadium.

  • Off the topic, but we are definitely producing players. There will be a few that graduate from the youth league this year. One guy who really impressed me was Luke Brattan of the Roar. He killed us in a 4-4 draw down here at Hindmarsh earlier this year. He has a very good right foot, and I think he has signed with the Roar’s senior team, so he is another one to watch.

Great win for Adelaide. The Roarers who say van Dijk and Flores were what was missing are correct. We lacked a lot of movement in the final third and they are giving us plenty of that, and both are able to create opportunites which our other forwards and midfielders couldn’t. If the rumours are true and SvD is about to sign a three-year deal with us, then I will jump for joy as we have finally signed a striker capable of scoring regularly.

  • Had a quick look on wiki, I believe it has only happened once: 1986 – Hawthorn beat Carlton in both finals…

  • I have to agree with Redb and LK here. While Tommix mounts a solid case against Hall in this article, I think the Bulldogs have made the right move by signing Barry. Yes, he is a risk, but a calculated risk rather than a desperate one IMO. I’m sure the Bulldogs management would have nutted out the situation with bringing a player like Barry Hall to the club.

He obviously has a lot to offer in that he is a true power forward, which they lacked. The negatives are there and they are obvious, but if the Bullies’ managment feel that they can help Barry to keep out of trouble then why not sign him?

It is difficult to change a man’s nature overnight, but fortunately the Bulldogs have had plenty of time to bring Barry into the club and address any concerns they may have with him.

IMO it’s as much the club’s responsibility as it is the players’ responsibility to ensure that they behave themselves on and off the field.

If the Bulldogs are confident enough that they have what it takes to help keep Barry’s temper under control, then this is definitely the right move. Early days yet, but so far I have seen nothing to suggest that this won’t work out for the ‘Dogs and for Barry.
