Paul Beshara said on RSN the other day that he would be very surprised if Happy Trails didn’t win the Cox Plate. And that was before Atlantic Jewel came out. Obviously a lot of trainers don’t mind a bit of hyperbole when talking about their own horses, but I couldn’t believe his level of confidence.

I like It’s A Dundeel, but will definitely have something on Happy Trails at the odds.

2013 Cox Plate: full preview and tips

8-7 Rafa in the 5th. You get the feeling this will become one of the matches that defines their rivalry. Both have been seemingly gone and both have fought back so strongly.

Add to that some of the moments in the match. Nole’s time violation and overbalance at the net. Rafa’s tweener and some trademark ridiculous forehands on big points.

Not much better to do at 1.51am in Australia!

Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic: 2013 French Open semi-final live scores

As we currently stand, all four grand slams are held by one of the ‘Big 4’, so I’m not sure it is done with yet.

It would be reasonable to expect that each player in the group would consistently reach the semi-finals of the grand slams, though the odd exit before then is understandable. The fact that Federer has missed the semis in two of the last three slams suggests he is indeed in most danger of dropping out of the group. In the past year 12-and-a-half months though, Murray (French Open 2012) and Nadal (Wimbledon 2012) have also played tournaments where they have missed the semis.

So while I don’t think Federer is out of the 4 yet, a pre-semi final exit at Wimbledon would see him holding no grand-slams, with an Australian Open semi-final his best result in four slams. If this were the case I think his standing in the group would be in question then.

With Roger Federer's loss, have we seen the end of the Big Four?

The Wawrinka-Gasquet match should be a classic. There’s not many matches I enjoy watching more than two class players with exquisite one-handed backhands. Gasquet will be tough to beat in Paris but I’m liking Stan given his superb form leading up to RG.

Only listened on radio – did the fall have any impact on Bel Sprinter?

Cooper will surely be the 10. His form has been pretty good of late and his combination with Genia is obviously a bonus. Nothing wrong with Lealiifano at 12 either. Has played well there for ACT and can kick goals as well.

JOC seems to play much better for the Wallabies than in Super Rugby – much the opposite of Quade. Though I think he is well placed as a utility off the bench if Folau/Mogg take the 14/15 positions.

Lions Tour: Wallabies flyhalf problem

Great article. Don’t think you will get too many differing opinions here – at least on the make up of the top six anyway. For the record, I would have the same order. The Gerrans/O’Grady ranking is the only one that is really challenging I think.

I agree that Porte will make his way onto this list over the next few years though. Looking forward to a great Giro!

Our top six road racers since 1980

Good to see a lot of general agreement! Not usually the case with a Wallabies team.I would like to see Lealiifano at 12 and Mogg at 15 and JOC on the bench. I just think Mogg looks electric Everytime he has the ball and also has a solid boot.

I also agree that Moore is probably a more solid hooker given his ability to throw. Dissapoining because TPN is such a good runner when he gets the chance.

A Wallabies squad to face Gatland's 37 British and Irish Lions

Credit to Craig Joubert too who put his whistle away for most of the match. Gave both teams (especially the Blues) the confidence to run the ball out of their own 22. Definitely one of the most free flowing one-try matches you would ever see.

Quade struts his stuff as the Reds win - just!

I’m a big fan of Glass Harmonium as well. Beat home King Mufhasa in the Futurity, who got very close to Pierro in the George Ryder. He’s a battle-hardened 7yo carrying the same weight as a 3yo (who is admittedly a star) – don’t mind the 40-1 quote at all.

Dear Demi looks good in the Oaks too. Prepared to forget her last run after she missed the start and was left with a mountain to climb. Has the turn of foot if they sit and sprint (has won a G2 at 1400) and will run a strong 2400m if its a bit more of a staying test.

Doncaster Mile and Australian Oaks Group 1 preview

Had horrible flashbacks to Larry Mize in 87 when Cabrera hit that chip on 18 in the playoff.
Scott thoroughly deserved that. Winning it in the manner he did makes it even more memorable.
And loved the “Queenslander!” call before the first playoff hole.

US Masters 2013: Adam Scott ends the Augusta hoodoo

Would love to see Scott win as well. Hopefully he will be better for the British Open experience (McIlroy choked on Sunday at Augusta in 2011 and then streaked away with the US Open at Congressional a few months later – Scott might be able to do something similar). Final round 62 from Leishman like at the Travelers last year wouldn’t go astray (though Augusta is obviously a vastly different beast to TPC River Highlands) and Day’s knack of contending at big events will hopefully put him in good stead. In any case it will be an entertaining (and hopefully memorable) morning.

Is the Aussie drought at Augusta about to be broken?

Summed it up brilliantly. As you said, if a race where the $1.50 favourite wins can produce the spectacle, drama and uncertainty that we witnessed on Sunday night, it has to have something about it. Reliving the race almost makes me want to skip July and fast-forward to April, 2014.

One cycling fan’s love of the Hell of the North

Even with Boonen’s absence it was still a phenomenal race. Great to see two riders enter the velodrome together and fight it out in a sprint finish. Worth staying up for!
