Don’t think you can question his commitment quite yet, without the situation presenting itself. If his form for the Rebels is any indication though, it won’t be lacking.

I think Woodward’s mindset is that he potentially felt neglected by NZ, as the 5 sides there, did not rate him. We took a punt on him and it has paid off for both parties. One of the end goals of Super Rugby sides is to produce players eligible for Australia.

Agree, that he’ll be up against it. For those citing Folau, who knows what he’ll do post the World Cup (or 2015), when Woodward is eligible for Australia.

Kiwi Rebel Woodward eyeing Wallabies

While it’s nice the club are looking at expanding markets, Singapore, South Australia, Tasmania and now Sri Lanka. 4 seasons in and we’ve yet to see a local player promoted, even to the EPS.

We were previously just a higher level Melbourne based arm of Sydney Uni, now it seems we are New Zealand’s 6th franchise.

First Sri Lankan Super Rugby player could be a Rebel

All depends on where JOC ends up. Placing him at fullback was mentioned a few times last year.

I believe Woodward has played every outside back position, we could see him on the wing, instead of Sitauti. Otherwise he’ll surely be the reserve outside back.

Hegarty is part of the EPS also, we have a 6 player EPS this season.

Beale at 10 every day of the week, we play our best with him there.

Jury will be out for Saffy, considering his neck injury last year. Lets hope he can get back to his best, a tackling machine ala. of 2011.

Continue to watch Vuna, each season he begins to become that X-Factor and learns the nuances of the game.

As long as we beat the Tahs in Sydney, and win overseas, I’ll be happy to play it by ear.

Rugby is the fastest growing sport in Brazil.

They only recently opened up a high performance unit near Rio.

Argentinian rugby puts pressure on football

Generally not the case down in Melbourne. Most people will support anywhere from 2-4 codes.

Personally I support 3.

Argentinian rugby puts pressure on football

It’s to do with the advertising dollar and viewer retention after the League final, in NSW/QLD markets.

Obviously else where, they couldn’t give a toss.

Nine drops the rugby ball again

I also hope that they’ll be bringing awareness to the International Cup. It might go a long way if the locals knew they had an International representative team, with the all too familiar black kit, complete with pre-game haka.

It would probably crush them that they couldn’t beat Australia, maybe it would provide an outrageous long-term goal?

NZ just step one for expansion-keen AFL

I think they’ll get mixed results, this should of happened some time ago though.

In terms of interest, I had plenty of conversations about the game itself, when I was over there during the World Cup.

If they had their own team to which they were parochial (similar to the Phoenix), that would go a long way to helping them support the game. It obviously won’t happen, as that is a massive punt by the AFL. Perhaps they can look at private investment/owernship? A pipe dream, none the less.

NZ just step one for expansion-keen AFL

I’ve heard the term “Rules Football” used, as Rugby obviously has Laws.

Quote from David Gyngell which highlights the hypocrisy at Nine “we are broadcasters, not narrowcasters”.

It seems every season, the public in Australia have to beg the FTA rights holder for national coverage.

Channel Nine's sporting coverage hurting national sport

This would bring a smile to the face of supporters in QLD, ACT, VIC & WA this morning.

RUMOUR: Deans to leave Wallabies to coach Waratahs

Why the Rebels board?

Foley upbeat as new Force coach

The conference system is great.

From a supporter perspective: Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to travel to Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney & Perth for the corresponding away games. This game already lacks a sense of tribalism and culture, don’t take this away.

From a player’s perspective: It’s much easier for them in terms of distance traveled, time away etc.

Super Rugby conference system lacks credibility

The UAR could change their selection policy for example, preference to those who play domestically etc. Nothing beats playing at home.

French T14 rugby still gets away with breaching IRB regulations

Very true, hence why Pichot has been campaigning for their own Super Rugby team. Whether this is entirely feasible or not, remains to be seen. Especially with the question of player welfare.

And the Cake Tin is any different? The MCG has a soul and an aura about it.

Afternoon rugby Tests a must

Nor will the ARU, despite fans voting with their feet.

Afternoon rugby Tests a must

Unfortunately that will never happen.

30k members at a 20k stadium, which isn’t an all-seater. Mind you I love a terrace, it’s how I enjoy most sports (football & rugby in particular). If they introduced concrete & some structure to the hill, it would be a hit. Look at the Shed at Perth Oval.

Afternoon rugby Tests a must

On the back of this game, I think the test against France in 2014, here in Melbourne, should be played as a Sunday afternoon game at AAMI Park.

Afternoon rugby Tests a must

The last test against England was only 44k at ANZ. Perfect for the SFS.

I believe a similar tactic should be adopted in Melbourne.

Boks, NZ, England at Etihad (cringe). Everyone else at AAMI Park.

Afternoon rugby Tests a must

In the context of Rugby, been to a Rebels game?

In the context of Football/Soccer, plenty of active supporter at A League/State league games, ultras inspired support (eg. full game).

It’s just a matter of courage or put into better terms, growing a pair.

Wallabies fans: bring back Waltzing Matilda

@Johnno Wow, talk about over analyzing.

Familiar with The Fields of Athenry?

Wallabies fans: bring back Waltzing Matilda

It’s purely marketing, much like the Western… Force.

It’s a provincial competition, team still represents Victoria.

The Queensland sporting culture is hard to beat

When Jones comes back, will be interesting to see where he slots in, considering Neville’s form. Based on the Saders game, it would be the bench.
