Yes you did say that peterhen, but as someone else, you’ve blown your cover again.

Settle down Mr Football and stop being Missus Nuisance.

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

Nah, Heskey made him look good by attracting defenders away from him. He missed more than double the ones he scored.

Ange won’t play him and will probably go for Cahill and Troisi up front and bring on Jesus when we need a miracle – if his back is OK.

Taggart wants to be a World Cup pest

Looks to me like Daley has gone for tighter defense around the rucks, particularly for the first game at Suncorp. If we’re going to win the series, we have to stop Qld in game 1 and then try and wrap it up in Sydney.

They need to bottle up Smith, Slater, Thurston and Kronk around the rucks, particularly as the game goes on and the forwards will tire.

Its a gamble with a new halves pairing and Farah not fully fit. If Smith gets the room he needs, they will run all over us.

Daley is concentrating on his defensive formation and speed around the rucks to try and frustrate Qld into errors. But they are a champion team and its going to take a huge effort to beat them.

NO MISTAKES when we are in the Qld 20 metre zone. Stop throwing those try scoring opportunities away with DUMB MISTAKES and we might actually score more points than them.

NSW Blues team for 2014 State of Origin Game 1: Expert reaction

Well it doesn’t just have to be pessimism.
I’ve been playing, coaching, refereeing and following football all around the world since I started walking and I know quite a bit about it.

I’m just being realistic based on the abilities of the teams and their players.

If Lleyton Hewitt was playing Raf Nadal, I would be barracking Hewitt to the hilt and urging him on to victory, even though I’d admit that he had little chance of winning.

Is that pessimism?

As Gallop rightly says, optimistic, but realistic at the same time.

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

peterhen, peterhen, run, run, the sky is falling down!!!

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

Its true that the other 3 teams are evenly matched and they will fiercely battle it out just to get a draw against each other and that could play out in Australia’s favour, especially if they take us too lightly.

So some hope there, but still a huge task just to even get a draw ourselves against any one of the other 3 and maybe even a shock win, so lets keep hoping at least for an upset.

It sure is exciting though and that’s football and this is why you look forward to the FIFA World Cup every 4 years on the world’s biggest sporting stage. If you cause an upset, the whole world will know about it.

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

Ange has already signed up Rebecca Wilson as motivation coach.

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

Reasons to be cheerful Part 3 from Coach Ange:
“The ball is round and there are 11 players on each team”
“We aren’t afraid of anyone”
“If there is an opportunity there for us to create some headlines and shock the world, we’ll take it,
“I’m trying to put myself in the other coaches’ shoes
“The other three countries expect to get through, and for that to happen they have to beat us. So there is enormous pressure on them
“It’s part of the Australian sports culture, we want our teams to be attacking teams, … and our players like to play that way
“All of the pressure is on our rivals, they are under pressure to win and we’re not going to make it easy for them, …
“… for us to advance, hopefully we can surprise them
“Our plan is to get into Vitoria early June and pretty much stay there for the duration
“There wouldn’t be one of our players who wouldn’t be looking forward to this immensely
“We certainly wanted to play some of the big guns and we got all of them in our group which is fantastic. It will be a great experience for us all and a chance for us to create some history

Of course we are immensely proud of our footballers and wish them the very best for Brazil 2014.

Why I'm optimistic about the Socceroos' World Cup chances

Here’s highlights of the Portland v Seattle MLS derby

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

No. They are still recruiting and have recently signed Dino Djulbic and Hersi.

I think Smeltz wants to be closer to home, eh?
And Arnold suits his style of player better, the good old centre forward.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

I think Shinji Ono has helped establish WSW and boosted crowd numbers as well.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

You would say that, you work for the AFL Media Department.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Westfield is a separate business entity and has no connection with the FFA.

The AFL and NRL give away free memberships because they can’t get anyone to play in certain areas of Sydney.

The FFA only gets $12 per registration, the rest is charged by individual clubs, who charge whatever they think is appropriate.
I’ll keep repeating this to AFL Media Department employees till it finally sinks in.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

bp2 you’ve got no idea mate. go back to the AFL Media Department and do the crosswords.

The FFA Cup is costing the FFA zero, zilch. nothing, nada.
The sponsorship dollars are paying for the competition expenses, while the clubs and the FFA will share in the gate receipts, media money and merchansiding etc. profits.

The FFA does not set the junior registration costs. They only collect $12 per rego, so its not their fault. How many times do we have to repeat it to you Mister Football and others from the AFL Media Department.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Mister Football, as we’ve explained to you many times before, the football registration fees are not set by the FFA and they are not to blame if you think they are too high.

The FFA only gets $12 per registration fee. That’s all. The rest goes elsewhere.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Yep sounds like Mr Football and another couple of userids he’s dreamed up. bo2 bp2 ???

They get pretty bored around this time of the year at the AFL Media department because the AFL games become so boring, so they jump on the NRL and Football blogs and try and introduce some Demetriou inspired doom and gloom about the other codes.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Plus the FFA are paying all the traveling expenses.
The total prize money of over a million starts kicking in at Ro16 when the A-League teams join, so why not make it a priority.

It also exposes the A-League clubs to more football followers, who haven’t yet been to an A-League game.
It will have a flow on effect for those involved and any clubs or players who are asked to trial with an A-League club in time for the January transfer window.

Its also a great way to find very cheap talent.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Go the Northern Tigers.

The part-timers and giant killers have made it through to the final qualifying round of the FFA Cup in NSW from PL division 2.

Under the final qualifying rounds format they have earned 3 chances to get through – in the quarter finals of the Waratah Cup or another two playoff rounds, just need to win any one of the 3 qualifying games to face an A-League club in July.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Getting the same attention as the European Cups would be great, but at this stage is unknown.

The suburban crowds have been reasonable and the local paper has only just started to mention it, although its been running for a few months already.

We’ll have to wait and see how its taken up as we get to the Ro16.
The interest will probably heighten when the A-League clubs kick off in July after the WC in Brazil. And if we get a few “upsets” the local grounds could get quite packed.

It seems to have a good positive vibe now and no reports of crowd troubles either.

Its something new and looking forward to it taking off.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

The FFA Cup final is on Tuesday 16 December, so it will be over before the end of the year,

They’ve played hundreds of games already across the country and are near the final qualifying stages in each state.

The A-League teams join in late July and if they go all the way to the final just have to play a max of 4 games in 5 months and they play on a Tues or Weds night – not too much of a distraction you would have to agree.

FFA Cup must replicate the magic of Europe

Most of them do it to stay fit and also do aerobics and dancing.

Or maybe they just want to end up like Jennifer Hawkins, former Newcastle Knights cheerleader.

Should we cheer for women in league?

Predictable that Troisi doesn’t want to call himself a striker. He’s a midfielder who can score goals, which is exactly what AP is looking for.

AP has stacked his 30 man squad with 13 midfielders and his final 23 will probably have about half midfielders.
Everyone wants to be known as a midfielder these days.

Troisi feels he has Socceroos X-factor

If we have a salary cap based on income it would still send the poorer clubs broke.

Are you saying that if we had employed Ange as national coach 2 years ago, with his attitude to give the younger players a go, we would not have qualified. How do you know that?
Osieck was hired because he was Beckenbauer’s assistant when they won Italia 90 and he was famous for “developing young players”.
Its not all Verbeek and Osieck’s fault, the contract they signed with the FFA gave them a huge bonus if they qualified for the WC, so they played safe with older experienced players who ground out results.

The European Leagues like the EPL are “more resilient”, because they have been running for generations and has become a family, town, city tradition handed down from great grandfather to grandfather to father to son that is hard to break.
Compare that to the A-League, which is still wearing nappies.

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

I wouldn’t have bought Shane Smelz, he’s past it, injury prone and is one dimensional in terms of team structure and tactics.
I’m sure Arnie will make good use of him, when he’s fit and playing.

Will results, a big-name marquee or playing attractive, attacking football get the fans in?

The A-League needs to hold on to its best players

Yes impressive increase in attendances given the increased coverage on SBS, internet and streaming live.

The sustainability of the A-League is not dependent on attendances alone. The increased media deals revenues, increased share of profit to A-League clubs, sale of WSW and qualifying for our 3rd WC in a row and getting to host the Asian Cup has boosted the FFA’s coffers and returned the FFA and its A-League to a profit.

The finals series was the biggest ever and produced a record profit for the FFA.
